"The Master's Fighter" sounds like the title to, like, a fighting game published by Square with an RPG system and shit, with a titular Master being the guy you fight for in the single-player campaign. Like Tobal or something.

13:45 has his copy Kain, 1997; his face looks like his nose is not really attached and his mouth is hardly visible; the gray lines on his pants look ugly compared to Geese like it doesn't really blend with it; his fight portrait has his hair going down to his neck but the actual character sprite has it squared up

It’s worth noting that for a while, Korea banned the import of Japanese media, so I speculate that many Korean game developers tried their hand at creating their own versions of Japanese games to fill those niches. This is probably why so many rip-offs exist imo.
But some companies like SNK did work with Korean companies like Viccom to publish their games there and to localized some things. For example The Last Blade was called The Last Warrior in South Korea and all of the Japanese characters' names were changed
@@pablocasas5906 The second half of my speculation that I didn't mention is that it just created a culture of copying. That's not to say, however, that all copies are bad. DJMAX may be derivative of Beatmania, but the amount of originality in the series transcends that to form a unique identity.
@@BinaryHedgehog1 yeah, about copying, a Korean company developed a rhythm game called Pump it Up which was clearly inspired by Dance Dance Revolution but it gained a huge following in other Asian countries and in Latin America

The sprite work on this one is actualy pretty impressive. It looks like shitty stable diffusion pixel art a quarter century before stable diffusion existed.

true. i mean if u get that frusterated at a game good or bad quality it should at least have endings for the roster hidden characters something to offer for ur troubles. Virtual Fighter 4 was good, but there were no endings 0.😒
Correct, I still remember being pissed as a kid after beating a game on this list called Deadly Arts only to have the credits immediately role, felt like I had just wasted a couple hours of my life.
Effectively, endings (as cheesy or meh as they could be) can be a redeeming feature even if the game has..basically nothing else.

I would like to nominate Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story for this series. A movie tie in that was released on just about every system available at the time, it was a hot mess of a game that played like crap.

It doesn't have to be SPECIFICALLY in The Worst Fighting Game, but I'd like Matt to try that game out, because even after playing it many times before, I can't really decide if the game is good or not.
At least it has one of the scariest final bosses I've seen in a fighting game.
I remembered being unable to beat the final boss no matter how hard I tried.
I've never heard of GuileWinQuote until today, but that was honestly one of the best cameos in the history of TH-cam.

yeah he only started making videos 2 years ago but he has quickly become one of my favorite fighting game youtubers. I love how he covers obscure and less played fighting games. highly recommend him!
Yeah, my overall reaction was "I mean, it doesn't look so bad for something that surely came out in 1993 ...What do you mean it was a PSX game from 1997?!"
Also, just like the characters, even the backgrounds seem to be assembled from those of other games, so I'm legitimately surprised SNK and Capcom didn't sue.
I mean that would require them to actually be noticed and given they released at a Time when games like Tekken 3 existed, I'm gonna assume they kinda weren't.

T-660 looks like mini Freddy Krueger, but most of his attack animations are just Blanka's.
The way the title is on the cover and title screen really makes it seem like they wanted to name it "The Masters Fight R" with R presumably being "remake".
I'm not sure that'd be a better name, but it'd certainly be easier to say.
The crust on those sprites reminds me of that Korean bootleg version of SF2 for DOS, where the sprites seemed to have been cut out of photos taken of the real game.
I still can't get the hang out of that name, The Masters Fighter, feels, i don't even know how to describe.
If they corrected that Engrish to "My fist... this curse... this destiny!" Namco or Capcom should steal that

Hey Matt, do you want a really, REALLY BAD contender for a show? Then I recommend you to play "Boxer's revenge. Moscow criminals" (rus: Месть боксёра. Московский криминалитет), a Russian fighting game from 2007, that managed to get 3 out of 100 by some journalists.
I got on a PSX import kick a few years ago and bought Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer after having some fun with it in MAME (and since the Masami Obari designed characters all seemed inspired by his Fatal Fury anime work). The Playstation port really reminds of Masters Fighter with the rough sprites and so many missing animation frames it makes it hard to tell what's going on. Might be another good candidate.
If Masters’ Fighter is too difficult to say, just call it “MF’er”.

