- Here we have a video showing exactly what tons of Honda folks are going through. Very common on newer odysseys, pilots, passports, ridgelines, tlx, mdx, etc. trans is shifting weird or harsh, at times vehicle is juddering and shaking in a driving through a rumble strip feeling. I had a 2007 odyssey, changed the ATF fluid every 30K bought it brand new and drove it 200K no issues, and sold it. Great Van

I did 3x drain and refill with 50-50 amsoil and dw1 and it solved the issue on 2014 crv awd.
Yep, they also share the same issue just not as common
Fixed a ton of these (MDX & RDX as well) we flush with the 16 qt. BG machine & update them.
Nice, works pretty well. Even on extreme cases the improvements are great
Disappointed. 2019 Pilot with the 6spd started this at 90k, and I do a drain and fill every 30k. One drain and fill mostly fixed it. Just did a second. My 2014 CR-V (5spd) with drain/fill every 30k, have never had an issue and am at 140k. It's 2024, we should be living on the moon and not needing super perfect trans fluid!

Great video man, one thing that’s often overlooked is the small external transmission filter of these gear boxes. I’m not sure where it’s located in the Honda/Acura trucks.
But in the V6 sedans (TL or V6 Accords) is usually right below the battery.

@@BCautosolutions I just got a Pilot with 105,000 drives good with no issues should I perform this service the trans fluid is not pink the carfax doesn't show any Trans service?
@@DM-vl6kl You need to do it every 30k miles according to Honda if you have the 6 speed trans. From experience with a 2019 Honda Pilot, I'm having to do drain and fill every 20k miles. But I don't do the 3 drain and fills like this guy. If I don't do it every 20k miles the Shudder/Judder is definitely noticeable and annoying. Keep an eye out for the sudden unintended acceleration. Happened to me once. I applied the brakes and was able to stop it from continuing. I would recommend to sell it if you are able. Honda quality is crap and the dealership told me they couldn't duplicate the issue which is a total lie.
@@BCautosolutions I am planning to get an Honda Pilot Touring Pre certified from Honda. Here in the middle east it is with the Traditional shifter and not the buttons. So it should be a 6 Speed Auto and not 9 speed.
From the service history , i can see that Differential Fluid was changed at 30K KMs / 18K Miles and 60K KMs / 36K miles.
- Considering the climate in the middle east should we change the differential fluid every 10K KMs or 6K miles?
- Apart from this is the 6 speed automatic reliable even in hot climates?
- How less fuel efficient is 6 speed automatic compared to 9 speed automatic?
In the vehicle history is see “(S) DIFF OIL HONDA-DPS-F (1L)” hope i am looking at right item and this Is the recommended type of oil..
Users should try adding Lubegard additive to their transmission when changing the fluid. I have used it in my Odysseys for 22 years and never had any sort of trouble with them. I’m fact, the shift quality of my ‘14 with 6-speed is nearly imperceptible. No trace of shudder, ever. I have done fluid changes around 15K most of that time and NEVER seen anything but nice pink/ red fluid come out, which has to do with the friction during the shudder. conditions. Try Lubegard additives also in power steering (different product) and the pump and system will live longer.

Looked for lubegard and came across what seems to be a regular(red bottle) and a 2-in-1 platinum(grey bottle). Which do you use?
Thanks for the video. I just dropped off my 2016 Odyssey, Just a over 76k, I see service bulletin 17-043 says its covered under warranty for 8 years or 80k miles which ever comes first. Crossing my fingers

Great video -- super helpful instruction. One question: I have a 2014 Odyssey and have read a range of opinions on how and when to test the fullness of the transmission fluid reservoir during the fluid change. Some say you need to drive the vehicle and make sure the trans fluid is warmed up before checking the dipstick and that warm fluid measures differently. Others say you can test cold. What's your understanding? And what mark on the dipstick do you interpret to mean a full reservoir? Thanks!
Full is top dot of hash. Check it when warm although the difference between warm and cold is minimal
Honda dealer just did this on our 2016 Odyssey under the tsb and it is now silky smooth shifting. Just under 80,000 miles

I had it done on my 2016 Odyssey, was so smooth for a month or so and now i feel the jutter again. I have 70k (under 80k) too. Do you feel the little jutter returning yet?
Did they fix it under warranty? I have the same issue on my 2017 Ridgeline which is just out of the 5yr/60k mile warranty.

@@BCautosolutions Thanks for the tip. The dealer fixed it under warranty last week. They triple flushed the fluid since at some point the software was updated. It was covered under service bulletin 17-025 and 17-026. Problem has gone away!
My 2019 Pilot Ex started doing this at 26k miles. You would think Honda would fix this problem 3 years going in on new Redesign.
It’s really only a matter of doing the fluid as needed vs strictly every 30k or so. Problem is most techs are lazy abs don’t bother looking at fluid conditions (assuming you svc it at a dealer)
Run from that pilot while you can

Just found your channel and subscribed after watching a couple of your videos.
I had the judder on my 2017 Ridgeline. Changed the fluid and fixed the issue. 5 months later started getting a hard shift when up shifting to second gear. It wouldn’t do it all the time until it finally gave me a P0776 code. Dealer changed the solenoid unit but it didn’t fix the issue.
The said that my next fix might be a new transmission.
Is this correct fix for this?

@@rotaxrider ok so the code is for a solenoid on the valve body. first step is drain fluid and check for metal debri (not to be confused with normal clutch debri found on drain plug). If there is debri, needs a trans. If there are no metal fragments I would change the fluid 2-3 times decoding on condition and color, reset code, see how it goes. If it ends up returning may need the valve body or a full trans replacement. The valve body is pita and expensive to change.

