I'm getting a 2005 H2 tomorrow with 150,000 miles on it. I just like driving back roads all year. I like the style of H2. Thanks for the information. Im dying and like going on country roads seeing nature.
You sir are an absolute LIFE SAVER. I went to check out a hummer today and nearly EVERY issue you listed this truck had! So glad I came across this video.
@@theaveragemechanic oh I’m absolutely DETERMINED to find one. I’ve been wanting one since I was a kid and saw them for the first time. I live in Minnesota so a lot of the ones here are rusted out. Found some good ones down south so I will be going on a road trip next week. 🤞🏾 hoping to find a good one. Thanks again for the information. Definitely one of THE BEST reviews hands down.
If it's the same problem as the H3, then it's the exterior A-pillar trim. Mine was having that exact issue at speeds about 50 and up. Just remove the trim and put some adhesive foam weather stripping in there to replace the old stuff that's probably worn down and it should stop the rattle.
You pretty much summed it up. I have an '03 - A buddy was the original owner - he sold it to another buddy in '17 - and I traded a golf cart for it!. It is a huge, ridiculous SUV. Everything about it is ridiculous.. It weights over 3 tons! (6614lbs to be exact) I had to replace pretty much everything (all the brake lines, knock sensors, pulleys, belts, diff fluids, transmission drain and fill, alternator.....) On normal vehicles, replacing these things are easy! Not the H2! And forget about it if you want to swap the radio with a modern one - the entire console has to come out.. The gas milage is horrific! And then there is the sunroof drain tubes - they crimp almost closed where they go down the A-Pillar, witch means ANY dirt that gets in there is going to cause water to build up in the sunroof channel and spill over to the front of the headliner which causes massive leakage into the interior. The front hood is cool looking, and the fact that it pulls forward is cool to! BUT ITS RIDICULOUS because when it comes time to work on the engine - FORGET IT! You either have to climb up in it or remove the hood.., the back hatch handle / license plate / plastic thing - pops off! You have to snap it back on and be careful closing it. The tire carrier - the little rubber landing pad thing that it closes on rips - causing the carrier not to close! AND there are strange rattles - not to bad, but enough to make you say "Where in the hell is that coming from?" And that sunroof - the motor burns up and doesn't want to work. And let's not forget the damn airbag light. Mine is on because the water leak damaged the Air Bag Module (EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE). NOW THE GOOD: Its just so freaking cool looking! And it drives like a lazy boy on wheels (with armrests on both sides of the seats)! The 4wd system is awesome - its always in 4wd, has 4wd low locked, 4wd high locked and other 4wd modes, that I can't remember what they do.. It drives on soft sand better than my 2019 Tundra or my LS Swapped, 4.88 geared, lockered Jeep TJ!!! It is super fun to drive.. People make comments about how great it looks all the time. (I put 37 inch Patagonias on 18 inch Black Rhinos).. I chuckle every time I look at it and drive it. (I can hear the A-Team theme playing in my head)..... DID I MENTION HOW COOL LOOKING IT IS? LOL. I use this toy as a beach wheeling, fishing beast.. I love the big stupid thing..

