I rarely see Land Cruisers from this era, but that's due to the fact that barely anyone around me bought them when they were new. The new for '01 Sequoia was Toyota's king.
GM was thinking quarterly at this era and not long term. Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Hummer, do not exist today because of this quarterly thinking. Should have started with what was shown as the H4 ( Jeep Wrangler sized roofless, Doors off type) would have buried the Jeep TJ, kept GM flush with $$, been in every neighborhood in America. Should have been a niche vehicle to sell alongside other GM. Cadillac-H2, Chevrolet-H3 Pontiac H-4. a halo product to bolster existing brands, drive walk in traffic, and allowed skilled salesmen to have had a shot. nope they dictated Proprietary Buildings, off road courses ect. too bloated, and their contract was always going to expire in 2009 with AM General.
GM got rid of the Hummer brand because the government stipulated it as part of the bail out due to its environmental perception with the administration at that time. The other brands were of their choice but the contract specifically states Hummer, even though their sales were actually really good. This is also why China didn’t allow their metal manufacturer to purchase it.
The h3 was basically a gmc canyon but with gigantic fenders. Only people I ever saw driving them were recently divorced early 40s women looking to catch a young dude 😂.

a 4 cylinder engine couldn't handle this weight regaring longevity. Also your car has a turbo. A twin turbo setup on a hummer can reach 600-700hp. Although its not a race car.
Gas was floating around $1.50-$2 on average 20 years ago which was a bit of a shock since it was the first time we saw (Or I had seen) prices hit that high. 5 years later, we hit $4

Rides soft on the highway unlike a jeep. Rolls over huge tree limbs on the highway at 70mph (ask me how I know). Safer when it snows and rains and floods than a car. And probably the most important reason I picked one up as my SUV is that it will hold its value till the end of times.
Hmmmm.
Now I know which car to review
Just showed up to watch this thing do a slalom course
Big, bulky, heavy, and expensive cost of ownership is what the H2 brought!
Don't forget the business tax write offs!
@@toyotaprius79GM knew what they were doing when they aimed for a weight over 6,000 lbs. Salesmen targeted small business owners and sold them on the fact that it was classified as a work truck, even if used primarily for personal use.
These used the same vortec motor as the silverado 2500, most of the suspension and mechanical bits were from GMs other fullsized trucks. Maintenance/repairs were actually relatively inexpensive for a capable offroad luxury vehicle.
My 2004 was pretty reliable, got 12.42mpg mixed on regular with 20inch wheels and 35inch offroad tires and I drive pretty hard. Towed my house trailer great, was excellent offroad. My biggest complaints by far were the God awful interior plastics and the electrical work was shoddy at best.
My H2 has been cheap to own. I've spent about 18k including the cost of the H2 over 3 years and can sell it for about the same so I'd be out zero. But its a weekend toy.
It's an utterly stupid and unnecessary thing but I'm glad it exists.
7k pounds, same tow capacity as the 94 2 door Yukon and Blazer .
One of the only things I need to help getting myself one of these is fuel prices at the station pumps go to 99 cents a gallon.
"it ain't light on its feet"
Neither is a rhinoceros
one of my favorite SUVs just because its the most American vehicle ever made 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🦅🦅🦅🦅
I like how they do t touch in its fuel mileage lol
Probably because gas was $1.59. So someone buying a Mini Cooper S clubman today spends the same on gas as someone who bought a Hummer H2 in 2003. Both at 13 cents per mile.
Mine gets 14 Hwy and 12 City. Not bad considering it’s 6,700 pounds.
I have an 05 H2. it gets 11 or 12 MPG. thats on the highway.
The Big Tymers would approve!
GM was killing off the EV1 program as this was being released back in the day.
and developing and launching the Chevy Volt program.
@@wfigthe9098 That wasn’t until 2007 that the Volt concept was shown which was more like a coupe like sports car, but very unfinished. The first Volt wasn’t sold until late December 2010. I think 03-06, GM wasn’t thinking much about advanced efficient powertrains, they were busy churning out SUV’s and trucks.
@@AUSTiNKiNSER part of developing is shutting down funding for old projects. it takes years to develop. Chevy Volt project was in development in 2004. 3 years later it was shown.
This vehicle screams "rob me" 😆
But the driver has a gat.
Iconic, hilarious, and serious?
I absolutely love how tacky and trashy these things are perceived. You are the king of the trailer park if you own one now. Every time I’ve ever had a chance to drive one, I know I look like a giant douchebag and everyone is laughing at me and it’s hilarious. However, these things are super comfortable and I love the way they drive. Would I own one? Probably not. Are they fun? Absolutely, at someone else’s expense!
thats funny. I drive mine and all I ever get is people wanting to buy mine. I just tell them its not for sale. but y'know. cry I guess.
