Just a tip for all. It makes it very easy and less likely to break the dash bezel when pulling it out if you just pop the fuse panel cover off then loosen the two 7/16 nuts on the bottom of the steering column so it drops a couple of inches. The dash bezel will come out and install with ease after you drop the column a bit.

I'm a 35yr old man who has been deathly fearful of messing around with the dash of my truck to update the lights, but then here you come and explain things so detailed and smooth like a Charlie Crockett tune. Truly appreciate this video. I'm still not brake enough to attempt it now, fearful of braking the plastic trim and you can imagine how hard it is to find replacement parts....but I'm definitely not as stressed about it as before and hopefully soon I'll tackle it slowly. Thank you.
Tip to getting the dash out easier: The dash gets caught on the headlight "control knob". Reach under the dash and find the control knob mechanism, there is a very small knob/switch/button. Push that little button and out slides the light control knob, helps get the dash out a lot easier.
This video is super helpful! I have a 91 W150 and behind the dash was just a mess. My 4x4 bulb was pulled out, the message board was pulled out, and my OD switch was pulled out behind the dash. I also found the map light and was scratching my head as to where it went...and that was one of the first things you showed...lol.
I was hoping to find a video for taking the whole dash out. I have had my dash cluster out. But now I must have had a mouse chew through the start position hot wire, I have crank no start. I alreay relaced all the other elecical parts except relays under the hood.
Great vid, Sir. Can an electronic contact spray be used to separate the bulbs from the holders to break the corrosion/adhesion? Also: what do you think of the Cummins 12V? Is it worth swapping one into an older 70's truck? Looking for a good excuse to sell the 440....
Man the one question that was asked were did u buy them .. amazon.. great but … what bulb are they so we can have them ordered out and replaced in a day vs dash out then order them wait then install then 2 weeks later your ready to install … unless I missed it .. thanks
I did the same in mine, but it started draining my battery once I turned my headlights on. Any ideas?? It has a new alternator, battery. I’m thinking instrument cluster regulator??
I have no idea how you got that so incredibly wrong. The name "First Gen" was given to the 1981 model year, which was the first model since the 60's to be officially crowned with the name "Dodge Ram" after the hood ornaments (which had been used since 1933). And technically, the "First Gen Cummins" didn't come out until 1989. The "Second Gen" name was given to all full sized dodge pickups starting after the 1993 model year and lasted until 2002, when the new generation came out. Dude, I don't even know how you got that info so wrong. You didn't even get the starting year of the "Square-body dodge" right (1972 btw). You must be thinking of the Tin-grilles and the late model body styles.

It is the exact same truck since 1972 "ram" naming didn't start till 1981 and there was almost nothing new about it aside from a badge. The Ram-head insignia had been used for decades on dodge trucks before. First gen for D-series trucks is the sweptline dodge from 1960 and that's not even close to "first" First gen dodge is 1930's. What are we erasing history? Is First a new code word for fifth? Almost as bad as OBS Fords "original Body Style" in 1980. What?!?!? Were trucks before this without a body?

That's how I took mine out. I loosend the nuts, and let the wheel drop down maybe an inch.
