VERY helpful video. You can tell you work with these on a regular basis. I appreciate that you tell both WHAT to do and WHY to do it. I didn't know the bit about "enough" satellites and a safe number of satellites, but now I do!
I like how he forced the propellors into place after he folded the back legs in without aligning the propellors with the drone at the same time telling us not to use force
This video should be mandatory viewing for every new drone owner. It would save them from learning all these tips the hard way. Good refresher for experienced pilots too
An important tip I found in the MavicPilots forum you didn't mention - ALWAYS CHECK YOU CRAFT'S ORIENTATION is correct in the app before takeoff!! It has happened to me twice now, with no compass error shown but the red arrow has been 180 degrees out! First time I just shut everything down, restarted and it came good. Second time it would not correct itself until I did a compass calibration. Another tip, to help remove the SD card put some tape on it to make a tab. It is safer and faster to remove the SD card to copy files than do it through the craft.
Always set to return to your current location, not the initial launch point. I shot at a large marina on one side, got in my car and drove a half mile to the other side. When i went to return home, I see it zooming away towards tall buildings, trying to head to the other side. Because it was trying to go back to my original location.
Excellent video ! I came to your channel expecting the usual statements on overflying the distance and just the likes of the person giving the video on best camera settings. I can tell a professional repair person easily. Great job very informative.
Thank you bro my mavic pro was vibrating in the air and you said that don’t have a damaged prop so I rubbed my fingers across the two sides of the props and I found some bro ken chips of prop and now it flies perfectly thank you bro very much
You're absolutely right. The more you know and have in your mind when filming, the better quality videos you will have in the end. Amazing videos can often be explained with consistency and doing the basics right. Keep up the great videos, and don't forget to keep challenging yourself and trying to improve 💪
Excellent info!! I'm new to the sport/hobby. Hadn't heard about the 10 satellites or rotor blade check anywhere else. I will be visiting your store tomorrow!
I remove the props for storage because those get in the way, can snag this and that during handling. So those come off whenever the flight is over, only go back on when it’s unfolded just before it’s switched on. Also. I found that the air when in its fly more case had its blades down-curved slightly when taken out. Didn’t like that. These aren’t cheap items considering their material cost so I don’t want premature damage. Plus anything affecting the props could increase the chance of mid flight failure, easy to imagine a total loss of the AC. So now I have an aftermarket case that’s bigger but also allows my iPad and tablet bracket to be all in the one assembly, one case holds all.
Video is good indeed and much appreciated, but the number of GPS satellites required to get a 3D location is 4 so DJI’s requirement of 7 already has some safety margin built in. You will not “lose” your RTH if it goes down to 6. Aiming for 10 when there are 31 satellites around the globe and a maximum of 12 are visible at any position, probably is overkill.
Been flying a short while and really grateful you have pointed out all the mistakes. Very helpful video. Most appreciate your efforts. Cheers from Sydney Australia.
Connect using the usb port on the controller - that way the superior range of the 2.4 / 5.8 (it picks automatically) will be working. You only connect directly to the quad using your phone's wifi if you don't have a controller and want to fly with the phone only - not ideal.
I REALLY REALLY wish i saw that video before flying my mavic air the first time. Not only got sand and dust up my camera, i ddnt know i should have 10 satellite to lock the return home position, so midway through a boomerange the drone lost the gps connection and landed directly vertically ( and did not return home )
I've never heard to multiple SD card point. Also, I can attest to the messed up prop. I had that failure happen to my JJRC X5 Epik and that could be the reason.
Glad I saw this video before buying my Mavic Air. Just wondering...how many recharges can you get from the life of the battery. How long do they last before having to replace them.
