    I am a 64-year-old male, I was 20 when I first heard this album. Married twice, One divorce. Then you find the girl with (Far Away Eyes) (Beast of Burden) (Shattered) (Miss You) she passed away after 30 years😢.

    My first Stones album. It has a special place in my heart. I was 13 when my uncle brought over a stack of promo albums from KZEW radio station that he worked at in Dallas. I put on ‘Some Girls’ and just thought, “What is this spooky, beautiful music that doesn’t follow any rules?” My uncle told me many years later about the show in Fort Worth that became “‘Some Girls’ Live In Texas ‘78”, how they got the band into the gig in a Lone Star Beer truck, sent him to find an ounce of cocaine, and how Keith Richards dumped the whole thing out on the table and did his best Scarface impression. You’re just getting into the heart of this perfect album.

    When they do this on stage they leave out the black girls line . The line is actually "I just dont have that much jam" . English girls are not "PISSY", they're "PRISSY". That means theyre overly concerned with how they look and behaving "properly" and get annoyed by people who arent socially refined, like they think they themselves are . They annoy the hell out of him so he leaves the (phone) receiver off the hook . This was before cell phones.

    Every song was getting airplay from this one. The Some Girls Tour and album were/are both absolute Classics! That whole record was a perfect single vibe, capturing the late 70’s. The stadium tour featured Van Halen opening for The Doobie Bros. followed by a slick set list from Mick, Keith and the full stage band. Jagger’s lyrics on this record were 🔥 Lovin it Biz 🤘😎

    I believe it was this song that they actually went back and changed the line about "black girls." I feel like I've written this before, but the Stones got some letter, very formal and well-written from a girl in a U.S. prep school complaining about it. How do I know this?The Stones created an amazing museum exhibition of all their stuff, costumes, concert set designs, hand-written lyrics for some of their hits. I saw it when it rolled through Tokyo. Great show, I spent 3 hours taking everything in. They actually included that very letter in the exhibit and paired it with recording of Mick talking about it and why they made the decision to officially change the lyrics. I like the fact that they publicly own up to their mistakes or changes in culture and are willing to grow.

    When released, Jesse Jackson threw a fit over the lyrics. In an SNL sketch, castmember Garret Morris gave the impression he was gonna criticize Jagger and the band only to then hilariously ask if he could share with him the phone numbers of these black women.
    This is one of those songs that is clearly done tongue in cheek. I believe the studio outtake is much longer, around 11 minutes, so this is a heavily edited version. Jagger just kept ad-libbing lyrics during the recording. The Zuma Beach line refers to Bob Dylan and his on-going divorce proceedings at the time. I think his ex-wife got the house in Zuma Beach in the end. The divorce wasn't heavily publicized, though, but Jagger probably hung out with Dylan in NYC at the time and found out about it.
    The next song is the most stereotypical punk-sounding song of the album.

    • @flyingburritobro68
      @flyingburritobro68 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The divorce thing was about himself. He was in the middle of lawsuits with Bianca Jagger who was represented by famed divorce attorney Marvin Mitchelson and they were trying to break the bank

    YES WE HAD THREE YRS OF BLISS
    WHICH THEN SADLY ENEDED
    BUT IN 1981 WHEN IT STARTED THIS ALBUM WAS PLAYED EVERY DAY

    Gotta know, the Beatles locked down the "nice guys" image in the 60s, the Stones made it their business to be the "not nice guys"... They were good at it. Thanks for that review.The lyrics are obviously written by a man you could call a true specialist,a real connaisseur.The bassist,Bill Wyman wrote two books,some twenty five years ago,two books of three hundred pages each .He said Charlie Watts never cheated his wife,Keith Richards is a one woman man ,always strumming a guitar or listening to music,but Brian Jones,Mick Jagger and himself had a few hundreds girls that he listed on his PC.
    Anyway,this album cover is special,with all those anonymous ladies.But first,the Stones made a cover with celebrities faces.One those celebrities,an actress ,discovering the cover project,made something legal against that cover before the Stones released this album and the Stones had to do a new cover.

    The lyrics of "Some Girls" shows better what I meant the other day when I wrote The Rolling Stones were never politically correct. At the very least I should shade that by saying their lyrics were often written to make grandma blush in some way or another. It all goes to the numerous reasons they added a song called "Respectable" to this album! (They weren't trying to be respectable per se.) The late seventies was still a time of "letting it all hang out", as it were, and the Stones always let it hang out in their music. Those guitar licks are sleazy in the best way. Jesse Jackson gave Mick Jagger some guff for these lyrics back in the day. Mick wrote them off as a joke, exaggeration for performance sake. I wonder if they ever play this one live anymore or if they skip it to skip the guff -- something that's easy to do when your catalog is so deep you've got ten other songs to take its place if you want!

    The line about Black girls to me and many sisters took that as a compliment. After dinner dancing and paying for every drink. The girls that rated you on what you did just rolled over and called it a night. The ones that kept it up were doing it because they liked you and never were rating for what you paid for , so the opposite from girls that cared only about money to please you.Guys don't ever want to admit they were out done in the sack . I guess it's the girls bragging right . One time some said she's a S word and I said "'So what are we then " Great tune and the mix on guitars are far tighter than Keith and Taylor. Ronnie to me saved me Stones . 😎

    I always knew it, Mick Jagger is a real woman understander ;-) ! You shouldn't take all the lyrics so seriously, many of them just happen to fit, although there can always be some experience behind it and M.J. (I think so) he has a lot of experiences. It doesn't matter, the song and the entire album are just great and totally underrated by the press in my opinion. It wasn't rated that well back then, but I've always liked it. But I also wear Stones glasses (meaning I love almost everything from the Stones). I'm already looking forward to a review of "Exile On Main Street" and your comments ;-)). @@flyingburritobro68 Black and Blue is a superb album. They lost the great MT but brought in Perkins and Mandel for some killer leads . Hand of Fate, Hot Stuff, Memory Motel, Fool To Cry , etc..definitely a new direction for the band but most true Stones fans looking back now realize how great B&B is …. And of course Some Girls was incredible Tattoo You ( yes, I know mostly older stuff reworked) and then post TTY the 80’s were a struggle but give VL and B2B a listen as they are excellent as well.I’m just grateful they are still touring after the loss of our beloved Charlie . But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion and the Stones never had the following of heavy metal bands like LZ or more popular acts . You either get them or don’t .

    • @bookhouseboy280
      @bookhouseboy280 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jbstonesfan Some Girls wouldn't be the focused album it is if they hadn't tried a bit of this and that on Black and Blue, one of their better albums. Crazy Mama (also on Sucking in the Seventies) is another standout track. VL was probably their best all around work since Tattoo You (some reworked material but great nonetheless) and that's saying something.
      Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but while LZ were big in the 70s, the Stones already were before and continued to be so decades after with crossover appeal and hit singles that LZ and especially metal (still a niche genre) just didn't have.

    Biz, I don't think you need to take each line literally. I think he was having fun with some lines and some trying to make it fit? I mean it's funny to see Reactors, especially black Reactors (my favorites for their take on R&R) but imagine trying to get literal for every line in today's music culture!?!?
