      Hello, I know you probably wont come across my comment, but just in case you do, can you talk about the 2.4 and 5.8 ghz? and also what you think is best to use to get better stronger signal. thank you.

      I know that there are "landing pads" that you can get for drones. I personally suggest not getting those. If you're a photographer or filmmaker, chances are you have a 2in1 or a 5in1 reflector lying around (and if you don't you should get one). Use that (it's basically the same as the "landing pads" from the official site, but with other uses when you are filming with your camera). I carry one with me whenever I take my camera somewhere, so why not use it to land the drone? That's just my philosophy... Tall Grass be gone.

    I've owned the Spark for 3 months and absolutely love it. The only negative and not major is flight time. With the Mavic Air (combo) currently selling for $160 below normal retail cost, I'm extremely close to upgrading. I hope it's not significantly noisier than the Spark. Awesome review by the way, thank you.

    • @Dronevalley

      Paul, The Mavic Air is an amazing upgrade to the Spark and I've been flying 2 of them for over a year and love them. It flies longer and farther than the Spark and is just a dream in the air. I am uploading a clip today talking about the DJI Summer sale and have 15 coupons I'll be giving away Next week to save you another 5% off the sale price. Look for that clip to upload today and enter the contest for the chance to win one of these. It'll be a short contest and I'll pick the winners in 48 hours. If you do decide to pull the trigger before then, please use this link to help support the channel - tinyurl.com/y4gx8ccl. Thanks, Rick

    Stumbled onto your site and am impressed with your review. Not even sure why I watched the entire thing, I don't own a drone, but have to commend you on the in depth and obviously well researched presentation. I almost wish I owned a drone now.

    I agree that it's hard to get the card out but I a) press the card to eject and b) use a dedicated pair of plastic tweezers to remove the card. It works every time. I love my Mavic Air.

    As someone who stutters and stops a lot and needs a detailed script for narrating videos, an under-appreciated aspect of this video is this guy's lack of cuts. Very succinct, confident speaker.

    Great video! Re: getting the SD card out, for my Raspberry Pi card I attached a piece of scotch tape and folded it over itself so that it attached to both sides of the outer half of the card. That way, there's always a little piece of tape to grab and pull it out. Might help for this situation as well.

      I recently purchased the Mavic Air. Seen a lot of reviews saying it is really hard to get the SD card out. I don’t know if everyone already noticed, but it is spring loaded. So if you push it in more it pops out. For me it has not caused any issues so far. But I do agree using the cable is way easier and faster.
      Thanks for a great review :)

    One of the best if not the best review, thank you Rick! I bought the Mavic AIr and I didn't like your review because I wanted to justify my purchase. I bought the Mavic Air because it suits my needs. I am not worried about not having Ocusync because one of the rules in my country of flying a drone is you must only fly during the day and keep your drone within visual line-of sight..Plus the extra sensors that the Mavic Air has.
    I love the Mavic Air. Thanks again!

    Hi Rick from BBC on Long Island buddy! I must tell you that 6 yrs ago I had a bad car accident and suddenly after working 34 yrs I was fighting for my life being totally paralyzed ! After a lot of work and at 53yrs old at the time I was able to walk out of the nursing home. Ok now I am forced retirement and can't do too much physically so I was told to get a , " Hobby " , now that's where you came in to my picture of life! After watching all of the drone video's out there , your video's are the most informative and for obvious reasons, you are my favorite and helped me with my new hobby..........I just wanted to thank you and just remind you how popular you are Rick !!! Almost Rock Star Status ! PS I own a pro 4 + I will be buying a second drone(maverick pro) ..I just don't know which one zoom? Anyway please hook me up where to buy it and suggestions about the monitor......because I love my pro4+ because I liked just pulling out the controller and bam your all set to fly instead of playing with wires setting up a phone or tablet!!! Help me out Rick ? What tablet should i buy for my new Maverick??? Thanks Rick , your my guy buddy!