I still think some of the fighting games they released for the Hyperscan need to step up to this series. There were mutliple attempts including an X-Men fighter and one about Intergalactic Pro Wrestling. Seems up your alley.
Thanks for cover this game, I'm part of a group of friends that love to investigate all the sprites that were ripped off for make this "marvelous" game, as you said Gamp is still a mystery to all of us we almost reached the conclusion that is the only original fighter in the roster but we know this can't be true, as long the female fighter J she's a rip off of Mai Shiranui from Fatal Fury 2, I hope that someone who read this and help us to finally discover what character/characters were used to create the infamous Gamp.
Gamp uses many animations from FFS Geese. His idle seems to be inspired by FF1 Terry. I can't remember who had that stupid twirling kick, but it's not something difficult to produce anyways.

@@krodmandoon3479 they did but it was for 1 buck from some guy who burns CDs and writes the games' names in sharpie in the back of someone's comic shop, and the game comes with an extra intro from the pirates who ripped the ISO originally.
It's got that big cheapo pirated ISO vibe.
i would make a joke about how this is one of those games you find on a really crappy latam market......but we here we worship KOF so even the crappiest, cheapest store would have an HD version of KOF 98 at best
A fighting game having some characters that are inspired from something else is nothing new, but there's taking inspiration, and then there’s flat out ripping it off.

For a moment, I thought Fighting Mast-.. oh sorry! "Masters Fighter" was going to beat the others like Expect No Mercy, Criticom and Rise of the Robots as the worst fighting game. Showing once again we have a *LONG* journey ahead of us. Lord help Matt.
That description sounds like something that was written in Korean then machine translated to Japanese then machine translated to English then machine translated to Urdu and then back to English.
Considering it came out in the 1990s. Any amount of Machine translation would result in that. I'm serious. Machine translation has gotten significantly better even compared to 10 years ago.
This game looks ROUGH as FUCK. Also Mishell also reminds me of Marian from the Neo Geo Double Dragon game.
It's amazing to me how much the graphics look like old Newgrounds parody flashes. I feel like I'm looking at the rejected material from Eva4 Sim Date RPG with those win screens.

Sometimes I like to play a good fighting game while hearing about the bad ones; especially on The Worst Fighting Game. Right now this game makes me want to play an old SNK fighter. In fact, The Art of Fighting is the only game that I haven't played yet.
The original Art of Fighting is kind of weird, it feels very floaty, the constant zoom in and out gets annoying and, just like the original Fatal Fury, the punches don't feel as if they connect like in Street Fighter II, not to mention the game is hard as hell. Still, AoF is pretty revolutionary for introducing the Power meter, taunting and Super Moves, though pulling the Super Death Blows is very difficult. I'd say Fatal Fury 2/Special is where SNK managed to make a game similar to SFII
You're not missing out on much with AOF1 imo, it has aged pretty poorly.
@@pablocasas5906 The first AOF did have taunting, and it served a useful purpose - draining the proto-power gauge to make the other guy's specials weaker.
@@cqmorrell I did mention taunting, but yeah, it's kind of annoying that in the first AoF you're not allowed to do special moves if your Power Gauge is not almost fully charged, don't know if SNK did it for balancing purposes but it makes it a bit frustrating. Not to mention that the Super Death Blow move has to be obtained by beating a Bonus Round, and even then it not very useful since it hard to pull off in a fight. The other thing I forgot to mention about AoF is that the characters show damage during the fight, but that's merely a cosmetic change and it probably meant the artists had to make a total different set of sprites, something that they repeated in AoF 2 but abandoned it in Path of the Warrior: AoF 3. The only visual change they kept were the clothing damage effects after a Special K.O defeat, in KoF '94, '95, XIII, XIV and XV King and Yuri get their clothes damaged if they're defeated with a Special Move

This series is like crack to me and inspired my decision to beat arcade mode with every character on Ultra Street Fighter IV (again).

Apparently, Master’s Fury used to be lost in time until a ROM for it has been found a few years back. Not just the characters in this ripped off others from many better fighting games by Capcom and SNK, but its title sounds a little too similar to Fatal Fury, while the PS1 remake that is Masters Fighter sounds like a clone of The King of Fighters upon the first time I read it, though the logo looks more like it ripped off Street Fighter II’s logo.
Also, who is that girl at 1:56 while you mentioned that everybody ignored Master’s Fury?
