    I'm a master carpenter with 30 yrs under my belt. I don't buy cheap tools, which usually means I don't buy inexpensive tools. This is an exception. The 12 inch DeWalt slide compound is by far the best saw on the market..........@ $500 - $600 bucks..........and worth it. Having said that, this Kobalt saw is a bargain, and could hold it's own against most miter saws on the market; especially for the price. I like the 10 inch version, as you get a slightly better cut with a smaller diameter blade. Thin kerf blades will wobble when not up to speed, and they bend easily. The only downside is that you can't cut 5 1/4 inch base standing up; and when you're cutting 7 or 800 ft of base in a day, speed matters. I love the forward control for the bevel. Only the Bosch has that, and the Bosch is overpriced, heavy, and won't hold up in the field. ( don't like it ). I wish the saw had a work light instead of a laser. It casts a perfect shadow down the blade and never needs adjusting. Much better than a laser and dead accurate, all the time; but like the laser, you can't see it in direct sun light. I used to cut and install around 5 miles of baseboard per year, and did that without a laser, rarely ever the need for any re-cuts; so a laser is a luxury that is not necessarily needed.
    Bottom line.............buy the saw. Most seasoned finish carpenters ( who don't have the DeWalt ) , would be happy with it. P.S. You can pick up the DeWalt DWS 779 for $350 on Amazon. It's not the latest version, but there's very little difference.

      Thanks for sharing... I completely agree. It's a great saw for the price. I plan on using it for woodworking which is why I went with the 10" over the 12" for the increased accuracy. The laser is my only complaint and I like you would prefer a back light instead. Thanks for watching!

    I've seen quite a few negative reviews about the angles being spot on. Anyone here experienced any negative that was either able to be fixed or not with their saw yet? Also, if anyone has the 7 1/4 also I'd like to hear which you prefer on the fly. I'm considering the 24Volt Max 7 1/4 but I'm new to carpentry. Just doing decks and outdoor childs playsets.

      I'm not an expert by any means. However, this saw will work great for your application. I've used it to build a deck, made shadow boxes, and cutting boards with no complaints. It's not a $1000 saw but it doesn't cost that either. I have no regrets.

  • @nanad6871
    @nanad6871 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I am finding that the bevel lock does not truly lock the angle. In the unlock position it moves easily to the angle I need. In the lock position it still allows me to move the angle but I have to apply more pressure to do so
    Does this make sense or any way to adjust etc?????

    • @lumberhacks3528
      @lumberhacks3528  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Okay After a long look I think I've found you a fix... If you look on the back of the saw behind the bevel you will see a u shape cast it into the frame. Sticking out of that you shape will be a bolt with a large washer and nut. When you disengage the bevel lock it loosens that bolt and washer allowing you to tilt the saw left or right. I think you should just be able to tighten that bolt and that will fix your issue. Mine is tight enough that it does not move when locked. If you can't tighten it down far enough I suggest putting an additional washer between the nut and washer. Also make sure your bevel lock handle is on tight. I hope this helps if not just write back and we can look I to further... Thanks for watching and commenting. Good luck

    I have this saw. When I cut 45’s on my 7.25inch baseboard. The cut closet to the guides is 1/4 shorter than the far end? Already checked, everything is square. Not sure why this is happening, it makes my job 10 times harder. Any tips?

    • @lumberhacks3528
      @lumberhacks3528  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear that. I would say you need to "tune" your saw. It is possible that the 45 detent on the bevel is off or your fence isn't square. Trying to explain how to do that is a little beyond my scope. But there are other videos that show you how and the instruction manual has some limited detail. I would look for a Miter Saw Detent Calibration video. I hope this helps in some way. Thanks for watching.

    I've a question, now that you've had this Kobalt miter saw for a while. This saw looks like it has a belt drive. My old miter saw was direct drive with the motor mounted right to the blade. It did not have a soft start so there was a strong 'jolting' motion as the motor ramped up. Also, I found that my old saw had play in the hinges / pivot points. All together it produced uneven results and cuts just enough out-of-square to be a pain. How has this been for you?

    • @lumberhacks3528
      @lumberhacks3528  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello,
      Considering the placement of the motor I would also assume that it is belt driven since it can't be direct drive.this does have a soft start but you do feel a slight jerk when first powering it up. It's not an inconvenience or something hard to overcome. This saw has held up very well I haven't noticed any wiggling or jiggling in any of the pieces. Once I lock it in it stays where it's at. My main complaints, if you want to call them that, are...
      1. I hate the laser and wish it had a backlight like the 24v miter does. It's not accurate and I can't see it under my shop lights.
      2. The dust collection while adequate is subpar. But most are. I'm going to make a rubber shoot behind the blade to help with that and I need to upgrade my shop back to a dust collection system.
      3. This one's more than me being picky... I need to make a zero clearance insert for it I don't like how the insert dips down lower than the table and I do a lot of small cuts that wind up falling through.
      Other than all that I am very pleased with the saw I replace the blade with the Diablo. At the price point I don't think you could get much better. And it has served me well over the last two years. So much so that I use it more than my table saw.
      Thanks for watching.

    • @lumberhacks3528
      @lumberhacks3528  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that is true... However I have come to find that my laser is not adjustible to the extent I need. I've got some more toying around to do. But here's my issue. When I center the laser on a scribed line and then grab the saw and pull it down the laser moves to the left. So the laser can only be used for initial alignment before you pull the saw down. I'm not sure if the laser is mounted improperly or what the exact issue is yet. Thanks for the comment.

      On the left side of the saw you will see a small screw above the blade guard close to the center of the saw. Loosen that bolt up a bit but don't take off. Then push the blade guard back and that should expose the arbor bolt. Then you can use an Allen wrench to remove the bolt using the button on the right side of the saw to lock the blade. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

    Stay away from Kobalt. Bought one and after a year of use it is broken, and there's no warranty through Kobalt.