    Rick ... I'm a big fan of the CrystalSky Monitor and wanted to share with you how to overcome the connection problems with the CrystalSky and the Mavic Air. I find that if I follow this procedure I never have a problem:
    1st flight of the day:
    Step 1: Power up Crystal Sky (no cables connected)
    Step 2: Power up Mavic Air Controller and Mavic Air (don't move on until you have established a connection between Mavic Air Controller and Mavic Air)
    Step 3: Connect your cable to the Mavic Air Controller
    Step 4: Connect the other end of your cable to your CrystalSky
    Subsequent Flights (at the end of the first flight, do not totally power down CrystalSky and don't disconnect any cables):
    Step 1: Wake up CrystalSky (no need to disconnect any cables prior to this step)
    Step 2: Power up Mavic Air Controller and Mavic Air
    I followed these procedures and 100% of the time I had a consistent connection. One other problem with using the CrystalSky on the Mavic Air, it will not work with DJI Mavic Mount that they sell for the Mavic. The Jaws that hold the piece that mates up to the CrystalSky mount are different dimensions then that on the Mavic Air. I wound up going with a third party mount that holds my CrystalSky Monitor and works real well on the Mavic Air.
    I just wanted to share this with your community if they wanted to fly the CrystalSky Monitor on the Mavic Air.

    • @thewomble
      @thewomble 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I use my Crystalsky monitor.
      STEP 1 Turn on drone.
      STEP 2 Turn on RC.
      STEP 3 Connect the monitor to the RC by using the USB port on the side of the RC and to either USB port on the side of the monitor depending on what cable you have. I DON'T USE THE PORT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RC OR MONITOR.
      STEP 4 The monitor turns on automatically most times. If it doesn't turn monitor on. Then wait till it loads and hit the FLY GO.
      Damn nuisance not be able to use the mount I got for the SPARK

    I just got the MA. I’m nervous & excited about learning to fly it and learn the special features. It would be nice to see how each flight feature works and understand what is going to happen when I select it. Also the best way to switch between each while on the fly. I hear all the warnings on what can happen on ‘fly-aways’ I’m almost afraid to take it out of beginner mode.

    18:11 I wouldn't recommend doing that as condensation you see form on a cold glass of ice water can damage electronics as well as cause other issues to avoid. Seeing this video just reminded me I have an AIO cam on a JJ1000 that went blurry in high humidity in-between cycles of rain I am hoping is moisture and not a lose light sensor from being attacked by a telephone pole that roam around my backyard looking for trouble and ended the flight in wet grass.... just checked it and now it's fine now.... thanks for reminding me;-) Amazing tech being shown...

    I've had my Mavic Air a few months now. The case for the drone fits nicely in the zip bag (that expands) on the front of the carrying bag. It would've been nice to have it inside the main compartment somewhere, but it does fit perfectly in the front bag on the carry case.

    I’m new to drones. Like a true idiot I wasn’t expecting it to be so technical. My train of thought was I could really use it for aerial views when I’m sprinting on the track. It took me 4 days to learn how to turn the damn thing on. So I’ve since put it away to first learn what to do before flying.
    Thankful for these videos. Great Job Rick thanks for the insight.

    On the USB cards, use a small piece of tape on the end bottom side of the card to make a tab, use thin tape, this creates a small tab to pull on to pull the card out. Like they do with some batteries. If you use red tape, if you drop it, it is easy to see where it is. Cheers

    Rick the very best in-depth review of the Mavic Air I have seen. Fantastic!!! I have been flying the Mavic Air for the last 2 1/2 weeks and truly love it. Over the weekend I sold my Mavic Pro and P4. Keeping my Spark as a backup. This is how confident I am that the Mavic Air will be my go to drone. If you take any still photos try -2 setting for the sharpness removes any “jaggies” perfect and crisp photos.

