Foxy Roxy's shoulders hurting after carrying this game for almost 30 years
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭
LOL
It's one of the side effects for having big boobs.
She was a the waifu furry fetish gal lol
Her highly developed chest muscles help bear the load.
This kinda looks like a Chester Cheetah fighting game that lost the license at the last minute.
I honestly thought that cheetah character looked a lot like him...
Now that you mention it...ouch lol.
HA
...I can see it.
There's probably an alternate timeline where that happened but Shaq Fu didn't have Shaquille O'Neal in it.
It looks like it would be in one of those websites that posted free arcade games in the early 2000s.
"Are there real-life nations in this universe?!"
Yes--in fact, Foxy Roxy's backstory and ending even explicitly mention and show that she's from India and also a politician when not fighting. We even know her real name, Indhra Prashmet.
The video even briefly shows that Prince Leon is the prince of Kenya in his profile.
I'm both impressed and frightened that you know so much about the Brutal Paws of Fury lore.
@@allegedlyfalse6779 to be fair most of that shows up in this video while text is scrolling.
maybe this should've been a movie or tv show instead of a game.

I swear, nearly every time there's a fox character in a cast of anthros, the creators can't seem to resist making her a fox in the *sexy* sense as well.
Well, "Vixen" is also slang for a sexy woman, so... yeah.
@@TheArceusftw Kind of weird that sexy girls have been called "foxes" or "vixens" for a long time. Just like men are called "bears" or "stallions".
There is a whole psychological study on why cats and foxes are so easy to sexualize for artists
@@MannyTheButtsmith Source?
@@elliotgabriel4580
I'll try to dig it out but i cant promise much cuz it was in a very old tumblr thread by weeb psychology students regarding cat girls and fox girls in anime after someone complained on why are they the prime target for sexualization, at first they were trolling and it quickly devolved into a serious study.
Man i miss that side of tumblr pre-purge.
The worst offense of Brutal: Paws of Fury is that it, in fact, did not have a Furry Meter.
Bet the mugen fan remake did
At least Bloody Roar has a furry meter.
@@BladeDevil Furry? Yeah, the first recorded instance of furries being called “the furry fandom” was in 1983, and furries existed before that point as well.
Hell, even the “father of manga,” Osamu Tezuka, (the guy who made the style most manga/anime draw from today) was secretly making furry transformation pornography before then.
@@BladeDevil No, it did not. False condemnation for not paradoxically calling upon an ill-considered slang term which was years away from seeing wide-spread use was all part of the joke.
@@EatWave I wouldn't say "furry" is an ill-considered slang term. It's just the "fur.lifestyle" degenerates that made it gross.

Man, the meme seems even dumber after being explained. Also, I think it has been misused a lot.
This is hands down the best use of this meme to date.
I hope Matt goes to check out Xenophage: Alien Bloodsport. It's a PC exclusive Mortal Kombat wannabe from 1995 where you can unlock Barney the Dinosaur as a playable character. It also has terrible AI, awful controls and broken colission detection. I think it really is a contender.
Please do this, it sounds ridiculous
The intro cinematic of this game is also hilariously bad.
I remember this DOS game being included on some retail Apogee discs as part of a demo sample. It had "flambé" finishing moves! It is on Steam and archival places so won't be tough to come across.
It's rough but at least it has special moves. I still actually have the CD for that game. I'd rather play that than Rise of the Robots.
I think i have that one on my steam account but i cant remember how i got it lol
This game deserves to be elevated a rank purely for the name Tai Cheetah.
That means it stays in the same category as Ninjabread Man for the Wii.

