There's something so mature, elegant, melancholic, sublime about those Sochi skates that make her silver so hard to accept still to this day, almost ten years later. Those two programs saw a skater at the height of her powers.

      well karma hit them real bad. they won gold and silver in korea, yuna's turf, but not under their flag and country. alina and zhenya couldn't drape their shoulders with their flag during their victory lap at pyeongchang, nor did their flag raised and their national anthem sang... if only russia waited and had trust to the natural way of how things should be, they could've had their moment of glory. but no. instead they stole yuna, caro and mao's rightful medals just so they can satisfy their greed. and where is their champion now? she has her medal, but she never had the glory that will last :/

    From a ballet dancer's perspective, 'send in the clowns' was the most beautiful and elegant program I've ever seen. The level of musicality is something I rarely see on the ice as skaters focus more their jumps and then their step sequence making it inconsistent, but Yuna was consistent in her feelings from start to finish. Honestly robbed

    Even after 5 years, still feel bitter and mad about Sochi. I don't blame Sotnikova for winning because it was judges who gave her Gold, yet the behaviour and the arrogance she showed to us after that was reprehensible- including when she walked out of the conference room without any notice during Yuna's interview. Her actitud was bad since the beggining, do you think all the negative towards her it's just because of the judges? No, that's not her fault, BUT a LOT of people dislike her for her actions, I know that because I'm one of them.

      @Kelly Wang There is footage of Adelina staring at the screen as Yuna performed her free skate. As a skater, she should know when a performance is miles better than your own. She was a delusional and knew that her country would fix the competition in her favor. NBC's footage shows only the part where she sees the Yuna results. But extended footage shows her watching Yuna's entire performance as she was last to skate. Adelina's attitude was disgusting. It wasn't like Adelina was 15 years old.

    • @aracelichely2954
      @aracelichely2954 5 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      @Kelly Wang Please stop with that BS. I don't mean to be disrespefull but you obviously just try to make excuses for her that are misleading BECAUSE even if the reporters were "attacking her" which they WERE NOT and you don't have how to prove otherwise, she left WHILE Yuna was speaking, so she didn't have ANY reason to leave making that noise and fuzz while by respect she should have just listen to her competitor (who was not guilty btw, or are you accepting that she is the worst Olympic champion in history for acting like an insolent brat with no sportmanship whatsoever?) And c'mon! If adelina is a skater knowledgeable (that she should if all her life she trained to compete) then she KNEW about yuna's ability, about Yuna's PCS, about Yuna's technique, etc (and of course the HUGE difference with her own abilities, even in her best day adelina didn't deserve such scores and she knows it because just weeks before she wasn't even close, she knew her technique was bad, that her scores could not raise 20 points in such short time, it's not possible, how can her fans assure she didn't know?) she knew yuna was the regining Olympic champion with two legendary performances (with broken records) AND she knew her in WC2013 because also Yuna had other two legendary performances and won that time while adelina was left behind in 9 place. Please, adelina is not dumb. Her fans never ceases to amaze me with all the excuses when you only need to use logic and use your eyes to see the obvious.

      Not only you but me too . The differrent between Sochi and Vancouver it's because whole picture is different
      In Vancouver she just 19 years old I felt like she very focus about technical elements more than component , she's full of energy in every things she does , she's so fast on the ice (than Sochi) and she look like hungriest to win ever (she wait for Vancouver since she was younger)
      - James Bond is sassy program , fastest speed program ever seen in the ladies (her speed going in 3-3 and 3F is magic)
      -Piano concerto in F is so aesthetic to look at because she's so grace looking and musical on every step on the ice , she skate like a dream (so perfect)
      But in Sochi she growing up , more experiences , she not the same body strength like Vancouver anymore I felt like she focus on component more than technical (Vancouver her technical so strong but in Sochi her component is so strong)
      Send in the clowns is magic , no one skated soft and delicate than her , her feel the music so

    • @pjchj3599
      @pjchj3599 5 ปีที่แล้ว +83

      So well , her component is strongest she ever done
      -Adios Nonino is the best artistic program around 10 years before she made did performance for me , she's so calm , so elegant , every movement reflect to the music (she hit every beat of the music) , her skating skills is superb , her interpretation is by far the best, everything in this program is piece of artistic /musicality/nuance/emotionals (it just energy on her spin is drop and slightly shacking second lutz but whole picture is superior program than anybody )

