best carb video I have ever seen, detail was great HUGE help. Keep up the great work very much appreciated. Big fan from Canada, finally someone who takes there time and explains things right instead of rushing threw a job.
I have a 79 Monte Carlo, has a 350 in it, I love that car so much, I drive it once every week, I enjoy every time I drive it, I get a lot of respect from other people as well, I love G bodies a lot in general, we are G bodies united!
This brings back great memories of my 78 Malibu SS I had in college❤!!! The same transmission,,black interior red outside,,had 140 mph speedometer with trip and 8,000 rpm factory tachometer!!! Miss having it and my 1st late wife too it had a 400 small block V8 great memories thank you for sharing❤
I had a neighbor in the '70s who had a '78 manual tranny Malibu wagon. It was definitely a stripped down version, and I think it's the only manual G-body like that I have ever seen.
That's a great car for someone on a tight budget. Love the manual tranny too. Nothing like rowing through gears. Great series on the G-body my friend. The Q-jet rebuild video was excellent. Thanks for posting the videos and keep up the good work. Semper Fi!
I have a 1978 Chevy Malibu classic all Original got it off a used car lot in good condition. Had to get a new radiator in it and master cylinder put in. It had 59,100 original miles. It's had a 305 in it. 3 speed automatic. Beautiful car got it for 4,000. Runs great like it brand new!
Yup, I straightened it out with a piece of 1/4" copper tubing. I put the rod tip in the tubing. I very carefully bent it straight. Because it's brass, it didn't mar the tip. It worked great!
I used to daydream back in '78 about ordering a Malibu Classic coupe, 305, black, gold pinstripe, Sport wheelcovers, whitewalls, F41, 50/50 camel cloth front seat with dual center armrests, Special Instrumentation, AM/FM radio w/rear seat speaker, floor mats, tinted glass, body side molding, door edge guards, Deluxe bumpers, LH remote chrome mirror, cruise control, and that's it. I like the simple styling better than the Monte Carlo and to me the car is 'packaged' better--same interior space as Monte Carlo, with shorter hood. Never got one. I like the '78-only diagonal wraparound taillights and gold pinstriping around the piano black instrument panel trim.
Thanks for the ride. Sounds smooth. Just picked up a 4-speed set-up from a 78 Malibu complete (trans, bellhousing, flywheel, clutch/fork, original shifter and the complete pedal/linkage/bracket set-up). Now all I have to do is find the right G-body. Regal? Cutlass? Grand Prix? Malibu/El Camino/Caballero? Hmmm, choices, choices...
TargaWheels Hey very cool and thanks for the comment. Good luck on your swap once you find the right car. My 78 T-top Cutlass is for sale and it was already born with the chevy in it.
That is rare i love it! Ill bet that steering column is worth some $$. Never seen a manual lockout g body column. Side note.. i had my 83 grand prix i did a manual conversion on years ago, should have seen the looks from everyone at the cruise ins!
Your videos are very entertaining and informative .I'm rebuilding my quadrajet. The tip of one of the secondary metering rods is slightly bent. Should I try to straighten it, or find another one? Thanks!
Every manual transmission I’ve ever driven has had a handbrake-it would be tricky for me to get used to taking off from a stop on a hill with a pedal e-brake.
Hey GBODY, Im trying to install a new Rochester QJCARB on new 307 olds myself. Im really trying to learn this. Can you do a video? i really understand you and would benefit if I learn from you. Thanks Eric
Hey Eric, thanks for your message. I don't have a 307 right now to create a video you are requesting. I suggest you take a lot of pictures of your current set up so you know how everything goes back together.
OMG!!!! NICE CAR! i have a 5 speed malibu with a done 355 in her..... SOOO MUCH FUN! I should do a you tube vid of me just punishing my machine..... love it
amigo, quiero saber que caja de velocidad es...? es de camaro...? me gustaria que mi malibu sea asi quiero buscar la caja adecuada cual me recomienda...? ...................por cierto... saludos desde venezuela..!!!!
Just wondering...do you put any kind of additive in the gas when you put them away for the winter. I have an old Dodge and was thinking about the ethanol gas. I probably won't drive it much during the winter months. Thanks!☺
I have an 84 cutlass supreme with a v8 it's an automatic. would you recommend doing a trans swap or would it be a waste of time. please respond. Thanks!
I was bout to say carb or not it should hit second crank till he said it had bad gas lol but yea it don't matter if its 10 degrees out if it's got a massive cam and carb or not if ur timing and carb are set right it'll hit first or second time the motor turns over
