1989 Dodge D150 muscle truck I've been working on.

  • I've been working on this truck of and on for about two years now. Figured it was time to show you guys. It was a V6 with auto trans, and now it is a 318 Magnum V8 with an A833 overdrive.
And I made a mistake in the video. It has Flowmaster glass-pack mufflers, not Edelbrock.

I have two old Dodge trucks, one is an '83 D-100, stock 318 and the other is an '86 D-150 4X4 stock 360. Both have a little rust over the back wheels. Other than that, they are solid. My black mouth cur passed away, she was 15 and the best dog ever!

I'm working on my 1990 D150 S/B. It currently runs a rebuilt 5.2 TBI. I have the original 5.2 LA Roller at the engine shop getting worked over for a little fun at the strip. Should put down around 420+ HP when complete. I might make high 12s at the track. I have to change the torque converter out and I'm still not terribly sure how well the A500+O/D tranny will hold up to 420 ponies.
There's something magical about these 1st gen Dodge P/U's that's hard to explain. I suppose it's not a Chevy or Ford...haha! Good luck on your truck! I'll try to post something on YT when mine is finished.

I live in Pennsylvania dude so I know how it is trying to find one of these 80s dodges without a assload of rust first hand. They can be very solid when you find them intact but in Pennsylvania here you get guys that sell rot boxes for five grand. Hopefully I'm picking up an 88 Dodge D100 here soon myself

I've got a brown and gold 89 D150 V8. The paint is in great condition. The hood looks weathered, some of the bare metal is showing and has a patina. I need to seal it before it starts to rust.
Which brings me to my next point: the hood right above that gutter/lip is completely rusted out all the way across it.
It's covered up by black flex seal tape 😅

I got it at Summit. It is their branded HEI. Pretty sure it doesn't show up under the magnum engines, but it should for the L.A. engines. I didn't find it, I was at the store and the parts guy recommended it when I complained about the MOPAR setup that requires different items for spark, I wanted a GM style and didn't even know it. He said, get this. And I did.

It was originally a V6 truck and I swapped in the 5.2. That's what I meant in calling it a V6 truck. Everything would have been easier if I had gotten a V8 truck to begin with and just modified it, but this truck has zero rust, and that was more important to me.

Really cool truck. I’m thinking about running a Magnum with a carburetor in my ‘74 D100 and glad to see the serpentine and A/C setup works with the Edelbrock intake (if I have to fab a little something that’s ok). Not sure what year your van is and maybe you already know this, but if you’re interested in lowering your truck, the vans have a recessed spring pocket in the lower control arms, I haven’t done it yet but it’s the cheap and ‘easy’ way for a 3 inch drop, (several videos about it on YT). For names, maybe ‘Casper’ or ‘Smoke’.

@@reacew7624 LA engines are junk compared to the Magnums. They are severely outdated!! The internals are weak, the cylinder bores wear excessively and the engines don't seal as well. Plus the heads are pathetic!!! The heads don't breathe no wear near as good as the Magnum's. About the only thing they have going for them are the shaft rockers, and your not going to really benefit from that unless your turning 7k RPM. The Magnums are a superior upgrade in every way! The only reason to do an LA build would be for a old show car or if you wanted to do a period correct build for the LA era. If a person chooses to do a performance build and uses a LA over Magnum, for the reason of them thinking an LA is better than a Magnum, is seriously misinformed. LA engines have their place, but Magnum's are head and shoulders improvement over the LA engines in every way. The Magnum was designed for that reason. How are you going to argue with engineers, and proven facts. 😂 The only good LA engines I would consider are the late roller cam versions of the late 80- early 90's before the LA was completely phased out for the Magnums.
