Anna feels like one of the few moral authorities in the house where Thomas isn’t gonna have a retort because Anna doesn’t lie about things like that. She’s like “buddy, I knew both of you back then, don’t try it”.
She is a very good actress, unfortunately she left Downton too soon. Im so thankfull they gave us a lot of drama with Ethel. But i miss Gwen the same as i do for Lady Sybil and Matthew.
I think the fact that her time at Downton was short was a good thing. The longer a character stays on a show, the more trauma and hardship the writers put them through to extend their arc on the show, to keep it dramatic. The short length of time Gwen had on Downton made it so they could give her a cleaner, happier, less messy arc.
The hallmark of great writing is how well the dialogues are written. It’s like drawing fingers, AI and novice artists always have the most trouble with interpersonal dialogues. Downton Abbey’s best dialogues were uttered by the late and legendary Maggie Smith.
“You had every opportunity.” Mary wasn’t even trying to hide her rudeness there. If Gwen doesn’t want to mention her personal history, then that’s her business, and her right. Leave her alone.
There's a scene just after this where Lord Grantham gives Barrow a ticking off for telling everything about Gwen's former job. I wish they'd included it.
This was from Season 6, Episode 4. This is after the Carson's wedding and Tom's return to Downton Abbey from a year or so away in America. Lady Rosamund is at Downton to meet with Mr. Harding and persuade Lady Edith to become a patron at Hilcroft. Gwen's visit highlighted the progression of the working class in the late 1920s. Women were gaining power and prestige in the working/business world.
I always wanted to like Barrow because he was the only queer character, but he was such a jerk most of the time. He did get more likable in later seasons, thankfully.
I think he was a jerk because he was extremely unhappy in his circumstance and was out to “get” everybody since he had trouble with his own life. I think he softened quite a bit after the first movie because he started accepting who he was.
Barrow’s unlikeable-ness is because he struggles with his own lot in life and isn’t happy. Kudos to the acting of that part. It is outstanding. Every time he has a kind moment, he turns around and does something obnoxious. And he does it with pure excellence. Robert James Collier is an awesome actor.
While I enjoyed and appreciated this storyline I wonder if they only did it as fan service after Rose Leslie gained a lot of fame as Ygritte in Game of Thrones. "You know nothing Lord Grantham" LOL
I wish I could live in those days. Just a little education could lift you up the social ladder. Today, you have a PhD and still have no way of earning a good salary.
I loved it when Anna says "When were you ever a friend to Gwen?"

When is third movie coming out? I miss this series so much!
Even years after her death, just the mention of Sybil’s name brightens the room, reminding everyone to be a bit kinder
Love how she remembered sybil
"Her kindness changed my life." 💜
This is a lovely nod to the early days of Downton! Memories of Sybil ❤
One of my favourite storylines.

She landed a pretty good role on Game of Thrones....she was a badass on that series.

In the end when you are six feet under or scattered somewhere one with elements... how people remember you is all that matters
😢 She was a lovely person
I will watch these clips again and again. Downton is my comfort series. Thank you.
She really made something out of her training, Gwen did well for herself.

Indeed it was rude but it wasn't Gwen's place to tell her background. She was there to support her husband.
Mary is rude and haughty.
Mary and Thomas kind of "save each other"...from looking worse than they already did.

"I started out as a Wildling Barbarian girl until I met a Lord Commander of the Night's Watch who became King in the North."
Love this show and this type of show. My favorite for sure!!!!!!!!
Gwen : "You know nothing Mr Barrow"
This actress is John Snows wife! Love her! They met on Game of Thrones!🥰
I miss this show❤
Lovely story and memories of their family. 😃👍
Well that blew up in Barrow's face.
I love watching this anecdote.
Delicious episode 😊
Sign of a good actor: You cannot stand his role! That’s Thomas!!😂
Rose Leslie was the only member of the Downton Abbey cast who actually did come from a noble family,
Oh, yes, from the Scottish clans! She's from the Clan Leslie, and maternally related to the Clan Fraser of Lovat as well.
Grazie per il traduttore 😊😊❤ Quando saranno in onda i nuovi episodi in Italia???❤❤❤
There aren't any new episodes. Downton Abbey ran for six series between 2010 to 2015. There have been 2 films and a third one is in production.
@vaw796 scusami...ho capito solo 2015...e due film....
Which episode was ?

It’s very common for Hollywood to make the gay person out to be the villain

imagine this kind of scene in the program housewives of LA (or any cities), there will be NO such grace and manner
👏🏻 🙂
Я бы хотела, соды меня тоже так вспоминали, как Сибил.
Gwen: Then I went an married Jon Snow.

🥱 British Aristocrats Drama!!🥱
Barrow true to type.
These women worked so hard back then in the kitchen.
Everything made by hand.
Unauffrable woman that told on mary.
And then lady Mary saves her maid Anna's baby.
😇🥰😍🤩😘
