Derek I'm not sure if you read this, but I just want to say that I'm sorry you cant stop these skeletons from fighting. You cant stop them all.
A man was stopped two skeletons from fighting on a beach of a million fighting skeletons. An older man made comment you can’t stop all of them. The man turn and defiantly said “i can stop this one”
He can’t stop them all, but at least he can try.
The only skeletons we can keep from fighting are our own
Inside all of us is a skeleton fighting to get out. Sounds like have our own battle to deal with first.

Fun Fact: In Auto mode your monster's character model would change based on the stats that leveled while running through it. Higher speed would make them lankier, power would make them beefier etc. etc. It was a really cool design decision I'm shocked was never reused in any other fighter.

I would like to nominate Xenophage: Alien Bloodsport, for it's obscurity (and kick ass Bobby Prince soundtrack); but considering MS-DOS fighting games, I can't think of anything worst than Tongue of the Fatman, that's not just stinky, is putrid. I'd imagine the worst fighting game is one that exists in the early years of gaming before Street Fight and Mortal Kombat set some standards, where everything was up in the air and nobody knew what they were doing, that's the first place I would look into.
One thing I'll definitely say about Tongue of the Fatman, is that at least the cover is about as good as the game itself, so at least it's not misleading in the presentation department.
For once, judging by the cover isn't entirely pretentious.
So basically the developers behind this game are possibly crazy people who make crazy ideas based of their creativity, hence the craziness is why the game is on this show

Battle monsters was great as a kid. Hundreds of hours playing with my friends on that one. Im with you Matt

Amen. I was so happy to have found a copy of it at the flea market, fully intact, pristine case with the manual and foam rectangle.
Loved it. I remember the music being super atmospheric. I also remember Maximilian hated it when he tried it on Yo Videogames.
I like how this is essentially just a miniseries for Wha Happun
Battle of the Eras is still the worst, though Heavy Nova is a close second.
I remember hearing about a fighting game called "Girl Fight" that was pretty awful. I'd love to see that game covered here

"The Way of the Little Dragon" for the Amiga is one of the worst fighting games I've ever played, but I don't think there'd be enough meat to a video solely devoted to it sadly.
I think Matt would have to like, make an Amiga Fighter Grab Bag episode to properly cover the terrible breadth of Amiga fighters that Brutal is descended from

I love this series and I really like how you do the segment transitions, couldn't have a better music and visual combo to get the viewer hyped up as you bring back repressed memories of hard saved allowances and paper route money ultimately wasted.

God I hope you do Tattoo Assassins at some point. I just need this in my life. I actually got to play a surviving arcade cabinet of it at the Louisville Arcade Expo in 2019 right before Covid hit, and it will forever be ingrained in my memory.
I actually enjoyed Battle Monsters! My brother and I used to have a blast playing that game. And you're right, the creators did not give a fuck when it came to that game, and that made me like it even more!
I can't believe I've come across another person who likes that game, after all these years!

I know talking about good things on TH-cam doesn't attract as much attention, but I would honestly love to see a companion series to this where you go over all of the fighting games that you consider to be the best bang for their buck for whatever time they were released in.
I would love to! Every time I try to do something like that though, way less people seem interested. I think I'll still give it a go in the future though.

I saw a video titled "10 astonishingly bad PS1 games" and there were two fighters listed: "Simpsons Wrestling" and "Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi" which both sounds like they'd make great episodes of this series. Keep on rockin'

OMG, Killing Zone!! This was one of the first PS1 games I got, I found it in a bargain bin & never heard anyone talk about it. Ya it was corny & janky, but it was a good kind. In the 90's it was always a fun time with friends, although I suspect it wouldn't age well.
The auto mode was fun too, as your monster lvl up they would get a random visual change, like armor or something & it was a lot of fun leveling up the character up till you ran into that one BS fight (this mode was perma death)

I'm kind of surprised that this series has gone on this long without one of Incredible Technologies's fighters like Time Killers or Street Fighter The Movie The Game being featured. Then again, it's a bit more fun to see just how obscure this fighting game rabbit hole can go!
Man, Lost Odyssey, haven't thought about that one in a while. What a perfectly okay game.
Thousand Years of Dreams is what makes Lost Odyssey actually memorable, it's just merely fine outside of that.

When it comes to bad fighting games, should try out Deadliest Warrior. That game actually did have mid-fight dismemberment and was stupidly broken.
I knew this one would show up here eventually; these early PS1/Saturn 3D fighters were basically made for this show! That said, I know its kinda hard to get a hold of, but I still hope we can have Dino Rex on this show at some point.

KOF XII was a tech demo in package form.
Samurai Shodown Sen killed its franchise for a long time until the pretty good recent reboot.
XII was really rough, especially after how tight XI was and how utterly outstanding XIII ended up being, and then there was the wall juggles...
But it was more a collection of poor ideas and bad execution, not nearly a game worth being called "the worst". Hell, it's not even the worst KoF, I'd take it over NeoWave or maybe even 2001.

KoF XII/XIII would be more worth of a Wha Happun episode.
@@MagmaMKII At that point in time, it would be more of a deep dive into what was going on with the mysterious entity once known as "SNK" at the time. Every entry post KoF2000 is an absolute mess.
You SHOULD do an episode on Battle Monsters, that way we can actually have a game in the "Legit Good" category.
I'd pay upwards of 29.99 for a "Kal & Hal" spinoff game. If we can't stop skeletons from fighting, we can at least give these deeply underrated bony boys a second chance at video game stardom.
I forgot to mention this, I also had Killing Zone and Iron & Blood: Warriors of Ravenloft growing up.
This was a guilty pleasure for me when we rented it at my local Dollar video. My favorite character was the mummy with the stretching arms, and adds to my ever growing list of silly game grunts, including the "REECHURAH" announcer. I also learned about battle monsters after the fact, and agree it is wonderful.
I had to pause the video when the "Sadly, Uncle Derek could not stop the skeletons from fighting" while To Zanarkand was playing, I was absolutely losing it. I dunno if you'll see this so many months later, Matt, but I deeply appreciated and needed the big haha's I got from that.

I have Battle Monsters. That game is freaking awesome and incredibly fun to play. One of the better fighting games using digitized actors and stop motion after MK. And the enviroment and characters are insane(in a good way) It's a shame that we no longer get creative games like we had back in those days.
Consider the following: Street Fighter 1. Yes, _that_ Street Fighter 1 - the same Street Fighter 1 whose only home port in the 90s was on the TurboGrafx CD.

This was one of the first PS1 games I ever experienced. The ring outs on the sky stage blew my mind. I still own a copy I found later at a garage sale.
This was one of the first ps games I played. My cousin brought it over when he had just gotten it and I remember thinking it was kinda janky at the time but it was on playstation, so we played it. But yeah, this and jet moto were my introduction to the playstation
I don't know what I like better: the excellent Derek cameo, or the wholesome collection of clips of people saying "BITCH YOU'RE UP!!"

How about Fighting Masters for the Sega Gen? Every time you win, you'll have a heart attack with the ear piercing sound that plays. Some of the bit music that plays are anxiety inducing. More so than the 'Drowning Sonic' warning.

Have you played Rise of the Robots? It was made for 32 bit, but the characters had to stay on one side, the one side had to be the cyborg always, it only used one button on the joypad. It was a half hearted attempt! It bragged about 3d rendered characters, but it didn't have the engine to even consider it playable.
