- June 11, 2024 update: have about 88k miles (replaced switch at 72k) and still working great!
Transmission hard shift in our 2019 Honda Pilot EX-L FWD. Happened a few times over a few weeks, and then had check engine light come on with the following warning messages:
Transmission
Emission
Blind Spot Monitor
OBDII Code Scanner pulled the P0848 code. Replaced the 3rd clutch pressure switch (Part # 28600-R94-004) and it appears to have fixed the problem. This video shows the replacement procedure. Should be same for all 2016-2022 Honda Pilots

I had the same problem with mine honda pilot 2017. Changed the sensor like 3 months ago and yesterday the problem returned.
Cmon get that bad juju outta here!!! Ugh I really hope it doesn’t come back 😩 Did you do a 2x trans fluid change also?
I did the flush before replacement. So I guess I need to do it again.
@@tinar8137 dang. That sucks to hear. If it does it again to us I think I’ll start looking into getting rid of it honestly
That is what I am thinking about. I test drove toyota highlander yesterday, but was sooo disappointed in it. 2.4 engine for a big car is a joke. It sounded as it was dying every time I pushed the accelerator pedal. And I am not in love with the new honda pilot body and infotainment system. I really like My honda pilot 😢.
@@tinar8137 I’ve read mixed reviews on the new pilots on piloteers.org. Have heard good things about the new Mazda cx-90
Hey you doing I need help with my honda pilot. It's a 2011
What oil did you use ?
hi my 2018 pilot exl awd with 66400 mi started jerking/hard shift. MIL came on with code p0843. its the 2nd clutch pressure sensor switch. im wondering where did you get the blow up image so i can pin point the which switch to change. thanks
Not sure which website, but it was one of the Honda parts dealer sites. If you google Honda oem parts it should pull up a bunch of Honda parts sites. Just click on one and search for your part (i.e. clutch pressure sensor switch) and it should take you to an exploded diagram. If you can’t find one lmk and I’ll try to find a specific link
ok thanks. i know its been 7 months since you post this video. how is it now did the issue reoccur?
@sena-oc6os all still good! Just got back from a road trip to the beach today. No issues since everything done in the video. I think I’ll probably drain and fill the trans fluid again soon proactively
Did this work for you? I have the same symptoms which are intermittent. Hugh clunk shifting into 3rd gear. Same 3 warnings
It did! We’ve put about 10k ish miles on our pilot since doing this and the problem has not reoccurred. I’m about to replace the trans fluid again bc i think that’s what caused the issue in the first place. But yea, all good since doing this
I lied. We’re at just under 88k miles and I did this at just under 72k miles. So 16k miles without any issues! I really need to change the trans fluid 😅😅
@@fiveohmxco hey man, great info
What trans oil fluid do you recommend
@RodriguezSteve I’m an engineer so it’s hard for me to go against what the Honda engineers recommend, which is the oem trans fluid dw-1. But I have read and heard that the Valvoline maxlife is a good option as well, maybe better.
I would recommend staying with the oem Honda dw-1
Hello I’m having the same issue and I’m at 71000 miles the dealer wants to replace the transmission this sucks cause it started having issues like 3years in
Show them this video and ask if it’s this problem! Are they replacing it under warranty? If not, this should be like a $800 job to replace this sensor imo. Or diy!
They are not replacing under warranty they said it came out with a P0848 code and said it was a bad transmission, I don’t understand if that code said it’s a bad pressure sensor . This transmission problem had been happening since the vehicle was under warranty. Did changing the sensor fix the problem and how often do you change the transmission oil now?
@@josesandoval7487 yes, it fixed the transmission issue for us. I haven’t replaced the trans fluid since then. I looked at it a couple weeks ago and it’s still red and smells fine. I’ll prob change it next oil change though. Did pressure switch at like 72k miles and we’re at like 88k miles now
I'm having the same issue and code. Did this fix the issue so far?
It did! It’s been about 4 weeks or so now and have not had the issue (hard shift) reoccur
I would recommend a double drain and fill of trans fluid before doing the sensor swap if you end up doing this. Make sure you drive around a little between the 2 drain and fills. My opinion is you have to get all the old trans fluid (and gunk) out first so it doesn’t gunk up the new sensor
*Promo sm* 💯
DONT USE CRESENT WRENCH IT WILL BIND AND CRACK THE HOUSING < IM REPLACING MINE NOW @700$
