Mrs. Hughes has a heart of gold and a backbone of steel. She is the caring mother of the staff but becomes a beast and force of nature, did you dare to cross her. ❤❤❤
She was tough on the outside and butter cream on the inside. Loved her interaction with Mr. Carson at the beach, ''...suppose a bomb goes off, suppose we're hit by a falling star...''. 🤣🥰
Mrs Hughes using her 'bad hand' to teach Carson a lesson about how much effort goes into cooking was so funny to watch. If a woman makes you a meal, don't compare it to others and say they're better than it, be grateful for the thought that they made it for you. Her and Carson have seen all the changes and have come out closer on the other side
The first time I saw this, in 2018, I really enjoyed it but when I saw it again with someone who hadn''t seen it, it was sheer comedy to me. There is not one secret in the entire house, the constant line "Oh there you are," how only the bad people smoke, the stoicism, how there's always someone watching and listening in full view or right around the corner listening, the use of phrases and vernacular that was unheard of in the early 20's like "thank you very much" "I'm just sayin'" "pregnant" and many others that I didn't document when seeing/hearing them. And all the help is so damned horney and the family is so happy to oblige. Few have any backbone. Watch this a couple times and see if you don't see what I'm talking about. Oh and so many cowards !!
The scene that starts at 1:04 ……. I inwardly chuckle every time I watch it. I looked up bread sauce**. It sounds like the dressing(USA) that would be prepared and served with the turkey at Thanksgiving dinner. **chunks of white bread and chopped up celery&onion, mixed together, and moistened with chicken or turkey broth. Dumped into a casserole dish, then baked until the top is slightly browned.
@5:17 "Be your own master and call your own ________." Does anyone have any idea what that last word was? I can't make it out. Its sounds like "Tree" to me.
They should have left him for Thomas to sort out and Mrs. Hughes, Anna, and Bates would have given him an alibi. Thomas could have given him a taste of his own medicine and he'd have done it for Anna.
0:11 This line stood up for a lot of people! In more than one way. This is very powerful! How many people needed a Mrs. Hughes in a situation like this. Her strength through this character was saying it to a monster. It is like she is standing up for all the survivors! Bless all of the people that were involved in this seen! Blessings!
Mrs Hughes is the best. The heart and soul of Downton. She must be up there as one of everybody’s most loved characters
Mrs Hughes was so lovely and kind. She was always there for people if they needed her
Mrs Hughes throws shade like no one else. Her wrath at Edna is a treat
"DON'T YOU DARE THANK ME!". Shes the best
Never, ever underestimate Mrs. Hughes, the keeper of the keys.

I agree she’s a wonderful wonderful lady
2:22-7:45 Mrs. Hughes relationship with Tom, especially after Sybill's death is so endearing 💜
@@Robert08010 Thanks for the catch. Autocorrect has never been my friend. 💜

I always thought of Mrs Patmore as butter cream on the inside!
what an actress, never misses a beat
🦋🦋🍁🦋 Mrs. Hughes is Force to be reckoned with! I always felt "safe " when she was in a scene. God bless Mrs. Hughes! 🥰💕
Mrs. Hughes ran the Abbey well without worshipping the family. She had compassion, kept all the secrets and ran Carson without him knowing it.
as they say 'behind every good man...'

She was my absolute favorite, hands down. I wished for more and more of her
Mrs. Hughes is a BOSS
What a wonderful wonderful housekeeper 😊
My fav lady after the dowager and cousin isobel. She reminds me of my grams in a way. Stern but caring, unshakable
What a great show. We watch it every weekend. 😊

She was fierce and Phyllis Logan says the inspiration was her Maths teacher.
I bet that math teacher was a Nun!!!! She reminds me of a catholic nun.
I hope the do one with Mrs Pattmore next.
Love Elsie!

Tune
"Call your own tune" is an old and common expression.
@@DUCKDUCKGOISMUCHBETTER Thank you for clarifying. Its greatly appreciated.
Mrs Hughes's tough, fair, smart and compassionate character, a bit similar to Prof Mcgonagall in Harry Potter.
🤩 💯 👏🏻
*Well, Mr Carson is certainly luckier than he deserves* 😏
Mrs Hughes is a delight! 😇
Mr. Hughes was very lucky. He got a wonderful woman as his wife.
D - if you're watching after the loss, please reply. Thinking of you. 💔 💔 💔 And this is me - changed my avatar on the bird after you called me out.
Rest in peace, Maggie McGonagall Smith
So sad😢
Mrs. Hughes reminds me of the Meghan Trainor song, "Mother".
Ugh that creepy Green guy

I liked a lot of the premises of Downton Abbey. However, when a woman married, SHE took on her husband's social standing and not the other way around.