Intake manifold gasket 9. MAP sensor 10. PCV Valve/Hoses 11. Shift cable bushing and more ! I still need to do all my fluids. They should arrive in a few days. No rust, no water leak. I just have a shakey steering wheel, I’m gonna start off with rotating and balancing my 35x12.5x20 tires, but I do have bad inner/outer tie rods, and upper control arm bushing, all which I’m going to upgrade to MOOG. Great video! You're a really good speaker, must have had one of those speech instructors that rattled a can full of marbles if you said UHHH. I've had my 2004 H2 for 4 years now. It has helped me through several ice and snow storms, and last week helped my neighbors with groceries and fuel. It has earned it's keep for sure. I save all of my maintenance receipts and it looks like with some issues/problems, normal preventive maintenance, and occasional voluntary upgrades, I averaged $4,000-5000/year, at least for the first 3 years of ownership. For the last year I've kind of backed off, and just feed it oil and gas. When I replaced the oil pump they gave me the option of an aftermarket one that would give it an extra 10-15% oil pressure. It doesn't sound like much but made a big difference. Folks need to watch for that drop in oil pressure at idle or stops!!! Thanks again for the video!
Excellent video & to the point data. Appreciate it very much. Considering buying a 2004 great looking H2 with 175k miles for $14,500. I think it’s a great investment. No rust, no prior accidents, clean title. This will be a second vehicle and used about 4-5 times per month for VA medical appointments only. Cool ride… Excited for my Tonka truck 🛻!!!
You've solidified my want to buy one. I've been looking at Wrangler unlimited as well, but those are just crazy expensive and too small. Thumbs up on your review... Nicely done.
I was checking today a 2005-67k miles here in Fl and inmediately i open the driver door notice the particular odor of wet GM interiors, wet spots all over the front columns from the marker lights I don't even seat on the Hummer Thank you for your vid buddy, used H2 sellers hate you, you perfectly resume were to look before to buy
My 2006 Common issue is the transmission cooler radiator rust easy cracks after 5 years and causes the transmission to fail and not go in reverse. I had it rebuilt in Chicago for 1400.00. Next issue is the EVAP Leak due to wear and tear for air emissions. Tire replacement is about 250-350.00 but they are not a daily driver they are the fun car to have.
I looked at several H2’s before buying my ‘06 and every one of them had water leakage damage. First thing I did was Lexel the marker lights with a very small bead along the factory gasket which is foam. This is a clear silicone and you can razor blade these free to change a bulb or whatever. Also, if your shopping for an H2 bring along a body panel remover (plastic) and pop off either front bottom floor panel covering the transition between the carpet and doors. These come off easily and if they are rusted out underneath take a pass on it due to mold, etc… Fording water is okay but don’t go over the height of the stock wheels and you need to keep moving. The doors are triple sealed but not waterproof. I love mine and I would never part with it.

Owning one of these myself... zero issues with my 05.... I take very good care of mine though and it is a daily driver, but if you buy one of these with any sort of thought in mind of saving money then you're just stupid.. they aren't money pits but they cost money... as does just about EVERY car that isn't a Honda or some other disposable vehicles... just say'n. This is some freaking awesome information though brother. Thank you, I will FOR SURE be taking mine in for a tune.. 12.5 mpg here.. in Cali is... oppressive to say the least.
Have a very nice off-road bumper pull trailer that weighs about 7000 lb I'm in the market for a towing vehicle, and I'm very interested in the hummer as I imagine the I can use it to tow my trailer/ home base to a location and then do some over-landing all while looking extremely cool.
🤣 sometimes it’s just like that though… the car meet burnout contest video is crazy if your looking for my normal excitement level!!!! Thank you for watching and taking the time to make me die laughing!!!
I’m not a dedicated off roader but I do fix my own cars. I’ve built 3 of my Pontiac GTOs engines, super charged 2. Done rear main seal replacements. I just bought a Hummer H2 with only 57k super clean from the outside and inside. Only bad thing is that it’s leaking rear main seal and the front suspension is weak. I’m currently doing the rear main seal and Omg it’s hard work because you have to take all these things to get to the rear main seal. Also redoing the entire front suspension. Thing is , this was owned by a navy officer and was sitting in a container for 5 straight years. Most seals broke because of the lack of being driven. Anyway doing al the work myself. But this truck is amazingly new. Interior is 8 out of 10 and exterior 9.5 out of 10
Thank you so much. I think I will stay with the H3 Alpha. I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I am just an idiot. However I put one of these 30 dollar plugs in the connector under the dash. I think it works. The Jeep is telling me my City is 17 miles to the gallon and 22 city. This was an improvement of 2 to 3 miles to gallon. I live in Las Vegas. Hmmm maybe the plugin did what you are talking about.
Cole Powers XL - I definitely miss mine. You’re absolutely right, you can do a lot off-road in an H2 but not as much as an H3. If I ever get another one it will be the Alpha - 5.3 liter with 300hp 💪
I think the big limiting factor is the h2’s size, for me it’s the fact that I’d hate to have tree branches and stuff bouncing off the truck that a smaller truck wouldn’t have come in contact with. And I’m really wanting a 09-10 h3t alpha with the adventure pack sometime in the future!!! lol hopefully I can make it happen!
Thanks for the post. I am in the market for a H2 SUT at the moment and from the sounds of it tuning it will definitely be an option I will investigate.
@@theaveragemechanic Got 3 and trying to decide all are truck SUT models. I will look at all the points you made. 100k miles isn't too bad right? If taken care of it's good for 300k? I will definitely take it to get tuned.
The info was the best. Thanks for it cuz I have a Chevrolet Avalanche and I have the same problems. Hope to buy a HUMMER LAST GENERATION AND I WILL NEED THIS INFO