Thank you for the tips, this afternoon I had my first flight with the mavic air. I'm just wondering, how do I now how many satelites are locked in? Today it did give a message about setting the home point, but I can't remember any message about the number of satelites. Is there a menu in the app where I can check this amount?
My first drone, the phantom, decided to flip upside down, returned to home by flying straight into a gravel path! But didn't switch off!, try getting hold of a drone doing 30 mph in a circle?
When one flies the drone, do you concentrate on the video screen or the map screen? Seems that one can monitor the flight better with the map screen and monitor the yaw or horizontal movements. I use either a 32 SD card or 64 SD card. After a 10 minute flight, I watch the video on the computer. I often get two video feeds about 3.5 or 4 Gig respectively instead of one video lasting 10 minutes for about 8 Gig or so. How can I get the entire flight on one video feed?
thanks fro the video from a newbie, practicing on an e58 POS drone to learn how to run the sticks prior to a skyido 2 arriving. it won't show up till end of april I am betting. I crashed the cheap drone at least 10 times now and I can feel a nick in one of the props. I will take your advice and just get in the habit of just changing them out if I feel something. After a week I am getting the hang of the sticks and how to fly it as if a real camera was attached. I think in another week or two I will be ready to move up to a slightly better drone with gps. Any recommendations? or should I just fly the e58 until it wears out and i get a good feel for the sticks, then jump to the Skyido. I am considering the Mavic Air or the Zino 2 for the next step (and a spare drone later). My gut tells me to spend a little more and look for a used mavic AIR for ROI over the long run. Thanks for the video
Good sensible points. Thank you. Question: regarding the satellites, is it the case that the MA will not acquire satellites during flight? My (ignorant) assumption is that the GPS circuitry is "always" looking to acquire satellites and that would include during flight. After all, the satellites are moving during flight anyway, even if they don't drop over the horizon. It seems that the GPS circuitry would have been designed for that.
I dont get the importance of why you absolutely have to turn on the remote first. If the dron isnt airborne yet why does it matter? Also, can you go more into details to checkups for the drone (how to be sure the props are attached tightly, the "legs" are fine etc.). Nice video!
its always good practice but it comes from the days where rc planes and helis would take off as the servos didn't know what to do. the potential is always there and you don't want to get in bad habits if you race them either
That was an excellent video! Wow! I really enjoyed watching it, I totally gonna check out all the things that you said before I use my drone in the next time. Thanks :)
Hey can you help pls? I just lost my mavic air just now 1 am Miami Florida time. Can u teach me how to track it how to find it where it landed pls? Thanks
Hi Kerry..i refresh my droning week with this video every time...:) question... i was doing some flying lately..and suddenly there was a red pop up warning.. "MOTOR CURRENT ERROR. CHECK YOUR PROPELLERS AND FLY WITH CAUTION".. any idea whats this all about? my propellers seems find..and its still new out of the box...flown it only couple hours since out of the box. Any guide to what happened?
Read the DJI forum. They mucked up the last app update, DJI are saying it's a software issue and the drone is fine to keep flying until they come up with a fix
I never remove the SD card. I have a 64 gig card that write 100mbs and read 170 mbs. I just connect the cable to the computer to download. And format it later in the software of the mavic air itself.
I picked a drone up but the more i read the local and federal regulations the more I learn the only place you can fly these things is in your backyard unless you pay to be in a club :(
Great video. Had my drone, controller and folded up round landing pad in my hands. While opening the pad it snaps open. It almost knocked controller and drone out of my hands.
VERY helpful video. You can tell you work with these on a regular basis. I appreciate that you tell both WHAT to do and WHY to do it. I didn't know the bit about "enough" satellites and a safe number of satellites, but now I do!
Great tips... thank you.. I use a car-mat for my landing pad.. it's always with me as I always need to drive to where I can fly.
I like how he forced the propellors into place after he folded the back legs in without aligning the propellors with the drone at the same time telling us not to use force