Actually sounds like the throwout bearing, or front tranny bearing are going bad. Does that car have the factory posi rear end, and tach? I've had my 78 factory 4 speed one since high school. Had a 80 elcamino ss factory 4 speed, and a few others. If you can find a GM factory fork, buy it. it's good to have for a spare as the clip fails on them more often than not. Also, if you rebuild that tranny, do not use silicone on the front nose cone. Find a gasket or make one. The silicone will bleed into the fluid drain, starving the front bearing. Another good investment is if you can't find the rebuild parts for that ITS shifter, Hurst made a awesome replacement for it, which I have in mine. It's been discontinued, but there are some out there still.
was the round gauges stock for 79? i have only seen sweeps. i ask because i am looking at a 79 elco with a 3 speed saginaw manual and 200ci v6. that also has the same cluster as your malibu i am hoping to get come monday
I have a 1984 Chevy Silverado pickup truck it runs fine but I have hardly any power it just does not peel out anywhere even if the road is wet it will not spin tires what do I do?
Jentry Reed Install lower rear end gears with a position unit Your truck probley has 308s install 373 should get your tires smoking but at 55 your be running 2500 rpm it may use a little bit more gas but haul more ass!
+NJW1973 It doesn't have a tach but the stock ratio is 2:73. It runs maybe a little higher than your a 2:56 ratio found in these cars with an auto trans.
Classic G-Body Garage wow I thought a 3.08 was a highway gear , but those guys body different are so "low" . We're the guy body cutlass supreme considered a luxury car? I always had a soft spot for regal and malibus, but it's hard to find them in good shape for decent coin in BC Canada . I currently have a 90 lincoln mark 7 Lsc Se(luxury sport coupe ) in midnight black that was sitting for a few years. It uses the same 5.0l high output as the mustang Gt with the AOD 3 speed o/d , 3.23 limited slip rear end 4 wheel disc , and a sport tuned air suspension ( I'm converting to coil springs for better ride feel and don't have to worry about finding parts for the compressor /air dryer/lines and o rings ) to me I am not brand loyal. I am a mechanic and appreciate good cars/engines no matter the company . I drive a 12v mechanical Cummins first gen ram for simplicity and the Lincoln fox body will be my toy car. The mark 7s have a follwing like gm g body crowd but our aftermarket is not as big as g bodies, we adopt parts from sn95 or other fox bodies. Great channel I subbed.
I had a 76 camaro 350 4 bbl w a 4 speed Saginaw and the tranny lasted about 3. Months and the motor was stock went and found a muncie for it that one never broke that poor car took so much abuse powershifting and reverse to first burnouts the weak link was the Saginaw and I loved the whine of the muncie lol
Just to include a few more cars from the A/G-Body list from your video description: Buick Century (1978-81), Pontiac Grand LeMans(1978-81) and its sibling, the Grand Am (1978-80).....hell I'm pretty sure that you knew that....lol
Saginaw! Had one in my first car which was a 79 classic wagon. Learned to drive straight drive in that thing. Tore it up plenty too, that's how I learned to rebuild it myself. Got to where we had plenty of spare gears and synchros in the garage and when i broke something, I could jack the car up remove driveshaft, crossmember shifter and take trans out, pull apart replace and regasket and do the reverse in about three hours. All when I was a teen. Loved those days.
unreal how many people feel they know how to drive a car better than you. I drive it how I want to. The pedal isn't being pushed down so the clutch isn't slipping. My foot is barely touching the pedal.
That's just an excuse for a bad habit. ..if you take up the free play in the pedal, (very easy to do) it puts unnecessary wear in the TO bearing causing premature wear...there's no good reason to keep your left foot on the pedal....your car and your $$$
That's all good...now can you tell me approximately how many G body card were offered with a manual transmission, both three and four speed?..or maybe even a five speed?
The only way to find that out is to go through the GM Heritage Center and then they only provide a percent of the entire number offered that year. For example I asked them how many 78 Cutlasses were built with a 4 speed(because I own a few) and they replied with 200,000 built in 78 with .02% with a 4 speed. Either way they were very limited for 3, 4 and 5 speeds. If I were to guess based on my 26 years experience with these cars, under 1,000 built of each and in some cases under 500. The 78/79 Cutlass was the only Gbody offered with a 5 speed and it had an Olds 260 in front of it.