All big cars and off road vehicles are expensive to fix because of all components are in it for the use those make in the car so you can have a hummer even h1, h2, h3 or another maker and if u have the money to take care of it the car will be running great all the time so all cars needs regular problems and if u take care of yours it will be in good conditions no matter what kind of car it is .. I have a hummer h3 2008 and I spend money fixing it when the car needs something and let me tell you it runs pretty well and also looks better that the factory maker .

I'm in high school and want a 2008 or 2009 H2 as my first car next year very badly but I've been advised against it because of all its problems. I've found listings of them that are well taken care of with low mileage and many upgrades. I'm just hoping it won't be a high maintenance vehicle because I really love Hummers but won't have the time with school to keep servicing it.
Very informative, thank you. I am surprised that you didn’t cover the dreaded manifold leak that plagues these and other GM vehicles that share the same power plant. I own a 2008 H2 and have struggled with this over the last couple of years and need to get it fixed. I found a kit specifically for this fix and looking for the right repair shop to do it.
Great vid! Thinking about trading my c6 6 speed vette for an 05’ whipple supercharged H2. It’s got a super heavy duty built trans and nice wheels/tires. Well over 20k in upgrades to the truck. My 05’ vette is bored .40 over with a stroker kit, aggressive cam and full bolt ons. Made 493whp on a very mild tune. The car came with $10k of receipts for the engine alone! Was built by Texas speed shop. Not sure who SC’d the H2 or if it’s only on just a handheld tune. Hopefully I’ll be looking at it this weekend or so!
I will get myself one, I live in Austria but I was part of designing Part of the vehicles back in 2001. So there is some attachemnet... though I only owned an Avalanche when I was living in Michigan. This is the counterpart of the G Class!

Thanks for watching and I appreciate the kindness!!
Cool ride…
Excited for my Tonka truck 🛻!!!
Thanks for watching good luck!!
How’s the truck been so far?
Decided to buy our second Jeep Wrangler 2019 instead. Mountain living off grid a smaller 4x4 wheel drive Jeep was a better option for us.
You've solidified my want to buy one. I've been looking at Wrangler unlimited as well, but those are just crazy expensive and too small. Thumbs up on your review... Nicely done.
Thanks for watching and good luck on your search!!
I was checking today a 2005-67k miles here in Fl and inmediately i open the driver door notice the particular odor of wet GM interiors, wet spots all over the front columns from the marker lights
I don't even seat on the Hummer
Thank you for your vid buddy, used H2 sellers hate you, you perfectly resume were to look before to buy
Lmao!! thank you for watching and yes H2 sellers are definitely mad at this video!!
Hey buddy thanks for watching! I’m glad you found it useful! message me on insta! @ColePowersXL I’d love to take a look!
Dudes like a hummer pro, I feel much more comfortable buying one👍
This is exactly it!! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this video dude. Can't even tell you how much it's helped me really get to know my 03.
Nice!! Enjoy and thank you for watching!

