    An evening trip to Linslade Curve on a clear, but cold Autumn night on October 22nd 2019. I've filmed from Linslade many times now, it offers a great vantage point for photography particularly as its on a tight bend which makes for some great shots of the Pendolino's & Voyagers at full tilt. Linslade is just north of Leighton Buzzard station on the WCML.
    With Virgin's days now numbered you'll notice a few of the pendolino's wearing a blank all white livery. Its not dressed up as a ghost for halloween unfortunately, its had its branding stripped ready for the franchise change in the coming month.
    INCLUDES: Freightliner & GBRF Class 66's, Royal Mail 325's, Virgin Pendolino's & Voyagers, London North Western 350's and Southern Class 377's.
    All filmed during the evening peak in the run up to sunset on October 22nd 2019 between 16:30 & 18:30.
    Thanks for watching!

    APC tilt made passengers sick,one factor to why it failed...IIRC all voyagers have tilt ability but its disabled...only Pendo has tilt,but limited as most curves now in UK are canted like the Cambered curves on motorways and fast roads. the 66 wasnt hanging around....didnt used to like pendos much...but they DO look impressive at speed on a curve coming at yer....eh

      LNER & Grand Central between Kings Cross & York non stop 188 miles in an hour & 50 mins is average speed 102.8mph. Virgin also do Non stop Euston to Crewe & Warrington which I’m sure will be quicker as well as LNER’s southbound morning service which is non stop from Newcastle to Kings Cross. There’s lots that are faster than Stafford to Euston.

    Could someone tell me why the Virgin electric trains only use one connection to the overhead electric lines.

    • @gteaz
      @gteaz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trolleys push the cable up and gravity is pulling the cable down, move that at along the cable at 80mph, the line shakes. Adding a second trolley to a shaking line increases wear and tear.

    • @Ashleigh_T
      @Ashleigh_T 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @dapto234
      Simply because it is not required. The carbon strips on the pantograph of the class 390 are sufficiently sized to take the full load required by the train. The two pantographs on the 390 share the same HV busbar, so is able to provide power to all motors. To have both pantographs up would cause electrical damage on the train due to the small voltage difference at each pantograph that could result in current flowing in the opposite direction to that intended. To avoid this, they are interlocked so that it is physically impossible to have two up at the same time.
      The many EMUs in this video with multiple pantographs up are able to because each unit is isolated from the joined unit. The pantograph is only able to provide power to the motors on that individual unit, so needs a pantograph up on each train to give the train full power.
      The Eurostar that is mentioned also needs two pantographs up because the HV busbar is split in two on the train. The Eurostar is effectively two half trains joined together so that in theory, if there is an emergency in the Channel Tunnel, the train can be split in half and able to still power itself out of the tunnel.
      It is also true that multiple pantographs up causes contact issues with the following pantographs after the leading pantograph causes the wire to oscillate. To help this issue, trains may be limited to lower speeds, or the following pantograph may have a greater pressure in the air cylinder to have a greater lift force pushing the pantograph into the contact wire. The pantograph arms also have set aerofoils on them to increase the lift force. A train must be tested and certified for multiple pantograph running performance before it is allowed on passenger services.