    Hands down...the best comprehensive review I have ever seen on a drone! The only things I would have added is talking about the sensors (if you did that I completely missed it!) and the fact that if another person is using the DJI googles the pilot cannot have a phone/tablet attached. I know you mentioned the cable port not working with the other plugged in but I would reiterate it. This is a downfall of DJI, but I'm sure they'll eventually fix it. Thanks!

    I have the Mavic Pro for a year been traveling with it a lot to many countries, China, Thailand, Bahama, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, and etc. I've been contemplating for the Mavic Air due to its portability. After watching countless reviews on Mavic Air, I decided to stay with my Pro, it is not really THAT MUCH of a size difference, at the end you'll still have to put it in a case along with the controller. For those with the Mavic Pro that knows how to stack everything into the DJI bag that comes with it, it is just as big as the Mavic Air that's packed into the case with the controller into the "bag".
    What really kills it for me is the battery life, many reviews on youtube and friends with Mavic Air states how short the battery life is, it really only last about 15min of flight time with recording. That means by the time I get the Mavic Air all step up with calibrating, proper settings, mode, and the FPS, good 30% of the battery is gone. Then you'll have to test fly the route for the footage you want, by then one battery is down, get the second battery on, fly another 15min (if you do video you don't really record 15min straight, you break it into parts, that use up even more batteries). I'll just wait for the Mavic Pro 2, I just hope it is smaller than the Pro (close to Mavic Air Size), larger sensor, 4k 120fps if possible, side and back obstacle avoidance sensors, hand gesture control, controller grip can be adjusted so you don't have to take off your iphone case, and most important is even more battery life if possible. I spent 1.3k for my Pro Bundle, so if the Mavic Pro 2 can fulfill all that mentioned above, I'll be first to preorder it right after their announcement.
    Close call on ordering the Mavic Air though, phewwww.

Good job In my time with the Mavic Air I found three areas I think that can be improved upon: removal of the SD card (you have to use tweezers), noise level (wish DJI would make quiter props), and the power button on the bottom (odd place to put it). Save your money don't buy a mavic air until you read the reviews on DJI forums regarding the signal issues and video lagging issues and on top of that the terrible flight times and be careful on some of these videos you watch because sometimes they only tell you the positives and not the negatives because some of them are under contract and they get free drones just read the reviews before you buy a mavic air and if you do buy one buy it from Amazon because after you start having these issues you could return it Amazon has a great return policy not like DJI good luck and happy flying

    I also feel the Mavic Air is my drone of choice ... my P4P is reserved ONLY for extraordinary situations when I need more flight time or more camera capabilities. I think a subtle, but major, improvement in the Mavic Air is chip speed. The feedback cycle time makes the flight characteristics exceed earlier generation drones. I also think modes like the Cinematic Mode where rate of change in acceleration is controlled as well as position are enabled by the better chip speed. I suspect the major improvements for the new Mavic Pro and the new Phantom will be how they too leverage the much higher chip speed.

    To the Wi-Fi:
    A really, really big point is: In US you are allowed to use FCC mode for the Wifi, in most other countries only CE mode is allowed legally. I think the signal strength is about 5 times stronger with FCC than CE. Just wanted to let you know.

      Maybe if some people there quit being retarded and flying near runways they would give you an FCC mode type strength lol

    I also got the Mavic Air for my main drone because of the amount of travel I do. However, mine never flew because I got a bad one and DJI customer service was just awful. After nearly three days of hold time, communications problems and agents who had less knowledge of the product than myself, I finally sent it back. I will keep flying my Mavic Pro and will probably wait for the Mavic Pro 2 or even the Autel Evo. Bottom line a product is only as good as the customer service and DJI has some of the worse CS in the business, based on my experience with the MA and the previous drones from DJI that I have had.