Very informative. Stepping up and buying my dream truck!
I really want an H2...glad I came across ur video...too many issues..we'll see..thanks..
I bought 2004 h2 with 244000 miles on it and it drives like new I love it so much
Owning one of these myself... zero issues with my 05....
OUTSTANDING - straight talk and a complete common sense guide to the Hummer H2. WOW and thanks
Thank you for watching!!
Great video, I am in the early stages of looking for an H2 and Your video
"Real talk!" Very through pre-buy advice!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this video because i just buy my H2 2004 last week
No worries thanks for watching!
I had a 2003 now i have a 2007. Thanks for the info brother
The enthusiasm is infectious
🤣 sometimes it’s just like that though… the car meet burnout contest video is crazy if your looking for my normal excitement level!!!! Thank you for watching and taking the time to make me die laughing!!!
Thank you so much for your video, I learned a lot from you.
About the Hummer more…thanks.
Interior is 8 out of 10 and exterior 9.5 out of 10
Sounds like you have a good one just needs to be freshened up!!!
Had 2 h3’s 2006, 2008 - loved them, great off-road and in the snow.
Bought an ‘05 H2 in January (Clyde 😂) I’ll take her over my 3’s all day long.
Yeah it’s a totally different experience!!! I would like to add a h3t to my collection though!!
Cole Powers XL Absolutely, the branches and crap are why I’m getting ready to get it done in line-x ($3,500+/- but guaranteed for life.
Thanks for the post. I am in the market for a H2 SUT at the moment and from the sounds of it tuning it will definitely be an option I will investigate.
Nice! Hope you find a nice one!! Thanks for watching!
Nice I had an avalanche too!! I absolutely loved it!! But I’m very very happy to have the hummer!! Thanks for watching!!!
Good stuff, Bud. 03H2 here. New air bags awhile back to keep it stock. And tires. They look great, but they age quietly.
Nice!! Thanks for watching!
THE BEST HUMMER INFO ON TH-cam !!!!!!
Thank you! And thanks for watching!!
Thank you very informative. I got the leak. My hummer was purchased 1 year ago. 2007Hummer H2. I keep in garage and no winter. No rain. This is my baby. Leak noticed while washing. It drips through OS handle. Not for long. I'm taking it to my body guy. Oh yeah my H2 is the same color as yours in the video. All Terrain Blue?
Yes it is all terrain blue!!! We have one of the rarer colors!! Thanks for watching!
@@theaveragemechanic Cole the place where I bought it told me it is a rare color. Thanks for verifying.

Good review and gushhhhh. I've experienced most of what you say so help me God that I am at the end of the list!
Good luck!
Hello Cole. I watched your entire video. I very much appreciate the detailed information. Will definitely apply every suggestion before, during and after acquisition of a 2009 SUT. You should have many more subscribers. I will certainly recommend your channel. Thanks again and stay safe.
Joseph thank you for watching and your kind words!!! More videos coming soon!!
@@theaveragemechanic Looking forward to your videos. What state are you in?. I'm in South Florida.

SUPER GREAT VID!! IM IN!!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks man I’m on my way to go look at an H2 tomorrow to purchase it and this will really help me! very thorough info
Thanks for watching!! Good luck with the truck!
I have a hummer h3 2008 and I spend money fixing it when the car needs something and let me tell you it runs pretty well and also looks better that the factory maker .
dude great video i haved owned 1 for 15 years u r spot on about the problems wow even the back handel i pulled mine rite off ////u r spot on dam ////// my truck has lots of grounding problems electical /////// but i love this truck sticker price was 79 thousand on mine many upgrades

Thanks friend I'm looking at 2005 H2 blacking and out with 156,000 for 9,500 going to check it out thanks again. 😅
I've had 2 hummers and had most of these issues in both of them lol. Multiple friends with H2's that have had most of these as well.
Oh and i've driven the balls off them off road lol. They're absolute monsters if you know how to drive them.
Nice!!!
Thanks for your time and information. Love my Hummer
John thank you for watching and your support!! Catch you in the next episode!
Get an Excursion.... then we can talk about kind of SUVs. But either way great video lots of friends with these SUVs and have helped them with a lot of these issues.

