Very honest video I agree with you hundred percent. 🙏I bought my iPad pro 14 inch and now I’m starting to regret it because it does the same thing as my M1 but I only bought it because of the Apple Pencil. I hope that Adobe Photoshop and procreate will able to use the squeeze effect of the Apple Pencil

me to, I hav my m1 ipad pro 12.9 for about 3 year now.
I held back from upgrading my 2021 12.9 M1 iPad Pro to see what wwdc would bring. Glad I did I was expecting something magical but now no need to upgrade.Yes a better screen thinner form factor but not much else I seriously can’t justify paying all that money for something that my 2021 M1 iPad Pro can do.

People who use iPad for that probably should buy a refurbished basic iPad. Or just a basic iPad. I love iPad and never use it for TH-cam or streaming… though with OLED I will see Netflix more probably… but big oled tv is still better if at home (and most time I am).

They clearly market it to artists and musicians so if you don't fall into one of those groups then of course, why would you buy one. It's like buying a guitar when you don't play and saying all it does is act like a decoration.

@@hekutokkuRight after the M4 iPad announcement, ZBrush says it’s coming to the iPad. Keep in mind not a single thing Max mentioned as a desired feature have anything to do with what processor is in the iPad. M4 was created for two reasons. One is to drive that OLED panel and two was to triple the speed of the neural engine. Seeing as this was the year of AI, that makes this one of the best iPadOS updates ever.
@@techinrl9869 great i love using gimped versions of davinci resolve, cubase, fl studio, final cut and logic… and the zbrush toolset is only so much better than nomad sculpt. i’ve used the M2 iPad Pro and loved it but always waited for those desktop class apps/ macos and it never came. The New Display looks incredible but what’s the point if i don’t have the applications to use with it? and no i don’t want to plug it into a either another expensive macos device or use it with windows and lose all color accuracy

IpadOS takes up enough memory don’t want to add another OS to take up even more space. People already complain there is not enough space on these IPads. Remote option in stage manager would be easier.

Apple “has just killed off the iPad Pro with the M4” because… they didn’t announce enough new iPad OS features at WWDC? So people are returning their iPads and using their other iPads? Seems like a bit of a stretch.
Finally iPad can match my 2$ calculator. It's good to see that M4 chip fully utilized.
What’s actually stupid is that the calculator app (just like weather…) is EXACTLY the same as the one on iOS.
The math scratch pad is new (to iPad obviously), but definitely feels like an UPDATE to the calculator app that would have come out now anyways.

Never forget that Apple is all about selling as many products as possible. Apple would NEVER make an iPad that would replace a Mac. They love it when people buy both machines. Why would they want to change that?
Yes the iPad Pro is for super Apple fans probably much more than pro users. They know it and it works for them. They have created a culture of people that need to have their products. Even when they don’t.
Trying to protect your market share by not being willing to provide what would be even better for your customer has good chances to backfire. Somebody else might enter that market. The qalcomm processors might provide the fusion between laptop and tablet.... for the windows world. Steve Jobs when he introduces the iPhone was ready to compete with its most successful product at that time, the iPod.
When the iPad costs more than a MacBook Air, how does that make any sense? What a waste.

Same, I have the 11” 2021 iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard & pencil and I thought lets just wait and see what they do with the software before laying down like $1700 for the same set up with the 13” M4 iPad Pro. At this point I’d only upgrade to the M4 iPad Pro if prices dropped a lot. My 2 biggest complaints with my set up are the lack of the function row and small track pad, I can’t justify the money to get those 2 things with the hamstringed iPad OS

Only good use case - 3d design or art. Everyone else it is a waste and are better off with a different product.
A docked MacOS type UX, when enabled, after connecting to a keyboard and mouse - with a proper cursor, and the ability to run Mac Software. Then when undocked, back to the traditional iPhone/iPadOS UI. This is my dream.
iPadOS 18 is the PERFECT advertisement for you to buy either an iPad Air or a MacBook Air or Mac mini. That easy!

I returned my M4 Pro for an Apple Refurb M3 MBA w/ 16/1 TB for the same price I spent on similar specs as the iPad. No brainer after watching WWDC.