Best car in history
@2:03 he didn't even hit the breaks until 50 feet into the first 100 ft marker lol
No way the H2 is stopping in 100ft, cars are not even doing that today.
HUMMER, HUMMER, H2,H2,H2, HUMMER
They were pretty good, other than the typical GM electrical problems and oil sludge in the engine.
Oil sludge? Sure if you don’t keep the oil changed properly…
@@MPMeterman Frequent changes helps. This engine had pcv issues hence the oil sludge. You can modify the cylinder heads to fix the problem. Besides that it is a solid engine.
@@theardaturanfreak - of course it’s a solid engine. That was my point 🙂
My city’s mayor has one in white
Now twenty years later, GMC's Hummer HEV SUV and SUT pickup fills the shoes of both the H2 and H3
You can still find Toyota land cruisers of this vintage around and in good shape. Whereas I haven’t seen an H2 in probably close to a decade by now
There's actually still a handful in my area, I probably see one a month
I have an H2 and a neighbor down the street has an H3. I see H2s and H3s other than that while driving about once a week.
I see them pretty frequently still, and know 2 owners. They've both never had any mechanical problems besides adjusting the throttle body slightly. One of the two has nearly 300,000 miles on theirs.
I see H2's and H3's weekly in my area. The H3 is especially popular now, thanks to a Hummer revival I noticed that started about 2 years ago.
I rarely see Land Cruisers from this era, but that's due to the fact that barely anyone around me bought them when they were new. The new for '01 Sequoia was Toyota's king.
Sensacional amigo jipão pra derigi bastante 😁👍
classic how the H2
why say arm ; you know?!
🎉
I never got the reason for the 1 person third row lol
Wish it had a supercharged 6.2
GM was thinking quarterly at this era and not long term. Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Hummer, do not exist today because of this quarterly thinking.
Should have started with what was shown as the H4 ( Jeep Wrangler sized roofless, Doors off type)
would have buried the Jeep TJ, kept GM flush with $$, been in every neighborhood in America.
@@BlissTV_ChannelI remember that everyone wanted to get rid of these during the 2008 recession and high fuel prices.
Priced the same as a Land Cruiser, you say? I think I know which one I'd take.
Land Cruuiser for sure for me. Way better all around than this pile of GM junk.
That’s because you can still find land cruisers from this era. I haven’t seen an H2 in something like 7 to 10 years
yeah. the H2
These were such silly vehicles. Basically a pimped up, rebodied pickup truck with shockingly little space inside. The H3 was kind of cool, though.
The h3 was basically a gmc canyon but with gigantic fenders. Only people I ever saw driving them were recently divorced early 40s women looking to catch a young dude 😂.
Don't forget the business tax write offs
Thank God for Rednecks!
A twinkie and a vortec 6 fuckin liter V8
Tanks but no tanks.
i have scale model in 1:18 scale by Highway 61
Love how they left mpg out of the review…..😂😂😂
I think then trucks that large didn't get EPA fuel economy ratings. Car and Driver got 10mpg on their test in 2003
@@SkaBob thanks for the stats.
mnie gets 11-12 MPG
Funny, my SUV has front disc rear drum
Posers is right. I think that's all that bought them.
04 rich y'allll
These have aged as well as the owners that bought them 😂
I love my hummer. No car note.
I think the H2 has aged extremely well. It's a truly timeless design, from an era where car design was still an art form, and not purely based on efficiency or function like nowadays.
comparing this review to the Top Gear one.

This thing was butt ugly then, and it still is now.
idk it’s not ugly, it looks pretty cool
It’s like the cybertruck
You have bad taste friend
Man have times changed, now a days you can get a 4 cylinder with more horse power and torque, my 4 cylinder car has more torque then this SUV but I question how long the engine will last since its a turbo. ( my car is 100% stock and its the base model )
Whats your car?
@@hchickenz1138 2018 Mercedes c350e, it has 275hp but a whopping 448 torque.
a 4 cylinder engine couldn't handle this weight regaring longevity. Also your car has a turbo. A twin turbo setup on a hummer can reach 600-700hp. Although its not a race car.
They should have put the Duramax only
Duramax is an impressive engine but very costly. The LS motors were cheap and effective.
@@777jones Also it is a diesel. Sounds like garbage. Nothing beats the sound and simplicity of a LS engine
I hear the Duramax would give it 18 *US* MPG combined
Before the EV fad, there was the Hummer fad.