I was so into fighting games during this time that I actually used to rent this game frequently and enjoyed it, but coming back to play it as an adult is like torture.
Exact same experience. I loved the game when I was 6-7...trying it again 20 years later was a mistake !
Mee too. I owned that game for my SNES. I just loved Ivan because he was a bear and his heavy punch took 50% of life. Game has like zero balance. Some characters have stun look abilities and the others didn't. But it will always stay in my mind as one of the most awsomes game i ever played, even when only becaus it was the only fighting game i owned for the SNES. XD
Renting this game as a kid was one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made.
haha, what's changed since then? Just a realization of how bad the mechanics were?
I owned it on SNES back in the 90's and didn't mind playing it. Dare I try it again now !? Hahah.
Critcom came close to getting dethroned. I suppose if anything else, Brutal: Paws of Fury stands at the top of the 2D fighters (as opposed to Critcom being the worst of the 3D fighters) at the moment.
Could be fun to see where Street Fighter 1 lands.
@@DoomsayerStudiosConsidering how Cardinal Syn -Shenron- got on TWFG, I think you were referring to Dark Rift.
Roxy was the thing. I recall my friends watching me play this and cry out 'Why do you pick the fscking girl' - Well i picked it because it allowed you to beat the game. Roxy was capable of keeping up the pressure on your opponents, close the distance or keep away. Easiest character imho. The hardest one was the bear. I don't think i ever beat the game with that character but with the rest of the starter characters i did. Also as for worst games, there were others lost in history. Pitfighter comes to mind though. I don't quite get what was so great about that 'beat up sponge' experience.
Pit Fighter doesn't even come close to how bad Brutal is tho
If I recall correctly, taunting healed your fighter, but the healing was inconsistent. I remember the lion would heal a lot of health and other characters (I think the rat) barely healed any health.
The taunt indeed heals you and it's a crapshoot. It mitigates te difficulty a little while being painful to use when the computer is a merciless rusher on par with Galaxy Fight or Art of Fighting 2.
I think Ivan's style was supposed to be Combat Sambo, so yes, technically he would have been trained by the Soviet Military.
Matt, the video game version of CELEBRITY DEATHMATCH, it awaits judgement on this series.
“Yeah ScorePN has done a great video on both the PS2 and unknown PS1 version and RebelTaxi mentioned it in his Celebrity Deathmatch video but we need to see how it compares to Criticom and other fighting games if it qualifies as a fighter.”
@@Gatorade69 They should’ve gone for a Primal Rage/Clayfighter stop motion look and feel with the Celebrity Deathmatch game. Instead, the game was developed by the guys who also unleashed another abomination on the world, Simpsons Wrestling.
I concur. March that shit to the gallows.
I know Pan Pizza over at Rebel Taxi just did a big video about Celebrity Deathmatch and talked about maybe making a video on the game in the future. Maybe Matt and Pan could Collab for an episode.
@@spoileralertksua I like RebelTaxi/Pan and want to see a collab between him and Matt, but ScorePN would actually be the better choice since he’s done a lot of videos on Celebrity Deathmatch. Though have Pan make a voice cameo too. ScorePN also talked about the PS1 version which I never knew existed. And how there was GameCube and GBA versions announced but never made. Probably a bullet dodged since the publisher of Austin Powers Pinball joined forces with the developer of Simpsons Wrestling
Happy to see ScorePN is still remembered. Used to watch him a lot back his during DBZ/Mortal Kombat phase.
I remember a friend and I renting this for the SNES one weekend, I think we played it for all of 20 minutes before giving up and putting in NBA Jam.
A very wise decision
I remember playing this on a borrowed console as a kid. Foxy Roxy gave me several awakenings.
Wow I played the MUGEN mod back in the day and had a lot of fun with my friends. All moves came unlocked and there were pretty cool supers and specials tho. Only now I'm learning it was an actual fighting game made by an actual studio released on multiple platforms, and that it was apparently quite shit.
Ah, yes. Lola Bunny, Sally Acorn, and Foxy Roxy, the Creation Goddesses of the furries.
Don't forget Animaniacs' Minerva Mink, a cunning little sex-as-a-weapon minx who preceded Lola Bunny in WB's realm and time, and thwarted the advances of her more obnoxious, clingy admirers.
I guess Maid Marion would be their Hylia.
I'd argue that Gadget from Rescue Rangers had a part in this as well.
There's no way this game was popular enough for Foxy to be on par with those two in creating furries.
Don't forget about Omaha the Cat Dancer that degenerate mess.

Wait, what? You say something Matt? Wow, 20 minutes are gone.

Oh, Matt beat me to it. Fair play, McMuscles, point to you.
Street Fighter 1 might be painful to play, but I don't see it making headway on this list. It's hard to separate it from the wedge between our modern standards and understanding of fighting games, and simply being at least marginally the progenitor of those standards in the first place.
It was bad, but it was a novel bad for it's time.
Yeah, not really fair to hold Street Fighter 1 to a massive list of standards that didn't exist at the time. Street Fighter 2 completely rewrote the rules.
You know, I've always liked how Shaq Fu looked. The OG game had a nice style.
Indeed it does. One can tell it was made by talented people, just not the talent that makes a good fighting game

And I remember that wizard blue cloaked fighter had a move where he, like, covered the other fighter ( in the magazine they used the girl fighter ) in his cloak, showing his heart printed boxers at the same time, and covered them up. As a kid, I thought he was fuckign whoever he put in the damn thing! For years I could never find it, and thought I had fever dreamed it. And now, here it is.