Coming from an iPad that's 7 years old - it was enough. Tough for reviewers, though, Apple only does incremental improvements so your year by year doesn't change radically.

Who buy an iPad every year. Seems to me way to out of touch people. If someone has an M1 then I doubt they need an upgrade. Those who don’t have or have non M based Mack’s would now be able to get an M2 Air or M4 pro. Good for them sorry but companies are not going to keep putting out old tech just because. I still think iPads are just not going to take the place of laptops. Get a laptop instead if the need is so great.

Apple has ruined many M4 iPad Pro models because the latest version of iPadOS 18 has bricked them. So much so that they had to pull the update for the time being. Now they’re working on a bug fix, expect it to come through a software update within the next week or so.
We dont need MacOS on the Ipad - but I do agree that Apple needs to make features like Audio, File management and Stage Manager more robust. With that said, I feel no need to upgrade from my M1 IPad Pro - and if I did, I would probably get the M2 IPad Air….

Sounds a little clickbait in the title. iOS 18 doesn't ruin the iPad Pro, it just doesn't help it much.
We got neither the proper file manager nor the option to install pro apps. Without those two features, iPad Pro is not much more than a severly overpriced media consumption/note taking/sketching device, regardless of the hardware power.
It’s for artists. You are not one. Buy something else.

I bought and I’m keeping my M4 iPad Pro. I love the OLED and it’s my favorite device to consume content. It’ds not cheap but I just switched it from the 2018 version so it will last me at least that long. I’m not sure if you guys have said it or I’m sure I’ve said it, “buying something for the hope or proimise of what it may be able to do in the future is the worst type of investment desition you can make. Removing Today View was one of it’s biggest mistakes, but again I only use it to mostly consume content. Although I have to admit that since I bought it with the magickeyboard I use it to write much more than I used my 2018 iPad. Over powered? Absolutely but if it fits what you want to do with it and you got the money for it, why not?

I totally agree. After using 8 years the very first iPad Pro 9,7" I was happy upgrading to the iPad Pro M4 expecting something great was arriving. At least I was expecting an improved Stage Manager but no-only a calculator showed up. I still love the display of the new iPad-but is it worth the money?
Can I run windows 11 with parallels on the 13” M4 iPad Pro? No? Then I’m keeping my 12.9” M1 and probably buy a 14” M3 with the pro chip. Probably need a fan for windows gaming so that means no MacBook Air.
It’s not a desktop. It’s a tablet. You already have a desktop. And a MacBook. And a iPhone. You show them to us all the time. If you want yo use your desktop then use your desktop.

I don't understand why Apple puts so much power into a tablet that is incapable of using it, they are trying to do marketing to show that they make the most powerful tablet I don't see difference of speed in M1 iPad Pro and M4 iPad Pro maybe 1 sec faster or half a second or even no difference you can't use an ipad to make videos or create music they have fewer possibilities than on mac you can neither put a plug in nor have all the functionality
It’s the same thing with MacBooks and iPhones? Why upgrade the chip year over year with less than 5% improvement all across the board? It’s because there are always those who have held out with upgrading their 5+ year device and now they can finally upgrade. Apple Knows not that many people don’t upgrade year over year. They looking for those long term holders. And about unable to make videos or create videos. There are many people who can prove you wrong about that one.
The M4 is about x1.5 - x2 the performance of the M1. I just picked up an apple refurb 11 inch M1 inch ipad pro for about 40% less than an M4 in the UK. Both run on 8GB of RAM. You’re buying 10 years of software support with an M4 I guess..
Actually, there are applications that use this power, games, rendering apps, among others. I had an M1 iPad and I really notice the difference when it comes to the AAA games that are coming out

Apple doesn't care about its customers anymore. They just don't. They are just focused on profit, and they have become the old Microsoft and Microsoft is becoming more like the old Apple. I no longer desire Apple products. No real innovation and the software is weak. I bought the new iPad Pro hoping for a great OS update and I see I won't get that ever. I keep this until it dies, but then probably but something Android based if Apple remains obtuse and refuses to do things to support its customers. Android on a tablet it much more productive. I just don't trust Google with my data, so I've stayed away.
Let’s hope that someone like VMWARE releases a hypervisor for the iPad on a 3rd party app store in the EU. Then we can have every OS we want on the iPad.