The plastic chrome bits are extra
They are actual metal
with the price of gas now lol
Gas was floating around $1.50-$2 on average 20 years ago which was a bit of a shock since it was the first time we saw (Or I had seen) prices hit that high. 5 years later, we hit $4
They were worse in 2008, I remember everybody started wanting to get rid of them then.
The artificial death of gas vehicles, manufactured by a government that wants you to own nothing and be grateful for it.
doesnt stop me from driving my H2
Here after watching Watch Mojo: Top worst cars of all time 😂
I remember there was a big cultural backlash to the H2 and ridiculously huge SUVs such as the Ford Excursion, around this time. Utterly ridiculous vehicles. I'm glad they're gone.
They still make the expedition though which is about as absurdly big as they can get lol. And don’t get me wrong the people that need a vehicle like that for a big family or whatever is no problem, but I see the same guy by himself on my daily commute so clearly you still have people buying them as daily drivers.
@@jackdough8164 Yeah there is still the Escalade/Suburban and Navigator/Expedition. I agree that some people need such a vehicle and I'm fine with that. I suspect they comprise a small percentage of the people who buy them though. Whenever I see one on the road, it's almost always the driver by themself or with a front passenger and that's it. Not loaded down with people, cargo, or towing. I suspect the majority who buy them new do so as a status symbol, not out of necessity. I can't claim to be impressed. Quite the opposite actually since to me such vehicles are the antithesis of classiness. Plus, they block my view on the road, squeeze into a parking space next to me, and then I can't easily get in or out.
A coworker had a Ford Expedition. With six kids he joked that it was either an Expedition or a school bus, and he didn't like yellow.
@@palebeachbumif the masses think they are not cool then why would some people buy them to be cool? People that want to feel cool buy Jeeps to be a part of the popular group. H2s are more for people who don't need to fit in and just want to enjoy something unique.
Well, we didn't want so much "excess" and now look where it's gotten us. Thanks for the $4.00-a-gallon fuel price, hope.your "green initiatives" are worth destroying the middle class.
at this point youre just driving a brick
This was an embarrassment of a vehicle, the H2 not the whole lineup.
Sorry to the people who own one, but averaging 11 mpg in a vehicle that doesn’t have proper off-road clearance for one.
The inside, the rearview is just terrible, because designers decided to put fake vents instead of helping people see.
The V8 is just pathetic; it doesn’t make much power or torque.
And not to forget these did have a lot of electrical issues and occasionally transmission problems. You’d be lucky to not have an issue!
True. But what you said could be applied to an old muscle car. Would you say the same thing then or do you just hate the H2?
@@austinfrazier7325 the H2 is not a muscle car bro
It’s a badly designed Utility vehicle that took design influence from an old muscle car, then added a terribly underpowered engine.
Charged 45’000 back in the early 2000s and added some cheaply made leather, called it off-road when they actually took away some of the ground clearance.
They took the Chevy Tahoe and worked around it to create the H2 also if you did not know that, it is 70% the Tahoe’s body frame.
@@RetroKingOG that 6.0 lq4 underpowered engine came in 2500 in that era up untill 2012
TEN INCHES is a lot of off-road clearance.
had one of these from new... what an absolute piece of crap after a year of ownership... literally fell apart full of rattles and electrical problems... sold it a year later
thats odd. you must have bad luck. I havent had troubles with mine, probably poor maitinence on your end or bad driving habits.
🤜🏼⚡️🤛🏻
Omg, the lights on the roof leak, will ruin your head liner, rain pours into the onstar system on roof, doors let rain in, like puddles in the floorboard, the a/c blend doors stop working, the temp knobs stop working, the wipers stick ON, THE wiper washer fluid motor gets stuck on and squalls! BRAKE light and ENGINE light stay on constantly, oh and the ignition switch goes out often, will run your battery down, then the tracks for the windows to go up and down will SHRED and the windows get STUCK down inside the door panels, NEEDING A TRUSTEORTHY MECHANIC 😢
What year is it and how many miles on it? Has it been wrecked? How many owners?
havent had any issues with mine
I'd be extremely embarrassed to be seen in one of these. And I never care what people think if me!
Overpriced Chevy Tahoe.
The toughest looking SUV in the 2000s and also the most pathetic. It talks the talk but does walk the walk.
What's the gas mileage
Vous serez peut-être surpris d'apprendre que ce H2 a été un échec cuisant en Europe : trop gros, trop polluant, pas adapté aux routes européennes. Il n'y a qu'un Américain pour aimer ce truc.
The American auto industry hasnt learnt its lesson. Same business model, but try to make 1% - 5% of sales electric to meet the minimal emissions regulations that CARB would have had in 2005...
Another recession is imminent
nah i still drive mine