How much did you waste on gas
This brings back great memories of my 78 Malibu SS I had in college❤!!! The same transmission,,black interior red outside,,had 140 mph speedometer with trip and 8,000 rpm factory tachometer!!! Miss having it and my 1st late wife too it had a 400 small block V8 great memories thank you for sharing❤

Very nice ride and great Malibú!! I knew several ElCaminos with manual gear box and G bodies are marvelous!!
That's a great car for someone on a tight budget. Love the manual tranny too. Nothing like rowing through gears. Great series on the G-body my friend. The Q-jet rebuild video was excellent. Thanks for posting the videos and keep up the good work. Semper Fi!
Thanks Chris!
Cool ride! My father in law had a 79 Malibu automatic in floor with console and bucket seats. awesome cars.

Sounds like it would have been a nice car if you ordered it.
Man I miss my ‘81 Malibu classic. Love to get my hands on one with a factory 4 speed.
I found a 82 el camino with a manual transmission for 500 bucks didn't buy it cause no paper work your care is awesome man
Thank you

That is the Holy Grail ! I saw one as a teen in the mid 80s.. Always wanted one.. Great Friggin car !
Thank you.
Sweet ride. Glad it’s running well
thanks
I didn’t know these had Manuel transmissions. Sweet!
Yep very rare but plenty still around.
Great car. Always wanted a Malibu.
Subscribed. Please make more cold starts with this view! Love seeing your procedure,
Thanks. I have other cold starts on my channel.
You do! But this view is fantastic
Exact same interior, gauges and dash as my 78 Monte Carlo.
All of your cold start videos should be with this view. So cool to see the whole procedure. Got any more?
That is rare i love it! Ill bet that steering column is worth some $$. Never seen a manual lockout g body column. Side note.. i had my 83 grand prix i did a manual conversion on years ago, should have seen the looks from everyone at the cruise ins!
Yeah a rare car for sure.
Runs good really good
That's one rare ride!
I might be hearing things or it could be your camera picking something up, but do I hear some gear/bearing noise when you're accelerating?
Your videos are very entertaining and informative .I'm rebuilding my quadrajet. The tip of one of the secondary metering rods is slightly bent. Should I try to straighten it, or find another one? Thanks!
Thanks my man. You can straighten them out. Just do it carefully or it may break.
Awesome video! Do you mind me asking what camera mount/angle you're using to get that shot?
It was an old Flip Cam with suction cup mount.
I have a 3 speed saginaw on a 78 monte carlo is that one a direct fit what kind of shifter are you using
This is a factory 4 speed car with original shifter. Any factory Gbody set up will swap into your car.
Awesome car! Love the red interior! I would prefer automatic transmission though. I can't drive a stick to save my life! 🤣🤣
Thanks and you will learn.
Very nice looking car
Every manual transmission I’ve ever driven has had a handbrake-it would be tricky for me to get used to taking off from a stop on a hill with a pedal e-brake.
If you know your car well enough you don't need the brake. :-) I have never had to use one.
Such a smooth car
Hey GBODY, Im trying to install a new Rochester QJCARB on new 307 olds myself. Im really trying to learn this. Can you do a video? i really understand you and would benefit if I learn from you.

Just wondering...do you put any kind of additive in the gas when you put them away for the winter. I have an old Dodge and was thinking about the ethanol gas. I probably won't drive it much during the winter months. Thanks!☺
I just fill them full with high octane and they are always good to go in the Spring.
Classic G-Body Garage ok. Thanks a lot!
I have an 84 cutlass supreme with a v8 it's an automatic. would you recommend doing a trans swap or would it be a waste of time.
please respond. Thanks!
Nice looking interior dude
runs nice for a smog engine great find dude
I was bout to say carb or not it should hit second crank till he said it had bad gas lol but yea it don't matter if its 10 degrees out if it's got a massive cam and carb or not if ur timing and carb are set right it'll hit first or second time the motor turns over
Is it a stock Manuel transmission
yes
Glad you never once got on it, appreciate that in an 8 minute video.
I respect my cars and considering this one has been sitting for so long and first time driving it ever I needed to make sure things worked well.
+Classic G-Body Garage Meh
Sounds good, what ended and no trans are in it? Sounds like a rock crusher!
Derek Joon Thanks it has a stock 2:73 rear and the trans is a Saginaw.