It’s so annoying when Apple drops new iPads before the new OS update. Then, people who get the latest iPads and update to the new OS end up complaining about the same issues. Why can’t they just release the new iPad with the new OS?

From what i know, Apple gave green light for emulators in AppStore. But apps like UTM (VM machine) was stopped from publish, because "PC is not a console" (those are Apple words). Developers of UTM gave up.
They care more about their profits than people who don’t want to lug around another 1-2 kg of redundant weight…oh well, their competitors can serve that market.
I've got the iPad Pro 11" ... Selling it to get the most basic iPad or iPad Mini, for me there is simply nothing this new iPad does, that much greater than a base iPad

As a developer, why would you since mouse apps are so much easier to write? This is the reason Apple doesn’t put macOS on it. They’re not dumb enough to kill the iPad.
Thanks for this video. I'm shocked that there hasn't been more outcry about this. I was watching the keynote and after they were done talking about iPadOS I almost cried. That was IT? They gave us an M4 iPad Pro to run a crippled OS? Yes, just stick with your M1 iPad and you'll be just fine. Clearly Apple has no aspirations to improve the iPad Pro to a PRO level. Your list of shortcomings just made me more furious and all are true. Will it be better next year at WWDC 2025? Nope. This was the year with the M4 to turn it around. They didn't and never will. So sad. Bad Apple.
This video is even an understatement. The issue is more insidious than that. Apple just does not give a F about you, me, us or anyone but themselves. They have billions and have had tons of time on TAP... yet "ipadOS 18" is the result?? Gtfo... they are intentionally nerfing something which already was nerfed and was never even OP
BS. The iPad is and remains the best tablet in the world. What you’re complaining about is that a tablet isn’t a laptop. Shocker, it’s a tablet. It’s not nerfed. It does tablet things quite well and better than anyone else. What you want is touch hostile, so why do you want to ruin the iPad? If hybrids were so good, Surface Pros would dominate the market. Instead, their sales are a teeny tiny part of the tablet market, telling you nobody really wants what you want.
@@techinrl9869apple releases the overpriced keyboard case though. So obviously apple wants people to use an iPad more like a laptop too. It is not supposed to be just a tablet apparently. At the same time apple does nothing to actually make it work better in that way.
@@lello245 I suspect Apple released a keyboard because typing on a flat glass surface sucks. Nobody likes typing on any flat surface with no give. I’ll also point out they sell cases without keyboards, so does that mean they want the iPad to not be a laptop? A keyboard case has no bearing on the iPad being a laptop. Why don’t people believe Apple when they say they have no intention of making it a laptop? They keep saying MacBooks and iPads are complementary devices, not replacements for each other.
Horrible Review. iPads are tablets and MacBooks are laptops, two different products deserves the respect of two different reviews.
A desktop feature that is missing from iOS is undo/redo buttons in the system’s keyboard.

I did the M4 upgrade.. It's overhyped and not worth it. After that retail-therapy dopamine hit wears off you'll realize it's just the same ol' iPad and has barely improved after all these years... Its ergonomics are also just as bad to look at and use as an iPhone.
I didn’t need to upgrade my 2018 pro either, but I know someone starting school in the Fall & I’m selling it to them. The iPad feels a little snappier but you aren’t missing much. I just like new things & saw an easy way to downgrade from the 12.9” to the 11” pro since I have kids and it’s an easier form factor for me.
I'm still running my 2018 ipad pro because there has not been a reason to upgrade given the software. Battery is showing it's age, will probably grab the next ipad mini that comes out.
Apple will never make the iPad capable enough to really replace the Mac. If they did, they’d kill sales of the Mac. That’s all there is to it.
It’s weird that this super capitalist TH-camrs would even ask for it. I suppose it makes more content. They want a MacBook they can hold in there hand. Ok you’ll get it but it will cost 5000 dollars for the base model. But they don’t care about that at all.
Shareholders would be highly concerned if Apple executives did this, as it would threaten a lucrative product line. Why change something that is working. Please don't take the risk MS did with W8 and their hybrid tablet/desktop that made them irrelevant in the tablet market.
Rubbish. This thing costs double the MacBook Air once you’ve added the peripherals. Many people would still go for that, but some would spend the extra for iPad Pro if it was a viable alternative. So Apple would still make more money. The margin on a $300 keyboard must be huge. We just want then to fix the features they already delivered to make the thing usable as a laptop replacement.

