2018 Nissan Armada Platinum - An Aging Infiniti For Nissan Money

  • After far too long on the market with minimal changes, Nissan reinvigorates the full-size Armada for 2017. Now based on the Nissan Patrol in other markets, the 2018 Armada is now essentially the Infiniti QX80 we've had in the states since 2011. With a price that undercuts its luxury cousin by $20,000 and thousands less then even its more mainstream rivals, buyers in need of the capabilities offered by large SUV's will find plenty to like with this latest version. However, that comes at a price and the interior will remind you constantly why its rivals are charging far more money.

      The only thing I would say is trashy is the Infotainment screen. Where the air vents are, they could've moved them to the other side of the brown leather columns, so the infotainment screen could be wider. The first set of buttons below the infotainment screen could be built-in touch screen buttons so the screen could be taller.
      The no android auto and no apple carplay doesn't mean nothing either, because most people use Bluetooth. And the navigation means nothing either because you can also use your phone.
      Also, I don't like the brown and black leather setup being the only set up for the Platinum. I think cream seats with brown wood looks the best, and that these should've been the options for the platinum trim.
      And for this being the platinum trim, there are no massaging seats like the Expedition. But, this is also 15 thousand dollars cheaper than the Expedition.
      Also, the third row may be smaller than the rest of its class, but so is this vehicle. Also, kids smaller than adults sit in third rows, most of the time.
      But I am saying all of this as if this 2018 model was a 2021 model. This is fine for its type in 2017. 7-8 inch infotainment screens are standard, and massaging seats are not gonna be found for a 60 thousand dollar vehicle. The only bad thing to me, for this model in 2017 is the color of the seats for a platinum trim. I can find brown wood with cream seats on other trims. This vehicle is a steal for 2017. It is the cheapest and most reliable compared to it's competitors.

    Test drove a 2018 Platinum today and was surprised. We have been looking for a SUV off and on over the last three months and skipped over anything made by Nissan, Mazda or Ford. We drove into a lot and noticed a nice looking Black Armada Platinum sitting all alone. As I walked around it I was a bit shocked by it's size and had always thought they were just another FWD based make believe SUV. We missed out on a very nice GMC Yukon XL yesterday and just started all over again with our quest. We did test drive it and wow was it nice. One thing I didn't like was some wind noise next to my head and my wife who was riding in the back could never get the entertainment system working. We are both big fans of large body on frame SUV's and have had several suburbans over the years. It's a very nice black on black 2018 with 45,000 miles and has a good one owner CarFax. They are asking $46,000 for it which we thought was a bit high what do you think? Today is 6/9/21

    I rent cars on a monthly basis for business. I usually get a full-size pickup because of the comfort travelling on long road trips. This past weekend, Alamo was out of pickups, so they offered me a free upgrade to the Infiniti QX80, the Armada's fraternal twin. I found that overall, this SUV is a wonderful travelling partner. Quiet, smooth, and easy to drive as it gobbles up miles. But like Sofyan stated the infotainment unit is very dated, even though it was updated for 2018 and the absence of CarPlay is disappointing. Also the center console around the shifter quickly began to overflow with phones, cords and a couple of cups of McD's Iced Tea. It is obvious that this was designed well before phones became indispensable travelling partners. I loved the 5.6 V8 noises and thurst, but the cost of such noise was 19 MPG. We are in the market for a full-size truck/SUV, and the Armada would be at the top of our list if not for the ancient infotainment.

    Give me a strong, reliable, and proven engine and transmission, a solid electrical system, and a high quality paint job, and you can KEEP your damn Apple Car Play, cup holders, v@gina warmers, heated steering wheels, and digital guages.
    I like body on frame SUV's that have the capability to be driven off-road without falling apart (even if I only take if off-road 5 times in 10 years). Everything I like is disappearing. That's what your dad said, and your grandfather before him.
    I own a 2007 Nissan Altima (with CVT----170,000 trouble-free miles) and a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder (140,000 trouble free miles). Owned the Altima since it was brand new. Zero complaints. ZERO! After the 2012-era Pathfinder, if you want a RELIABLE body on frame SUV, there's only the 4Runner, Sequoia, and Armada..................and if you want to avoid the, "Toyota tax", there's only the Nissan Armada. If Nissan would put a rear locker in the Armada (it'd be nice to be able to pull up and jump the curb at the Krogers or Safeway), at the same time, keep the price at least $5,000 less than the Sequoia, I think Nissan would sell EVERY single Armada they can produce. My 6 cylinder Pathfinder has plenty of power and low-end torque, I can't even imagine what that 5.6 liter V-8 must feel like when you put your foot in it.

    Everyone can hate on Nissan’s as much as you want, but I’ll tell you one thing you can almost always find on a Nissan that you can’t on a Ford or Chevy. Body panels that match up. American automakers always have at least one body panel that doesn’t quite line up. I’ve seen tons of Nissan’s and I have yet to see anything that doesn’t lineup. Everytime I’m behind a fusion, the trunk doesn’t lineup at all. Every. Single. One.

    Lol he hates that key, I used to have an Altima (2016) and I actually like the key very much just because it’s old doesn’t mean that it needs to be replaced. Why fix it if it’s not even broken? The key doesn’t even look old

    • @mujjuman
      @mujjuman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The key is definitely old looking when you compare it to other brands. And cheap feeling.

    • @gatewaypark1
      @gatewaypark1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MLosUno i happen to think the key is very durable from personal experience I owned the 16 Altima for a year and I appreciate how light the key is. I have a 17 Kia Optima and the key is much heavier

    • @mlosuno402
      @mlosuno402 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ivan Gonzalez I'm not questioning the durability. I'm sure itll hold up fine but it just doesnt feel like a quality item like some other brands have.

    If that key has been in use for as long as it has been, consumers and Nissan really don’t gaf. Stop complaining about the key it’s obvious they are not going to do anything to it anytime soon. In every nissan/Infiniti video you make you complain about it. (I’ve been a long time subscriber I would know). But still great video minus you bashing the car... LIKE ALWAYS

    • @mr.c1136
      @mr.c1136 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, the key is smaller than most which fits nicely in my pocket. It’s a key that houses all necessary functions it is expected to perform. The key hardly ever comes out of my pocket, so I dgaf what it looks like, and if an aged design means the costs are lower in the event I need to replace it, that’s s plus.

    Had a choice of this or an Expedition as a rental car (Enterprise) and it was much better equipped.
    We loved it a lot except the fuel consumption (averaged 15.9 mpg over 3,500 miles) and the indeed aged back-up cam screen. The resolution just wasn’t great. Also, it kept beep and honking at us all the time. Almost became a running gag.
    Other than that it was very nice and spacious (three people).
    Active security was fine as was the adaptive cruise.