I’m the original owner and fluid wax always changed at recommended intervals. Fluid level was always double checked following Honda’s procedure to make sure it was at full mark.
I got the valve body replaced by a Honda dealer and he did check for metal filings when he drained the oil and none were found.
He didn’t do a 3 drain and fill just the usual 1 and it the fluid that he did drain had a hint of burnt fluid to it.
Following his test procedure from Honda when checked Control Solenoid Valve B his test was showing that it was good and passed his test.
He ended up replacing the whole valve assembly anyways and said that his repair manual didn’t show anymore steps from there when he tested the Solenoid and it passed even though the code was saying it was stuck off. Long story short it didn’t fix it it’s still has hard shifting from 1 to second gear but not all the time and especially never when I first leave in the morning when it seems the transmission fluid is cold.
I can try doing 3 time flush to see if it helps but do you think it’s something internally with that P0776 code?
Hey men I recently did this to my 2015 accord touring v6 with the 6 speed auto I only did one flush and it was good a like a month and went right back to hard shifting and the transmission is all over the place I plan on doing the 3 times flush hopefully it will fix the problem for longer also what is a PCM update?

Hey man! Thanks for all the great info! We also own an 06 Accord 4Cylinder and the car has 185K miles. The last time transmission showing serviced was at 147K miles 3 years ago. The transmission feels flawless by the way. Wats your opinion on servicing the transmission at this mileage? Also servicing would entail only drain and refill correct? Thank you!
Hey I appreciate the kind words. Yes, if there’s no shifting issues and the service interval hasn’t been that far apart, id be ok with doing a drain and fill.

2007 Ody. 191K, I drain and fill once a year. Trying to make the car last.

My ‘17 ridgeline 77tho kms was maintained by dealership, now waiting on new transmission and transfer case for 7 months. Honda canada has no idea when the will get these parts. So now it just sits at dealership. So disappointed

2020 Pilot 6speed did 3X drain and refill drives so much better now but dipstick is right at the low mark even though I put in 3 and 3/4 quarts. Do I add some more to bring it to Hot level?

How much more transmission fluid if you have a transmission cooler over the non tranny cooler option. (Towing pkg has a tranny cooler but owners manual doesn't indicate a different amount)
Not sure, have to measure with dipstick but no more then 1 qt extra
I have the same issue now with my 2016 Honda Odyssey at 70k miles. I feel it from 1-2nd gear. I had it recent transmission fluid exchange, it seems smooth for about a month and now the issue is back. I properly put at most 1-2k miles since it started again. Maybe i need another exchange? But could it also be a transmission solenoid screen clog that needs cleaning as i see on other channels? Or maybe an issue with the shift switch?
How many times did you drain and fill it? Chances are the fluid was way too dark to start and needs to be done a few times. Also there could be a chance a pcm update is needed.
@@BCautosolutions I had this done at a Honda dealership service. The mechanic said he did a pre-flush, but only once. I'm not sure what that means. Like if he just pure in extra fluid and let it drain or did what your video did and shift gears etc. He did check the pcm update and told me my car didn't need it.
@@BCautosolutions How would you know if a PCM update is needed or not ? Does the Honda service just provide PCM updates?
@@dragutak would have to see what version it has with scan tool. If it’s out of warranty you would have to pay for it

What are the issues with the transmission that’s has the selector? I’m looking in to buying a 2017 Honda Pilot with 9 gear selector.
Not nearly as many issues va the more common honda 6 speed with the shift knob

does a similar thing happen on acceleration? My family's 2017 Odyssey is doing a thing where the rpms bounce on acceleration after the engine warms up. Similar to the example in this video, just on acceleration, not at cruising speed. I just wonder if the same fix is the flush or if I have a different issue.
It’s tough to say as there are many different symptoms that can occur. I would do a quick fluid check if it’s a heavy brown or black looking and smells bad then I would for sure try to do a 3x trans drain and fill. I have a good feeling that’s your issue.

My 2015 Odyssey is doing more of what you are describing. It shudders on acceleration, but not at constant cruising speed. Did you find out if this same TSB fixes the acceleration issue? Thanks
@@wickpoker Yes the TSB fixed it, transmission fluid got changed (dealer did not tell us how many times they did it though) and the issue went away. No more shuddering, we are going to make sure to get the transmission fluid changed every 30k miles. I didn't get to check the color of the fluid before it was changed but I imagine it was black or something. 😬

My 2017 honda pilot have a p0741 code and i was told to change the torque converter solenoid valve. I bought the tc solenoid valve online but now my problem is I cannot find where is the sensor located.. please help
You need a torque converter if your getting that code.

How many miles has it been? Trans service needs to be maintained/fluid changed every 15k after this is done or even more often depending on driving conditions.
@@Henry_Jones yeah, Honda is wrong on this one. Do the flush 2x again and then every 15k going forward.

You mention the driving through a rumble strip feeling. How do you tell the difference between this and the VCM vibrations? I’ve got significant vibration at idle while in drive (stopped at a light) or in park, not so much in neutral. Definitely feel the rumble at low RPMs in higher gears at the “cruising” speed. I haven’t really noticed weird shifts however.
It’s a lot more intense feeling vs the normal vcm vibration. More of a back and forth jerking.
@@BCautosolutions is the vibration at idle while in drive a VCM or transmission judder issue?
@@pragmaticoptimist46 neither, vcm isn’t activate at idle nor is there a judder present, you can still have bad mounts which is most likely your case. If you do aftermarket mounts sometimes vibration is the same or worse then broken Honda mounts

I have a 2011 honda pilot every time I put on reverse or drive. I hear crack noise. I replaced the drive shaft and still feeling and hear the crack noise. Any ideas what can be? Thank you so much

3x trans flush. Depending on severity maybe even 4. Also ask them to check for trans software updates.