@@gregorymoore2877A tablet/iPad is more transportable + you don’t have a « native » keyboard cost like you have on a pc. You can choose a very good split ergonomic keyboard. You can take pictures more easily with the back camera. You have Face ID. You (now) have a better screen than on most or all computers. Overall, it’s just more modular/transportable and people like this. I very much like this too, but unfortunately iPad OS is still too limited to make me want to make the switch from my MacBook Pro. If iPad OS was better for programming I would have switch since there would be no reason to have a Mac for me, except maybe for the slightly bigger screen.
I was honestly expecting them to do something wild between the new iPad & Apple Vision Pro. Since you can’t use the Apple Pencil with the Vision Pro, it would be so wild to use the iPad as the input for that and being able to draw/3d model in a spatial space… or maybe give use tools to do that!

The Air is definitely the best overall value. iPad 9 or 10 is the best price. I use the 9 and there is essentially nothing the 10 does that the 9 doesn’t. But I can’t do anything serious without it overheating, so I can definitely see where certain things would benefit from a better chip.
I guess for some people a car is just a car and getting the cheaper one as long as it works it’s the same (not a car enthusiast but I am an iPad enthusiast).
Three reasons I think they didn't put macOS on the iPad this year. 1 - It wasn't yet software wise, they just didn't have enough time to get it finished. 2 - they announced SO MUCH this year that they wanted to save it for next year to keep the hype going. 3 - It's really all about money. They get you to buy an m4 mac this year and an ipad next year. I still think it's coming.
No one likes the Magic Mouse. My girlfriend who has always had Mac’s opted for using a standard mouse over the magic one that matched her iMac. I am uncertain she even knows where she placed the Magic Mouse. It is that bad.
Is it really magic mouse? How magic do you have to be that bad haha. I seen that you even have to charge it upside down. Whatever they were on when designing it I want some!

I Bought one and my carpel tunnel throbs when I use that thing. I had to buy another “cheaper” mouse but that is significantly better ergonomically than the Magic Mouse.
It’s actually an amazing mouse as far as accuracy and the touch triggers. Especially using a glass mousepad. It literally just floats effortlessly. I think the issue is that some hand sizes, like very small or very large have pain points. But there are some great third party adapters that make them more ergonomic for those people.

@@gregorymoore2877 There is a third party that turns the Magic Mouse into the same profile as the Logitech with a silicon grip, but still preserves the touch gestures. Pretty cool if you add Better Touch Tools to the mix as it actually gives you more touch triggers and you can design your own custom ones.

Both Craig Federighi and Greg Joswiak made it very clear this week that the iPad and Mac are not merging. Yes, both devices will have powerful engines, but Craig Federighi made it clear that Apple wants to give the iPad (including the Apple Pencil) the best tablet experience on the market.
Apple knows that the iPad meets 80% of the computer requirements and leads the tablet market. For high portion of computer users, the iPad meets their needs fully.
Just saying, but just because the calculator app is on the iPhone too along with the iPad, isn't a silly thing. If you're in college, most college campuses (if not all) won't allow you to have your phone out during class. This is why having it on both devices isn't a big deal.
Certainly more comfortable in a bigger screen… even drawing can be done on iPhone but a huge difference to do it in a bigger screen.
Math notes is useless for college maths though. It is stuck at middle school level at best.
Just get a good engineering calculator like TI-84, they are not that expensive.

You are completely right. I was going to buy the M4 iPad Pro, upgrading from 2018 model, but with this approach to iPadOS development from Apple, I am not doing that, ever. Looks like my iPad Pro is going to be my last ever iPad.

