    Great video! I’ll be using some of these techniques.
    You should zoom in on the SSL when making moves so it’s easier to see what’s being adjusted. I don’t really need to see the channels when making moves.

    I tried the demo for this plugin earlier this week. I could see myself using this over the 4000E on certain songs. I'll watch out for a sale and might be getting it.

    Never thought to use the shadow hills on the bus for the drums….really adds a 3D effect as well…..have you ever chosen different channel strips for different instruments? And if so….how does that seem to work for you.

    Great, thanks for that Joe, I think I am getting it now, one thing with all these virtual channel strips, what is the optimal signal you feed them all averages? I am guessing as its based on analog, your at -18db? and I noticed the meters are green up to 12, is that your maximum, it gets confusing with the VU input verse the dBu output scales and what you feed into it gain-wise, so that affects the compressor and harmonic distortion stuff in there, It feels like sometimes you just use the force and hope for the best, but I have always wondered what the input signal should be db wise (I also just average RMS too)

    Good evening / morning Joe Carrell, I'm building a SSLJ9000 Logic template, trying to emulate that sound. I was wondering if the master Buss should have the SSLJ9000 on it? Please advised here thank you

    Joe can you do a video on setting up the “channels” in the console for a template. It’s not really clear in the docs that I can find. Also what the ABCD at the top references. These plugins are detailed. On an analog board you are wiring physically the channels which is easier to grasp the concept. Cheers!

    Have the mix & master bundle.All the SSL console's are amazing.Only thing I'd say is keep the level's consistent when bypassing & engaging the plugin.I always think thats a bit of a cheat with plugin demo's on youtube.

    • @Skkyyyyyyyyyyy
      @Skkyyyyyyyyyyy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not a cheat if you know what you’re listening for. If you’re a fool who simply thinks volume = better, well you shouldn’t be mixing music.

      Thanks for watching. Two thing to keep in mind. 1) The additive eq will make things somewhat louder naturally. 2) The auto make up gain from the compressor within the SSL circuit adds volume. No gimmickry here just The circuit doing what the circuit does. Actually the make up gain built into an SSL circuit is one of the beloved features of the compressor. It doesn’t just get louder it gets better. I would hope most of the audio engineering crowd would clearly hear the added punch and Clarity within the before and after.

    Why would you fill in music while Joe Carell is talking? it's a an audio plugin software you're trying to promote and not a washing machine. That horrible "library" music in between kept on resetting my ears! Dreadful creative decesion of an outstanding product.

  • @FrancisBourre
    @FrancisBourre 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Thanks for the video, but please remove the elevator's music behind your voice next time, it's really hard to focus on what you say and what you play.

    • @InTheMixJoeCarrell
      @InTheMixJoeCarrell 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Francis Bourre elevator music? Ouch I produced that track for the latest Chase Goehring album. 😂😂. It’s called “Stepping Stones” maybe you will want to stream it so my next royalty check is better? 💰 Thanks for watching Francis. Have a good weekend. ✌🏼

    • @FrancisBourre
      @FrancisBourre 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@InTheMixJoeCarrell That was not my intention, and there's no music hierarchy imho, but there's sometimes music not played in the right context. "Elevator music" means music with not enough volume to be listened to. It's mainly used to create a sonic background to prevent embarrassing silence. In this case it creates distraction and prevents to focus on what you say and even more on what you showcase sonically. Just my 2 cents. Have a good week-end too.

    i dont eq tracks in iso unless i hear a glaring problem
    however, i suppose that mixing mostly nashville pop means that you will do very similar things with every track in most tunes, anyways.
