Portal OST is like the definition of ambience. You don't notice it the whole game and after listening to the soundtrack you realized how funky it actually is.
I can definitely see the change of pace with both soundtracks. Portal 1 had this clinical and uneasy ambience that makes the player feel utterly alone It definitely matches with what was going on in the lore with the Black Mesa incident happening simultaneously and what was to come in Half-Life 2. Portal 2 changes absolutely everything with replacing the fear of being alone to the fear of getting smashed by a big mashy spike plate.
Portal 1 has chell in a place she does not understand, scared of everything. Portal 2 chell has seen it before, and Is ready to take on the fight again.
@@rustybeskar4664 it could also be because of the fact that there's more fast paced stuff, so the music is different to keep the adrenaline up. If you notice tho, everything makes music. The laser nodes and receiver, the light bridges and the companion cube.
Portal 1 is ghostly, something is always off but you’re not sure if you can put your finger on what’s off, or maybe you do and you’re just too scared to admit what’s off. Portal 2 is being in a place that’s familiar, old, broken in, but also literally broken. Things aren’t the same as they used to be, and you wonder if they ever could be. In other words, a VOCABULARY IS FUN TO USE and I’m pretty much just saying nonense
