  • It took a while to work out the steps as the instruction manual was rubbish. So, first attempt for this vid. And, I know it isn't a "park" symbol, no idea why I said that...!

    I read somewhere that if you cannot find launch control in the owners manual of the iDrive then it's not coded for it. All features and options that don't come with the car won't show up in the iDrive. I didn't bother doing it as I don't want to ruin the car. Can you check to see if you can pull up Launch Control in owners manual search in iDrive?

    Hi, i don't have sport + but i have steptronic (420d f36 2016) should it work right? sport+ is an optional, just need traction mode as you say right? or need som3 other special equipment?

    • @wussyd
      @wussyd  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. It seems to be the Sports+ that has the Launch Control so I don't think you will find it on yours unfortunately. Best way to check is the onboard User Manual as it is personalised for the features of your car. If you don't find it in the electronic manual, then it isn't available.

    • @dimmacommunication
      @dimmacommunication 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't get it. When do you release the brake? at which point?

    • @wussyd
      @wussyd  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a fair point. I didn't cover that, sorry. You need to release the brake within three seconds of getting the "Launch Control" words on the dash.

    • @bodrulm1
      @bodrulm1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      wussyd Do you aim for a specific RPM e.g. 4000? There must be an optimum that the system can calculate depending on the conditions of the surface.

    • @wussyd
      @wussyd  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bodrulm1 No, the electronics does all that for you. If you have the "Launch Control" come up on the dash, then the launch control system will regulate the engine speed and aggressiveness of the traction control for the surface conditions.

    • @MegaFregel
      @MegaFregel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simon Bøttger no all cars do it for safety reasons but you can turn it off in a bmw.
      And yes DSC OFF (stability control) means DTC ON (traction control) and is always better for acceleration.

  • @Tom_Selleck308
    @Tom_Selleck308 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Do all 330d F3× models come with launch control as a standard feature?

    • @wussyd
      @wussyd  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should be. As far as I know, it is available on all those with the Steptronic Sports Auto gearbox which does seem to be the standard option on the 330d. Best check is to search for Launch Control in the iDrive owners manual. If it is shown, it should be available.

    • @dimmacommunication
      @dimmacommunication 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jaden Park I think so :) people with old torque converter cars with no launch control used to brake boost the car to launch it.
      You press the brake pedal and the gas pedal for a sec and release it.
      I don't advise it tho.

    • @five1088
      @five1088 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      dimmacommunication mine is 2014 is it older torque converter than one in the video?

    • @dimmacommunication
      @dimmacommunication 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jaden Park Nope, it's still the ZF-8 gears right? but I think that not having the sport+ mode maket it unable to do this.
      You can brake boost as I said,but it gives the transmission a lot of stress, in extreme sistuations it can even break ,so be aware of it.

    • @MotionPlays
      @MotionPlays 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You have to have the sports transmission for launch control which is an option on most BMWs. Even though it's the same 8 speed ZF box for the normal and sports, the sports transmission has the flappy paddles on the wheel. Basically no flappy paddles then no launch control

  • @andyw3152

    • @wussyd
      @wussyd  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your accelerator is on the floor anyway, so you do just release the brakes. The electronics take the brunt and work out the most appropriate power and traction for the conditions.

    • @WeAre-ip5ud

People dont do the last two thats why they're diesel cars shift at 4,500 RPM... my car on a lauch will red line before shifting and its a diesel.

    • @sippe3985
      @sippe3985 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it puts huge amount of stress on the car. if you use this every day you will break your car. its intended to only use very occasionaly.

    • @sippe3985
      @sippe3985 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      some cars even go as far and say you can only use launch control 5 times after that you will void your warranty.

    • @lume.3887
      @lume.3887 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's fine for DCT or a non torque converter auto, but it puts huge stress on the torque converter, as it's engaged whilst your applying lots of power, and literally only the break is holding you back, you can see how the car will roll forward as the engine overpowers the breaking force, whereas with DCT transmissions, the clutch is disengaged and no strain is put on the drivetrain

However, I am aware that purists have a different view of Electronic intervention vs foot feel launch: Electronic launch can be seen as cheating. However, we BMW drivers need all the help we can get apparently, so all praise the BMW electronic gods.

      @Michael how do you figure? Let's just say you ran a 335 with a bm3 tune, catless downpipe, and meth I would say that would give u close to 100hp or more depending on boost. Stock m3's usually have about 100 more horse power then 335's just saying