    I only have the Phantom 4 Pro+, Osmo, Pocket and Mavic Air ….. am I a DJI fan boy? Damn right I am ……. just had to send my P4P RC back to DJI because it wouldn't charge …… they fixed it for free and they even replaced the rubber cover for charge port that I lost. The screen had new protective film etc.
    and it was spotless.
    Either that or they just gave me a new one. Service was fast; I was informed of progress almost daily and they paid the return postage. The sort of service I would expect if I had bought a Care Refresh package .…. but I hadn't!
    Brilliant service.

    I personally am done with phones and tablets because they are just not bright enough to see in daylight even with full brite and a shade. finally broke down and got a large ultra brite Crystalsky monitor and now I'm a happy camper. I use it on my P4 and my Air . I got a CS DJI mount for Mavic Pro and adapted it for use on the Air. This way i can take it off the P4 and put it right on to the Air controller with no hardware changes.

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment and I agree with you. Most tablets and phones are not great in any sunlight and I find myself searching for the shade of a nearby tree to help me see the screen. The CrystalSky monitors fix this issue with their brighter screens and also make flying more reliable because of their closed software image. I am working on a review for the CrystalSky and even though I love it, there are a few things I'll pick on in the review, like the fact that it doesn't come with a basic mount. Stay tuned for that review and see if you agree with my findings. Thanks, Rick

    Just started w my new Mavic Air. Its amazing and everything in this video is on target. The one thing that I couldn't figure out from the manual was where the port was to update the hub firmware. Thanks for pointing out the removable cover. It wasn't clear in the manual that it was to be removed first and it looked like it was permanently attached like the other pads on the hub so I thought it might no longer be needed.

    A useful tip for easy extracting the micro sd card from the « hard to reach « slot: put a short scotch tape at the rear of the card,short enough not to interfere with nothing, and gently pull the tape (and the card) without difficulty...

      Andre, thanks. I've done that with a few of my MicroSD cards and was only complaining (a little) that DJI didn't give us better access to the card. Nice video. Thanks! But one tip if you're okay with it. Sit further away from the green screen, cause the reflecting light of the screen spills on the edges of you as the subject. More distance of the screen avoids this and makes a better image.. now it's a bit weird looking.

    My math may be wrong but the battery is 27.43 Watt-hour capacity so to charge from a 5v source it would need a charging current of 5.48 amps (in one hour).
    Granted, USB-C supports voltages greater than 5v but charger/cable compatibility becomes an issue plus the extra cost and weight of the electronics in the drone.
    Just waiting to fly my one for the first time :)

    Always love your insights Rick. I love my MAV AIR but my complaints are no zoom on camera and no waypoints. I did fly into a tree in sport mode, bounced around like a pinball and flew out of the tree with 4 badly damaged props, Final results, not a scratch on the bird and still flys perfectly.

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you'll see a larger (1") sensor on the MP2 and maybe an optical zoom as well. That type of camera would have been too large for the MA and raised the price out of the market they were shooting for. We'll see what happens next month if the Mavic Pro 2 is released. Rick

    Just in case you're interested to know, the reason why the USBC Port does not charge the Drone battery because USBC carries 5 volts from the adapter that is plugged into. And the mavic airs battery is three Lithium Polymer cells wired in series which when fully charged is 12.6 volts

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post but that's not really the reason. USB-C is what defines the connection type, which is newer than USB-A and MicroUSB. The bigger difference is that USB-C can deliver standard USB charging power, which is typically 5V up to 2.4A, but it can also use fast charging technologies. When a drone like the Mini 3 Pro is compatible with PD (Power Delivery) or QC (Quick Charge) technology, the charger actually tests the device it's connected to and determines the current charge level. It can then modify both the voltage and current it delivers to the device to charge it quicker. With these two technologies, the maximum power can be as high as 20V @ 5A, which is more than enough to charge the Spark. So, the real reason you can't charge the Spark from the USB-C connection is that DJI did not implement any Fast Charging capabilities into the drone to take advantage of the newer chargers. The good news is that most of the current Mini drones use that so you can charge them directly. I hope that helps.