I won’t buy a new iPad until Apple fixes the file management bottleneck that chokes the iPad for serious transfer of multiple files and large files. I love being able to touch the screen and use a pencil, but I am order of magnitude more productive on my MacBook than I am on my iPad with Magic Keyboard. I’ve tried to live iPad only and I’ve tried really hard, but I can’t pretend like iPad file management is okay when it isn’t.
Thanks for giving a voice to those of us who are frustrated with Apple’s clear design disconnect.
I love my iPad with the M4, and I love it as a tablet. The past two keyboards give false hope of it becoming a laptop, but for less money you can buy a MacBook Air. When you say people are disappointed, I assume you are speaking of TH-camrs.
I assume they talk about people who don’t like iPad. iPads can improve but they want to buy a touchscreen MacBook… or why they don’t praise the Microsoft Surface, it seems to be what they want.
IMO the iPad is extremely underwhelming. I have the m4 as well, and it's neat but not very useful. It's definitely one of the least versatile/valuable products in Apple's lineup. Aside from the Pencil, there is essentially nothing that the iPad can do that an iPhone can't.

M4 iPad is clearly an overkill, but still, iPad Air and Pro by themselves are not just "TH-cam machines" - ppl saying this just have different needs in terms of devices to own. Like, my friend replaced his old macbook with iPad Air M1 and was completely satisfied with using is as a decent replacement. That's what he actually needed: portable, powerful for daily tasks like browsing, mobile gaming, working with documents and other stuff. I also have a friend who uses M2 iPad Pro as her main and only artist tool for pixelart, animation and usual 2D stuff (working in indie gamedev). Pros and Airs are, in fact, pretty niche - we just often forget about our real needs, and strive for the most shiny toy out there simply because it's the best. I doubt iPad will ever get a normal OS (as if mac OS was normal ha) - it's just a different form factor somewhere in between.

I think you have a device that I would dream of having, and I think that device is a beauty, people ask for MacOs but the Macbook is already its division for it, I understand that Apple's mistake was installing a chip that was not You can take advantage of it, but if you look at it in terms of longevity it is the best you can buy, as I repeat if you need MacOS, buy a Macbook.

I own an iPad Pro M4 11”. The device is thinner than my previous M2 and A12Z Pro. It’s less heavy in weight than my previous iPad Pro’s. The M4 chip is insanely powerful (equal to an M3 Pro chip!). It’s great to have finally hardware accelerated ray tracing. And the screen.. my oh my. I’ve seen many devices in real life and owned many, but the Ultra Retina XDR is the best one I’ve ever seen. So, I have a piece of aluminum with glass that outperforms desktops and laptops, even Apple MacBook Pro, but all these new features aren’t utilized. Only a few apps benefit from the extra horsepower. At least, that’s what you would think if you run Geekbench 6 on M4 and M2 iPad Pro. Both CPU and GPU are a lot better than M2 but I had them side by side and there’s literary no difference whatsoever in the real world. I was hoping that iPadOS 18 would turn things around for iPad Pro (not only the M4, but also the older models), but unfortunately, it doesn’t. I don’t want AI powered garbage and a stupid calculator that I will use probably once a year. And about Apple Pencil Pro.. I’ve bought one, of course because Pencil 2 isn’t fricking compatible with iPad Pro M4, and all the new features are gimmicky imho. Barrel Roll: twisting my fingers to a painful position, Haptic Feedback also doesn’t provide a lot of value it’s unnecessary, squeezing the Pencil looks nice when you have it day one, only to left disappointed because the majority of apps don’t support this feature. And now the big on. Find My on Apple Pencil!! Yes!! Well, no. Good luck trying to find that Pencil without the ability to play a sound and the lack of a U1 chip in both the iPad Pro M4 and Apple Pencil Pro. I mean, common Apple! You can do better than this. Way better. The only thing that Apple focus’s on the last decade is to make more profit. For the rest they don’t care. Shame on you, #Apple

