You would be surprised how many people love and enjoy Indian music, traditional or mainstream all around the world!! Because it is unique and beautiful! Greetings from Germany 💖❤️💕🌹🌺
@@majatadic549 Love ❤ from India 🇮🇳
I think that it's a confusing thing about figure skating (even tho I'm not sure).
The ISU, the organization that rules this sport, usually refers as "folk" to what is often known as "world music" that encapsulates folk but also everything that is more or less typical of one place.
That season they had to choose for the original dance music that was folk or country, so they chose indian music and that's why they were labeled as indian folk even when it's just mainstream indian music
I love Bollywood Tunes I live to play it when I'm cleaning my hpuse
It was beautiful even thou it wasn't folk, it was classic Bollywood music
It was classic Bollywood music but the dancing style was folk!
There's nothing classical Bollywood in this. Classical Bollywood songs are different.

now this is called culture appreciation. this is so beautiful!
How exactly is this culture appreciation? This is them doing a performance on Bollywood music.. Leave it at that. There's no such thing as culture appreciation or misappropriation.
@@andypereira362 This is culture appreciation because they're not representing the culture as their own, but instead are introducing Bollywood art on a world stage. Culture Appropriation is to take aspects of another culture and to act like you invented it or take the spotlight off of actual people of that culture.
@@andypereira362 there definitely is something called cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation. Google is free dodo brain.

Can't we have more of this?
People from different cultures dressing and appreciating other cultures without being called out for cultural appropriation?
This is really pretty.
Faty j nooo this is based off south asian culture. if a white women were to wear traditional black hair or asian outfits she deserves to be told it’s cultural appropriation (i just used a white female as an example)
@@madisonmontgomery45 I'm not against people using asian outfits, since asians themselves do not care when it's done respectfully and not in a mocking way. I'm not even against white people using dreadlocks, etc, but we gotta admit white people look ridiculous doing it, while black people look gorgeous and powerful. It's a matter of respect and empathy, not opressor vs opressed.

@@palomaemanuella I'm south asian and agree. People should be able to wear cross-cultural outfits, while respecting the culture - rather than just wearing it for fads or Halloween parties. Charlie and Meryl did justice here!

People who say this is cultural appropriation are ignorant. They are honoring, respecting, and bringing awareness to other cultures in a tasteful way! @Ashish yadav A foreigner skating to a Hindi song is cultural appropriation?
@Ashish yadav how does that even matter lol. They are there to compete. Why should they care about representing Indian culture?
@Ashish yadav it was cultural appreciation. Canada is a meltingpot. Meryl and Charlie represented that cultural diversity as there is a substantial group of Vancouver citizens of Indian descent. Their cultural background and it's origins are celebrated by two athletes of european descent. That is not appropriation(which is a real thing); it's appreciation.
@@roddo1955 as an Indian, I agree with roddo here. That was cultural appreciation at its purest. All the respect was paid to the culture, while making sure that the athletes enjoyed performing too. There's no better way to embrace Indian culture than that. And the term appropriation does exist, and us valid, but it is often taken off context and misunderstood.