Looks like TH-cam refused my comment - cause of the link maybe. I hosted the mugen Brutal remake. It was never finished and I lost touch with the creator, so eventually I took it down. After watching this video yesterday, I put the domain back up with the last WIP that was published - it's incomplete but playable, though you'll need DOSBox. Same URL as before.
You know, in this day and age were even bubsy bobcat can get a revival, I'm surprised nobody's tried picking up brutal paws of fury and remaking it to look like primal rage, giving it the combos that it desperately needs, and taking away the leveling system where your level ups are your special attacks.
I would not be against brutal paws of fury coming back if it had those problems fixed.
I'm all for this! And I'm definitely not biased...!
@@DoomsayerStudios I woiuld actually scream with joy if that happened!
Psycho Kitty already strongly resembles Bubsy Bobcat, but with much less happy-go-lucky and much more crazy-go-nuts, and no "!" sweater. Perhaps all of Earth's yarn has been stolen by the Woolies again, and he's blown a headgasket out of anger toward these worst of the worsted. If only somone could expand on this plot point to add not-quite-Bubsy to the next game's roster...what could possibly go wrong?
The thing is, I kind of love the design of this game.

After BPOF failed, Tai-Cheetah took his outfit and straw hat out and went to work as the mascot of Cheetos. He never looked back ever since.
All I remember from this game was Ivan could KO anyone in 3 hits. His damage was stupid high and I beat the game with just a few well placed hits each round.
I really hope you end up playing Human Killing Machine or Dangerous Streets eventually in this series.
Apparently, there’s an animated movie called Paws of Fury, with Michael Cera, but that’s a completely different thing and has nothing to do with this game.
Wait, Foxy Roxy is a real character from a real game? I remember seeing her in a MUGEN screenshot when I was in High School but I thought that was just a fever dream...
I mean, this sounds like an interesting concept! A fighting game with a roster of anthropomoric animal characters(That has nothing to do with Sonic)? Honestly, I'm impressed this isn't one of those cult classic games, or at least one of those games that fall into the catagory of "Only hardcore furries remember this exists".(I'm not judging.) Hell, a part of me wants to see if someone can crowdfund and make like an HD remake, or sequel to this!(Or at the very least; put Foxy Roxy in smash, if Sakurai won't promote Krystal to playable.)
Sadly, the game sucks.
Even if you truly liked it, even if it were a 'hardcore furries do this' kind of thing... it really suck.

Yeah, I've mentioned it before, but I really want to see you suffer.
The Fury meter from Shaq-Fu, I mean furry meter foreshadowed this game.
I remember playing this on the Sega Channel. Given I wasn't paying anything extra for the game, I found it acceptable, but even at the time I thought that the having to unlock your moves was BS. If The AIs only gained a move when you did, that would have been one thing.
I probably have some of those codes in the rubbermaid tub that my mother and I filled with games and cheat codes, though...
NGL I actually grew up playing this game when I was a kid and it was my favorite fighting game (even more so than Mortal Kombat). So, while I agree it wasn't the best fighting game out there, I still enjoy it a lot.
“I’d rather play Street Fighter 1”.
OOF. A more insulting statement has rarely been uttered about a fighting game.
The Worst Fighting Game? Rumble Fighter - and I can say this as someone who designed content for it.
I did like it then, though it was just my love of anthro critters that got me to push past how it didn't really work. I had it on the Sega CD first, the earning your special moves made me not care to even try and use them. Then I got the PC version of Unleashed and never could play it as for some reason the controls would be upside down on a controller.
I got a game that might be even worse: Rise of the Robots.
The main thing that I remember about this game is at the bear, Ivan, had a strong punch that wasn't all that slow, did half damage and caused stun. What does that mean? It means if you hit someone with it one time it'll take away half their health and while they're stunned you just hit them with it again and they die. This even works on the Dalai Lama. He is the only character that I beat this game with.
The bear is extremely over balanced and I would always pick that character when I played it with others. There was one move thst would take off a huge chunk of health. It ended up becoming both choosing the same character to cheese the game.
I remember playing this as a kid. At least it's not Rise of the Robots, right? Yeah... I feel confident in that.
Rise of the robots set the bar so low that actually hurt the capacity of western developer to make decent beat-em ups.
I checked and there is indeed some artwork featuring Foxy Roxy on a certain site. Only a few of them were decent though. I guess this has flown mostly under the radar.
No, it has not. Foxy Roxy is still a very popular heroine.
I love how he plays Kuma's Tekken 2 theme at around: 10:47