"Quick Look" with the space bar on "Files" is the function I miss the most. It's incredible that iPad doesn't allow to preview files. And that iPadOs 18 doesn't have the Journal app....Very disappointed about this "upgrade"
Every marketing decision Apple makes is prioritized with the desire to sell hardware. Move the iron. Impress people with thinness, weight, brightness, speed. Software comes a distant second. And Apple isn’t great at software. OS layer is ok. But apps, usability, workflows, User Experience are not Apple’s strength. Perhaps someday they will figure out a MacOS version running on iPad will generate more sales and market share. But I doubt they will be that bold. I wouldn’t call Tim Cook a visionary. And he sets that tone for the entire company. He’s also not a risk taker. He’s a slave to the Wall Street quarterly numbers problem all big US companies face. He doesn’t have the charisma of Steve Jobs who could sell Wall Street on almost anything he wanted to do.
The entire WWDC was a total disappointment! I watched in disbelief what they were talking about (SMS, Emojis, calculator, games...)! It was clear that Apple was ashamed of all this as they had to fill presentation time with something. Even the legendary jokes of Craig Federighi seemed pathetic and inappropriate. You have nothing to present and you make jokes as if it's the best of times?! I bought an iPad Pro 4M just because I expected they would definitely present suitable software and that we would no longer have an expensive touchscreen laptop running iPhone software on steroids. Mac OS was a total disappointment (nothing new), iOS is an attempt to copy some functions that SAMSUNG has been offering for a decade. After WWDC, I'm seriously considering completely forgetting the old and senile Apple, selling all my devices, and switching to the dynamic Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and finally not waiting for Apple to copy next year! I think Apple is dead in terms of ideas, they have no innovations that made them famous and only want profit.

Annoying for the consumer to have to carry 2 devices (laptop & tablet), when one device that can do both can save 1-2 kg in weight.

The ergonomics for the magic mouse is anything but perfect. Floating the hand above the mouse is RSI central. This device is their biggest flaw when you look at the design and the charge port location.

He's not trying to make iPad limited, Apple makes a bit more money from iPad when you include accessories. iPad is also a great device for consuming Apple services like Apple TV+ and Apple Music.

To play music in background on iPad or iPhone:
1. Open TH-cam on Safari (not TH-cam app)
2. Play your song, then open another app (the music will stop, it is normal)
3. Swipe the control panel from the top right side corner and hit play button
4. Enjoy the music in background from TH-cam ;)

It is crazy to see how limited the iPad is yet has superior hardware (OLED screen and M4). I do love the new iPads though. Man they are fresh.
Improved Stage manager, Mac mouse cursor support, improved Mac OS file management, external SSD eject support. That’s about it for me.
All they needed to do this WWDC was add an actual functioning drag and drop iPad OS file system to iPad this year and it might've been enough to save the sales of the new iPad Pro. Yet they couldn't even attempt to do that. It's sad and pathetic at the same time since Apple makes the best tablet on the market yet couldn't care less about it at this point.

There is a clear divide between "mobile" OSes like iOS and iPadOS and desktop OSes (which for decades have been the standard-bearer for professional workloads), and when you market a tablet as a "PRO" product as in..a tool for getting professional work done, having artificial software limitations like the ones iPadOS is just not acceptable.

@@RobertDunn310That’s where you’re wrong. Lots of people use iPads for professional purposes. The iPad can do 90% of what a Mac can do. A Mac can do 90% of what an iPad can do. Try doing art on a Mac. It’s quite possible, but it’s harder. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. Macs are not the end-all-be-all of productivity since there are things you cannot do easily on a Mac that are easily done on an iPad, and vice versa. People don’t wonder why Macs can’t always replace iPads but insist iPad do 110% of what Macs do.

I haven’t upgraded my iPad in a few years, the only reason I upgraded a few years ago is because of some QC issues Apple wouldn’t actually fix with the original iPad Pro usb-c redesign (made 2 warranty claims and the QC flaws occurred again)
Since the new upgrade has been great for me and I see literally no need for another one. And all these points you just pointed out just confirms I don’t need any further hardware upgrade lol. However your points on lack of iPadOS feature drops also depressed me as I feel these things are just not getting the care and love they deserve from Apple. Why call it a pro device when it doesn’t do anything remotely as close to a MacBook Pro? What a sad day to be an iPad Pro owner. Guess at this point if I were in the market for an iPad I’d just go get a normal one lol the pro label is just a fake label that actually stands for premium.
