    2160p 4K HD!
    Spotting from a few different lineside locations on the East Coast Mainline.
    For those who aren't aware the East Coast Mainline is the route from London King's Cross to North East England & Scotland, destinations include Leeds, York, Hull, Newcastle, Edinburgh and beyond.
    Having previously filmed at Abbots Ripton I decided to take a trip back there. But unfortunately the crossing has since been closed and fenced off. So we drove elsewhere in search of a good vantage point for filming. We tried Holme Crossing, which seemed a little busy and restricted in terms of views. Then found Conington Level Crossing. The crossing is quiet and allowed a good view of trains approaching from either direction. A quick disclaimer that all footage was filmed from behind the fence (of course!) At no point was I trespassing or anything ridiculous like that. Just so happens that at the crossing you get some absolutely incredible close ups of the trains passing, most of which are at high speed!
    TRAINS INCLUDED: New LNER Azuma, class 91's (225 sets) & the classic HST's. Also 2x class 90's operating LNER services. A Hull Trains class 180 & a Great Western HST operating for Hull Trains seen passing Holme Crossing. Grand Central 180's. All of those are seen travelling at high speed. Then of course on the ECML expect to see some Thameslink class 700's and also includes a Freight move lead by DB Schenker 66149 + 66098.
    Some great close ups and a fantastic viewing spot on the ECML!
    Thanks for watching!

    I like how even on warm days you can see how much hot air blasts out the top of the 91s and 90s too especially when they're slowing down. They seem to chuck out more "exhaust" than the diesels as they pull into a station!.

    According to the reaction of that foliage, a train's 100 mph gust of wind always appears after the entire train passes by.

    • @xaiano794
      @xaiano794 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      exactly right, you get vortices behind the train as the air races to fill in the void where the train just was. These radiate outwards in a V shape behind the train.

    Some good toots from drivers lol.....the pantos have to reach up quite high...seen one or two other areas where wires seem quite higher than normal....usual height is 4-5 ft those seem like 6-7ft....good example this stretch of Block signals changing as each train goes through sections.

      The trains I've grown up with since a kid. Can't help but be slightly resentful towards the Azuma....
      I'm lucky that I was young enough to still remember the Valenta powered HST's. My abiding memory from when I was about 9 or 10 years old is standing on a footbridge one bloody freezing night with my Mum, watching the trains pass underneath. The sound of that Valenta howl heading off into the darkness and lingering off in the distance for a good minute or two sometimes...I loved it.
      I'm genuinely very sad that both the HST and 91 will be gone soon. I'm going to miss them.

    • @iainmillar1532

      Controlled crossings. The train only gets a green signal once the barriers are down and the crossing is visually (by camera) checked to be clear.

    Sad that the only British trains which go faster than these are on the Eurostar line. We pretty much have the worst trains in western Europe.

    • @TrainPlaneHub
      @TrainPlaneHub  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Our trains are faster than most countries in Europe. Just not France & Germany. We also have a higher frequency of long distance services than any other country in the world. Every 20 minutes from London to Manchester & Birmingham. Twice hourly to Edinburgh & Leeds. We've got one of the best systems in the world believe it or not.

    • @josephharrison8354
      @josephharrison8354 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrainPlaneHub Spain also has the third largest HSR network in the world. Actually, our trains barely even count as high speed.

    • @TrainPlaneHub
      @TrainPlaneHub  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@josephharrison8354 Oh yeah I forgot about Spains new network. Still we have the highest frequency of long distance trains there is and our network is much more vast. London to Manchester in 2 hours and Birmingham in just over an hour really isn't bad. Try getting between 2 major US cities by rail that quickly every 20 minutes. Why do we need quicker... Just because countries twice our size do? We can still get from London to most major cities within a few hours.

    • @russouk
      @russouk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      our country is one of the top densest populated countries in the world..we were the densest populated No of heads per sq mile in world....and per rata we have worlds largest rail system,iUK has towns \cities closest together than most of ether countries,and we have best coverage for 99% of all countries...thats not bad...I myself think our rail best in world....ok japan has one fancy fast train....less people to worry about annoying with rails......most of europes locos as far as im concerned look from 1950`s and run same.....we have best stock on rail....American locos..look even worse than russian..

    • @josephharrison8354
      @josephharrison8354 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@russouk That's your opinion, and that's fine. But you're not entitled to your own facts.
      The UK's rail network is extremely dense, this is true; it's the ninth densest in the world. It's also extremely slow; the average line speed is about 65mph. Even the high speed mainlines only count as such because they're upgraded rather than dedicated high speed lines. At 125mph, they just about count as high speed. 25 other countries have high speed rail, and in every single one of them, it's faster and more punctual than ours.
      Overall, the UK is ranked 8th in Europe in terms of rail infrastructure. But quality of service only counted for a third of that scoring; there, we're the joint sixth worst. Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Austria, Sweden and France all scored better than us overall. And as for global rankings, Japan and now China are just way out ahead.
      It's hoped that Crossrail, the vast array of upgrades being carried out this year, and eventually HS2, will make the UK's rail infrastructure an actual world leader, like it was 200 years ago when it started building the railways that we still use.