This is best refresher video for mavic air users. I always come to this video. Thanks

Can’t see that option were do I find this as I had same issue you mentioned.
Excellent video ! I came to your channel expecting the usual statements on overflying the distance and just the likes of the person giving the video on best camera settings. I can tell a professional repair person easily. Great job very informative.
Really nice video, i wish i had seen this when i started using the Mavic Air...
I had not thought of using canned air. Thanks.
Thank you bro my mavic pro was vibrating in the air and you said that don’t have a damaged prop so I rubbed my fingers across the two sides of the props and I found some bro ken chips of prop and now it flies perfectly thank you bro very much

I appreciate these instructions. Really well put together. All the important points to be aware of. Thank you very much.
Thanks for tips!
Previously i had not paid so much attention - what to turn on first. Now it's pretty reasonable why i need to turn on RC first ;)
Great video dude, some great advice!
Funny on antrenue ( Sp ) watched vid yesterday and guy said landing gear to protect gimbal ,learning a bunch from you thanks
Just bought a mavic pro 2, watched countless beginners guides and no one has mentioned the thing with the satellites. Thanks, good video

Good video, funny how we all get used to routines, and bad habbits?
Thank you x 100 times, very good information.
Replace the battery.. Replace the card.. Good point
Great advice. Thanks for the tips.
In 2024, would you get a Mavic Air as your first drone?
Im asking because I can get one for fairly cheap.
Thanks for your time
Thank you, helpful tips for a soon to be newbie flyer!
I'd still go with a bigger card. Nothing is stopping you from generally transferring the footage to storage after each flight.
Why risk it?
I agree. What if you forgot your one 32 gb card in your pc, and now you only have one for your whole trip? Better to have 2 64's, or even bigger.
Kerry, this is just a super, helpful video! Invaluable info for us new guys. Thanks so much! (New subscriber here)
@9:00 "...becomes a flying brick, which doesn't work well": I love the Douglas Adams line: It floats in the air exactly the way bricks don't.
Good video, I get my MA delivered on Monday 7/16. Can't wait
Good advice 👍🏻
Thank you for the video! I needed to watch this!
Thanks for tips
Very good info, especially for a beginner. Tom
Good video!
Good information
Thank you, very helpful
Great tips. Thx!
Thank you very much, super tips!
Awesome video, very well made, easy to understand....
always fold both sides of your collar out before filming a youtube video.
HAHAHAHAHA
Excellent vid for us newbies👍🏼
So im confused on the wifi should i connect the quad wifi to my phone or just fly on the 2.4 or 5.8ghz?????
Connect using the usb port on the controller - that way the superior range of the 2.4 / 5.8 (it picks automatically) will be working.
You only connect directly to the quad using your phone's wifi if you don't have a controller and want to fly with the phone only - not ideal.
Excellent video. Good content and presentation. Thank you.
Great advice video! Thank you

Some good points there tbf
Thanks man, clear and clever tips with cause and effect explanation! Great job!
Some GREAT Advice, thanks so much for sharing.
thanks you share the tips
Glad I saw this video before buying my Mavic Air. Just wondering...how many recharges can you get from the life of the battery. How long do they last before having to replace them.
Typically a few hundred charge cycles if you treat them well.
Thank you for the tips, this afternoon I had my first flight with the mavic air. I'm just wondering, how do I now how many satelites are locked in? Today it did give a message about setting the home point, but I can't remember any message about the number of satelites. Is there a menu in the app where I can check this amount?
i'd love if you could do a video on how to retrieve a drone after a fly away?
On Memory Cards...I hear Extreme card alot but what about the Ultra? Will that work too?
My first drone, the phantom, decided to flip upside down, returned to home by flying straight into a gravel path! But didn't switch off!, try getting hold of a drone doing 30 mph in a circle?
Thank you very much for creating this very useful video
Do i need to share my phone internet to the mavic before i can used ?
Thanks for good tips!
Some good advice here, thank you.

The copter will continue to acquire satellites in the air
very clear and good notes. thanks. BTW, like your back ground :)
It's William Shatner Brother...lol..good Advice..
Lots of useful info, thanks
can always use your cars floor mat in a pinch
Smart
That is a great idea. I love it!
Great information, thanks for sharing!
I always turned the drone on 1st lol learned today

DJI go app/Litchi app says turn bird on first doesn't it? I understand why you say don't and it makes sense, but why the discrepancy?
That was an excellent video! Wow! I really enjoyed watching it, I totally gonna check out all the things that you said before I use my drone in the next time. Thanks :)
Very helpful... thanku sir 👍🏻
thank you for the video,it was really helpful
Thank you for your help
Hey can you help pls? I just lost my mavic air just now 1 am Miami Florida time. Can u teach me how to track it how to find it where it landed pls? Thanks
A little late I supose but don't you have the ladst coördinates saved in the app?
Hi Kerry..i refresh my droning week with this video every time...:)
question... i was doing some flying lately..and suddenly there was a red pop up warning.. "MOTOR CURRENT ERROR. CHECK YOUR PROPELLERS AND FLY WITH CAUTION"..

What happens if everything is charged but the phone dies and Mavic Air is in the air ?
Great vid, but where can I see the amount of satellites?
Aren't they simply displayed above the top satellite icon on the controller screen?
Good content 👍🏻
Thank you.
In regards to the SD card, I am using the SanDisk Extreme Flash memory card - 32 GB microSDHC UHS-I, is this a good card to use?
Scott Campbell does it support 100b/second?
And NO fly FPV in sport mode... My gimbal stopped at uncorrect position when I was flying(( Battery reset (reboot) solved all problems, TG.
Nice tutorial! Very informative on a big investment. Thanks:>)
I never remove the SD card. I have a 64 gig card that write 100mbs and read 170 mbs. I just connect the cable to the computer to download. And format it later in the software of the mavic air itself.
I think this is better, as you never forget to put the sd card back in the drone from your pc.
Thank You!!’😍👍
Useful tips
Cheers Mate!
thnx
Newbie mistake... Mavic Air always starts in normal mode regardless of switch position.
Try it
I picked a drone up but the more i read the local and federal regulations the more I learn the only place you can fly these things is in your backyard unless you pay to be in a club :(
I think you made a mistake of which one to be on! The copter ist then the remote!
You need a Black MCW jacket to contrast the background and reduce you key just a bit. Great video sir
I usually wear a black polo or button down, but the office was freezing cold that morning.
Great video. Had my drone, controller and folded up round landing pad in my hands. While opening the pad it snaps open. It almost knocked controller and drone out of my hands.
sorry I forgot to mention, I work at DJI