Like it’s clear as a day that her performance was a gold medal worthy compared to to all the skaters who skated that day. Yuna didn't want to prepare for the 2014 Olympics to get another gold, but she decided to train hard and go anyway before world 2013 because she felt a responsibility to provide Olympic experiences for other young Korean by achieving a good placement at worlds (which she really did, who became the 2013 World champion, delivering 2 clean performances).
    Time flies. In Sochi 2014, after the short program Yuna realized that no matter how well she skates the free, she might not be able win back-to-back gold, long before even seeing the scores for Adelina.
    The next day, after finishing her FS, how accomplished she must've felt after delivering 2 more clean performances at the Olympics! She knows that the majority of the Russian crowds are indifferent toward her performance, but nevertheless she waved toward all the audience and towards the camera, to all of us watching in front of the TV and to her competitive career. When she saw the scores for her free program she simply laughed because of relief.
    But can you believe what a miracle it was? Behind all of this, she skated under severe injury and pressure. Yuna's right foot injury was still there as she performed (~1.5cm-long fracture) and she had to go to the hospital until the day before she travelled to Sochi. As a result of her fractured right foot, she has been using her left foot more than she used to during practice and this caused another muscle injury on her left leg. Her doctor and physiotherapist had to go to Sochi with Yuna, and the doctor said Yuna must be in severe pain during her performances, and her injuries must have affected her spins and jumps....To make the situation ever worse, there was added pressure. She had to wait for a suspisiously long time for the judges to announce the score of the previous skater as she warmed up, waiting and gliding across the rink as the last skater with all eyes focused on her. Then the music starts. Also for her performance, she skated in front of a rude crowd (like a man who tried to scare her by yelling before she landed her triple jumps as seen from one of the fancams on TH-cam). At the end of her iconic ending pose, 80% of the Russian crowd didn't even clap or stand up for her.
    Despite all that, she did her best to leave an unforgettable impression and legacy to the world. Yet, she, Carolina Kostner and possibly Gracie Gold became victims of daylight Putin robbery.
    There are so many analysis around TH-cam of why Yuna was the real Olympic Champion, both technical and statistical.
    At the end of the day, Russia got a taste of its own medicine in PeyongChang 2018. The gold medalist of Sochi was nowhere to be seen, bullied by the world constantly, and the silver medalist was forever remembered. It's hard to put down why she's the queen, but I tried my best as you could see from above. She was the pioneer for Korean figure skating.
    What a name to be admired and remembered, Yuna Kim!

    Alexander Zhulin said "Looking at the performance, Kim Yu-na, I want to quit coaching, Such a talent is born once in a thousand years." Why did he say that?
    Even ordinary people who are not experts in figure skating often say that Yu-na Kim's skating is so natural and different from other skaters. All of Kim's movements are so natural that even professional experts praised her performance for making four minutes feel like seconds.
    The athletes that the public sees on the air are all world-class athletes, as they are capable of competing in international-level competitions. And in most cases, the difference in skill between players at international level is not great. Rather, they are small enough to lead or trail each other. This is also why the competition in international level is fierce and rivals exist. For example, in Track and field 100m event, the speed between players differs within 0.01 second, so it is indistinguishable with the human eye. Therefore it is necessary to borrow the power of science and technology such as a high-speed camera to cover the ranking. Likewise, it is not easy for non-professional spectators to differentiate between the skills of world-class figure skaters.
    So why does Yuna Kim's skating look different and natural than other skaters? Why does Yuna Kim's performance look so natural that even people who don't know much about figure skating can tell her performance from other player's? The fact that Yuna Kim's performance looks different from that of other world-class players even in the eyes of the general public is proof that there is an overwhelming difference between Yuna Kim and other players.
    Because of her unparalleled genius, all the movements and techniques from head to toe when skating perfectly flow through the music, from note to note. It is also because it goes beyond this and penetrates the fundamental premise of beauty and art, balance and harmony. Among previous legends who were recognized for their artistry, there was no example of having music at her or his disposal, from the stormy fervor of a Danse macabre to the grace of a Gershwin floating like a feather on the ice. So facial expression acting is only a help, and skating itself is an art. By doing so, she elevated figure skating beyond an artistic sport to an art itself.
    In addition, Yuna Kim's jump is a flying jump that cannot be seen by even male athletes as well as women. And Yuna Kim's step technique, which has been neglected by the judges, is extremely difficult in itself, but considering Yuna Kim's unrivaled speed, it is a ridiculous skill That's it.

    After the disaster that was Beijing 2022, I needed to cleanse my soul with why I love this sport.

    That send in the clowns is just unbelievably exquisite, down to the minutest detail. Beautiful beautiful beautiful performance. Such taste, such superb control, such elegance and grace, with unsurpassed technique. SMOOTH AS SILK. There's just nothing like it anymore. I truly wish all skaters today would get down to studying her skating. But they won't do it because there's no incentive to. The criteria have degraded.