Got it. Thank you!
I feel like I'm on a PH JOI video intro lol. Good information!
Probably not a great choice for a first vehicle.....
🤷🏻♂️ #hardtodealwithfacts...
Absolutely helped..thank you! What O2 sensors are the best to install for tuning.
Thanks for the information, you gave me a lot of great pointers. Im hoping to buy one before i retire from the navy.👍🏿👍🏿
Nice! Thanks for watching!
Very informative, thank you. I am surprised that you didn’t cover the dreaded manifold leak that plagues these and other GM vehicles that share the same power plant. I own a 2008 H2 and have struggled with this over the last couple of years and need to get it fixed. I found a kit specifically for this fix and looking for the right repair shop to do it.
o yea i pull my 41 fountain to the boat ramp every saturday love this truck
Nice!!! I’d love to see that! I also wish it was warmer, everything is frozen here so no boating right now!
I would really have to believe and hope the H2 would have a real tune on it!!! Sounds like it will be a blast to drive as well!!! Good luck with it!!
Great you officially talked me out of buying an h2 hummer. 🤣
Very informative , chasing the leaking marker light problem .. inconsistent abs light coming on so checking brake system for problems.
Good luck and thank you for watching!
Awesome video man, thanks!!!!
Thanks for watching!!
Excellent!
Hummer forever !
Great video. Good things to know. I took my truck in water not knowing about the low locations of wiring and ECU.
Lots of people have... lol thanks for watching!
Absolutely fantastic review, it truly helped a lot. Keep doing great things.
Nice!! Thanks you for watching and for the kind words!!!
i have a 2003 h2, but still great info.. thanks!
Nice thanks for watching!
the more i listen to u the more i love u
Thinking about buying a used one for work…20 minute all highway drive to and from… still not sure if I wanna buy a problem child 😂😂😂
Can I ask.. now in 2024 what is correct fix for the marker lights . Cause I don’t think you can buy them oem with the rubber bunge .
Great video. You are spot on with the common problems.
Thanks!! And thank you for watching!
Love my H2 as a mechanic I'll deal with it till I can
Great u r genius ❤😊 i never seen such research guy u r so good 👍
nice Accordeon tune!
lol thanks for staying till the end!!!! I appreciate you taking the time to watch it all!!!
I will get myself one, I live in Austria but I was part of designing Part of the vehicles back in 2001. So there is some attachemnet... though I only owned an Avalanche when I was living in Michigan. This is the counterpart of the G Class!
Great vid. I understand 4L80 Box ist best,
Good all round advice 👍😎
would you make list of common problems a printable file ! so i can print out.
thank you so much!
I’ll try to get around to it.

Lol, people love making problems don’t they
It’s funny, 😂 headaches and headaches 😝, it seems like there’s no ending, and I like your impressions 😂
I got some more to fix on mine but wouldn’t trade it for the world!!!!!
My 07 Escalade had a lot of the same problems...
Thanks for the video. Very informative and helpful!)

@@theaveragemechanic you welcome. By the way, you’ve mentioned software turning for better fuel economy. What do you think about Predator Inc ECM for stock H2?
Predator isn’t worth the money it’s just a flash general tune. You want your exact truck calibrated as part of the tune! Hope this helped!!
@@theaveragemechanic thank you! It’s shure does.
Can you post top 10 mods type video like the Tune you mentioned. Best places to put your money for people buying used one to get it in top quality running condition. I'm looking at an 03 myself I found recently. Going to use your info for overview on vehicle. Good information! More hummer videos!
