      Ive been trying to learn to sing - I can sing from g2 to f5 (all connected no falsetto) but it lacks power and volume when I try and add more volume my voice wants to crack and flip lol HELP ME! hehehe I practice about 30mins a day with sirens which really helps keep chest and head voice connected - cheers man!

      How do I tell whether my rasp is healthy or not when I sing?
      Also my rasp singing is sooo quiet. When I try to sing louder I would lose it How can I fix it??

      You got it man! This video was very much inspired by conversations I had with you and some other people about their vocal progress. Figured if multiple people were asking, a bunch more were probably wondering the same thing.

    I noticed that both you and Chester get more rasp with sonically same effort on the word “my” or something similar.. maybe has something to do with position, sounds nice, I’m also trying to achieve this

    Hey, Andrew! Does that "nasality" 4:59 have to do anything with nasal airflow - in other words if you pinch your nose during this would sound change?

    This sound you made "nay" that is supposed to help getting high notes is twang technique, I believe. once you reach a high note with it do you suggest to let go of twang, or do you rather stay on it? It makes sounds more bright.

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I think you're right about that. I've seen it come up from several singing teachers in the past. When you reach the high notes i'd suggest trying to make as many sounds as possible. The sound is really just an enabler to help you use head voice correctly, but when you're there you want to practice vowels and words that would come up in real music.

    • @PogromcaMleka
      @PogromcaMleka 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndrewSouthworth yeah that's exactly what I thought. Thanks for replying, I enjoy your videos man, especially on vocals. All the best from Poland! :)
      PS I wonder what you meant by saying something along the lines of "make sure you're not cracking reaching head voice or falsetto" it is of course possible to go to head voice from chest voice without cracking, but go to falsetto from head voice? I never managed to do that without breaking/cracking. Is it even possible? Some people said it's not, some say it is, Soo... Yeah here comes the confusion haha.

    How do you go from your head voice into the full one without pulling chest up? Do you change to chest but still try and make the sound come from the same spot as when you do it in head voice?

    @dreamsalamander 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    M a bit confused, when u demonstrated it smooth, it sounded like head voice. But when u added push and nasality, it really sounded more like chest voice. It wasn't chest voice?

    • @LightKurusan
      @LightKurusan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no it was pure head voice with a lot of twang. We always have a minmum of twang in singing that make the sound clear and good placement. We add more twang in belting ,falsetto or head voice to give power and resonance.

    • @dreamsalamander
      @dreamsalamander 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LightKurusan thank you....
      How does one activate twang, exactly?

    • @LightKurusan
      @LightKurusan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dreamsalamander if u want to add more twang try to increase the volume of a note without doing any extra effort just by increasing the resonance around ur face like u spead ur resonance.

    • @dreamsalamander
      @dreamsalamander 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LightKurusan increasing resonance around the face... Hmm... Sorry to ask again...how is this done?
      I've been training to get into vocals after a couple years of only creating instrumentals...
      I'm a baritone by nature.. There is a certain range, where my chest voice can no longer hit without yelling, but when I switch to head, it's a weak head, it's not even as loud as my falsetto. Once I go a few steps higher, I have a fairly strong head voice. It's those middle few notes that's my weakness.. .I've been trying to either strengthen my chest voice to reach it.. .a process I understand can take months.. .or try to figure out how to make those notes strong in head

    • @LightKurusan
      @LightKurusan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dreamsalamander twang doesnt make u go higher it just increase the volume and resonance. It will be hard to explain how to add more twang so look this video its explain well how to exercice th-cam.com/video/-e5ULS6EURU/w-d-xo.html
      Baritones have about 1-2 notes lower than tenors, they can also hit high notes. To simplify:
      there are 2 main mechanisms, chest and head voice. There are 2 main placements in each of these.
      iN chest : pure chest voice, and chesty mixed voice. Chesty mix is a placement on the palate that lighten a bit ur chest voice and highlight ur tone., it is not difficult to have because we use it in everyday life without being aware of it.
      In head voice : 1) pure head voice that: it is not falsetto because it is connected and if u go higher u need to push on ur diaphragm not with ur larynx unlike falsetto.
      2 ) heady mix: its what a lot of people call mixed voice and say that its a blend of the chest and head. In fact it is head voice that is the most heavy possible. U need to feel the resonance in ur head but a connection with ur throat. U can go from ur pure head voice and try to go low and connect with ur throat while keeping a head resonance.
      U need before expiriment these placements that allow u to hit high notes to have a diaphragm support and keep an open throat not to tighten ur throat (not the same as the larynx)