Yes they were a factory option
Hey im looking for a 2 door malibu from 78-83 any pointers on where they rust and anything else I should know before buying one. thanks
2 door Malibu ran from 78-81. They rust on the quarters, doors, floors, trunk floors, rear inner wells, rear frame between the rear wheels and bumper
What is the red light on the dash? thanks! Great car, great vid!
Brake light. E-Brake switch needs adjustment.
Thanks
¿Model transmicion?
Factory Saginaw
Very nice addition to an already great collection. Is this a gauge car or idiot light car im looking to convert my idiot light 80 MC to gauges
Thanks and It's a gauge car.
Sweet Little gbody! now you can sell me the other malibu!
Why do you drive with your left foot resting on the clutch?
My foot is barely siting on the pedal, not even pushing on it. Habit I guess.
I have a 1984 Chevy Silverado pickup truck it runs fine but I have hardly any power it just does not peel out anywhere even if the road is wet it will not spin tires what do I do?
Jentry Reed how many miles it got?
Jentry Reed Install lower rear end gears with a position unit Your truck probley has 308s install 373 should get your tires smoking but at 55 your be running 2500 rpm it may use a little bit more gas but haul more ass!
Jentry Reed automatic ? Check your atf level if so
Turbocharged LS engine will fix your lack of tire smoke.
Very cool car
what transmission is that 4 speed. I put a Saginaw 4 speed in my 79 monte carlo
Saginaw
Jacob Jarvis googleGoogle
What RPM is that thing doing at 60mph in 4th gear? I'm curious..
+NJW1973 It doesn't have a tach but the stock ratio is 2:73. It runs maybe a little higher than your a 2:56 ratio found in these cars with an auto trans.

wow i didn't know does car come 4speed I'm trying to buy a 85 cutlass to make it 6speed
+fastlife250 250 Yes 78-81 Gbody had an optional manual trans.
What is the manual transmission model used by the Malibu?
Saginaw is the brand trans.
What gauge cluster is that like to put that my 78
Factory
Pretty rare I imagine!
Nice G Body and I like your cars to your party at your cutlass Pontiac can you buy a week in 1984 Lincoln four-door car in 2024 in July 1
Just to include a few more cars from the A/G-Body list from your video description: Buick Century (1978-81), Pontiac Grand LeMans(1978-81) and its sibling, the Grand Am (1978-80).....hell I'm pretty sure that you knew that....lol
crownroyale87 what is the omega? An A?
By any chance would know of anybody selling an 8.5 rear end for a gbody
Deyonne Bagby Not off hand but try gbodyforum.com or join my facebook group in the link within the video description below.

is the car 4sale
C'mon man, your wife ain't watching - Giv'er! [Canadian term for... GIV'ER!]
What kind of 4 speed is in that?
Saginaw
Saginaw! Had one in my first car which was a 79 classic wagon. Learned to drive straight drive in that thing. Tore it up plenty too, that's how I learned to rebuild it myself. sold?
Its not sold. I didn't have it for sale.
Miss my Iraquibu...
Woul you sell this Malibu I have the cash!!
Not selling this one. Too hard to find.
nice car
I miss the GM seatbelt tug.
We have a lot of this car in Iraq but 3 gear is not 4
You need to work on the carb tune with the right tune a carb engine will start just like a fuel ejected engine
Correct, the choke needed further adjustment.
I almost bought one of these new Wayback in the day. Ended up buying a Monte Carlo instead.
I got a mint 78 Malibu four door with 80k and she clean
Sell to me, LOL
She is my baby the paint faded u know how they are
Driving a old v8 with a manual gearbox makes me do the "megusta" face.
Man If you would be into selling it please let me know I would be more than interested in it!
I would so trade my 78 cutlass supreme brougham for that lol
That clutch pedal is not a foot rest...stay off the pedal unless changing gears !!!
unreal how many people feel they know how to drive a car better than you. I drive it how I want to. The pedal isn't being pushed down so the clutch isn't slipping. My foot is barely touching the pedal.
That's just an excuse for a bad habit. ..if you take up the free play in the pedal, (very easy to do) it puts unnecessary wear in the TO bearing causing premature wear...there's no good reason to keep your left foot on the pedal....your car and your $$$
i know exactly what you are talking about and none of that is happening
That's all good...now can you tell me approximately how many G body card were offered with a manual transmission, both three and four speed?..or maybe even a five speed?
The only way to find that out is to go through the GM Heritage Center and then they only provide a percent of the entire number offered that year. For example I asked them how many 78 Cutlasses were built with a 4 speed(because I own a few) and they replied with 200,000 built in 78 with .02% with a 4 speed. Get your foot off the clutch!!
Relax my man...haha. I have a habit of setting my foot on the pedal of my standard cars. Trust me I am not pushing at all.
Gonna be putting a throw bearing in it in no time take ya foot off that pedal
Richmond 5 speed
1975nova Nah its staying all original.
It's quiet lol
Yep, its not a race car. Its stock.
Not the hot set-up for the throw-out bearing for you to be ridin' the clutch like it appears you are.
Not riding it at all. Barely resting my foot on the pedal
What trans did this have?
Has a Saginaw 4 speed factory.