and then Roger's Tekken 2 theme at: 13:27
and then King's Tekken 2 theme at: 14:45
Yes, Matt, please play SF1! :)
Is this some sort of inside joke i'm not getting?
"The Best Piece of Street Fighter Art Ever Made" reminds me of those Ghanaian movie posters that show Mrs. Doubtfire putting a broom through a man's skull or the cast of Ferris Bueller's Day Off getting into a gunfight
I remember buying this from Die Hard in the 90's. Got the package, but it was time to go to work. The entire time working I was raring to crack open this game... and when I got home, booted up the ol' Sega CD, watching the amazing (at the time) animation... then getting severely disappointed at the gameplay.
Not only did they only add just one voice, but did you notice that it's just a clip of Bolo from 'Enter the Dragon' shouting "Dah"?
Nasty budget cuts, eh ?
At some point in this series Matt is going to have to face Dangerous Streets on the CD32. For that he has my sympathy.
I played this one on the SNES back in the day myself. I remember it being sorta decent, but maybe we had cheat codes to unlock the moves or something? The most "Unique" thing I remember, at least for this version, was each character had "kata" moves, which were basically automated combos of moves. I believe that got us through a lot of the AI matches.
What comes to mind is this scrapped fighting game called “Beast’s Fury.” It was to be a 2D fighting game starting various animal fighters like a martial artist kangaroo or a great white mobster. It would featured boss battles that transform as the fight progresses but it ultimately couldn’t meet the funding goal and was shelved.
Between the password/move grinding nonsense and playing this on the Sega CD, where this game took its sweet time loading, this game was one of the worst fighting game experiences that I had as a kid. It’s a shame, cuz a fighting game with funny animals could be good, especially if it didn’t take itself as seriously as Brutal and instead had a Looney Tunes/MGM slapstick vibe.
Yeah! Even because few of the moves were actually pretty looney. But just few!
7:12 'anyway, *Ivan* avoiding this for long enough'
I remember picking up the PC version of this from a bargain bin in the late 90s. I was also super disappointed, which is unfortunate since this was filled to the brim with potential. I hope this series eventually gets a reboot.
Wow. I played this as a kid and I remember getting so mad that I could never pull off any of the special moves. I remember even finding a gaming magazine and reading the special moves and trying to input them and they just didn't work. I learned today from this video that I had to unlock them, use a password on the character select screen, then I could use them? That's absolutely insane. Like absolutely bonkers. Whoever came up with that idea I hope never worked on another game again. If this had a save game feature it wouldn't be as bad, replayability as you said, but using a password each and every time you selected your character is maddening.
I had the SNES version. I'm so glad someone finally put the spotlight on how _bad_ this game is. Thanks Matt.
I am very much interested in seeing you weigh in on Street Fighter 1. For the record, you stated here that you would rather play that than Brutal. I agree with that sentiment, but SF1 still deserves a closer look.
"Ivan technique is Soviet Military". Probably, his fists are like an artillery barrage.
This series remains such a fun time :)
Someone saw this box art and got the entire idea for Kung-Fu Panda. Lol
Holy cats... You just reminded me that I owned the PC Street Fighter 2. That was... A game.
...Is it bad I thought Foxy Roxy's chest in the thumbnail were boxing gloves?
Ah yes: my very first fighting game.
I was just a baby playing this and Sonic the Hedgehog on my parents' Genesis in the beginning.
Now I am a furry who loves fighting games and platformers, so they probably made an impact.
There was a fighting game for MS-DOS my parents bought me as a kid called "Xenophage," by Apogee, just before they did Duke Nukem 3D. It has pre-rendered sprites of horrific 3D models, and a laughably bad CG opening. Might be good for this series.
"Shadow: War of Succession" is the worst fighting game ever made.
How did they get Kendo mixed up with Tae Kwon do? Kendo uses a sword and Tae Kwon do is hand to hand. Should've saved the name Kendo Coyote for a Samurai Shodown rip off.
I've always wanted to see someone remake this game in MUGEN or Fighter Maker as a legit - or at least attempting to be legit - fighting game.
Surprised to see someone actually did it, I would have figured after finishing Foxy Roxy, they'd have just lost all desire to work on the rest of the miserable cast of forgettables.
I definitely recommend checking out Revengers of Vengeance, Black Hole Assault, or Iron and Blood: Warriors of Ravenloft. They're games that just feel like they were slapped together with not much thought, to the point that a fight game novice like me can tell they're the least the genre has to offer.
It feels weird to have played all of these💀
