Hi Vince. I just want to give ya big thank you for your review of this saw.
I purchased this saw a little over a year ago based on this review. I've since used this saw pretty heavily all this past summer doing 3 composite decks and a complete vinyl siding job on our new house. I changed the blade to a 60T Diabolo for this work. It cut the vinyl like butter. FWIW, one has to pull the blade thru the vinyl rather than the traditional push thru in order to get clean, non-chipped cuts. I got precise cuts on all the composite decking as well...all flawless. It's a great saw, especially at this price point.
Here recently, I pulled that blade back off and gave it a good cleaning prior to starting the next phase of our house project. I've recently been doing window trim work primarily following the method used at Finish Carpentry TV (Richard)....all using this saw. So far, so good!!! Love this thing!!
    Again, thanks!!!

Thanks so much for leaving this awesome comment, myself and creators like Richard really appreciate the kind words and hearing your experiences!
I’m glad the review is helpful and I hope the saw and blade give you many more years and projects worth of work!

      Vince

I just got it for 230$ including tax. I’m quickly falling in love with Skil. Their 14amp router combo is the best value out there, hands down. It’s gone as low as 100. I’m using this saw primarily to break down lumber and will soon need it for a lot of quick cuts when I move into a new place/shop. As far as I can tell with the few test cuts, it’s dead on straight from the factory. Good job skil

Thanks for reviewing the Skil 10”. I’m a fan of Skil products. I inherited a table saw, it’s probably 30 yrs. old works great. I’m a DYI person. I appreciate you really doing such a thorough review. The light / shadow bothers me. I have a Skil circular saw, the laser is non existent in the sun. Sailboat rehab - that’s the sun issue. There was a mention in another comment about changing the blade…going to find one at the store for more investigation. Really appreciate all you great videos.

I've had my 10" Skil miter saw for a while now and I gotta say it is a real nice machine. I has all the major features and it does everything it's supposed to do. Stock blade is ok for a while but you'll need to replace it with a better one, but that's common.

Bought it a few months ago. Accurate out of the box, doesn’t feel cheap, shadow line is excellent and way better than a laser, clean cuts with stock blade, fairly light, smooth slide, easy to adjust mitre and bevel, and plenty of small features like decent markers etc. The only thing I don’t like is it has poor sawdust collection. Great buy for the money.

skil is my preferred brand but my next miter saw must have the rails forward of the fence, not behind the fence. as a DIYer my miter saw has a dedicated space in my garage and i dont have the real-estate for a miter saw with the rails behind the fence. The foot print of these types of saws is 8-10 inches deeper than the others.

    Woodworking Beginner: Update.
This test is only if you want to saw with precision with a miter saw.(test is not intended for rough and hard work).
Tips and Test: Remember this test is only about torsion.
Very important if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)!
Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a VERTICAL line above the saw blade.
Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt.
Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing .
And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft.
It is very important that everything is aligned.
Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade.
First option: handle vertical positioned in line above the saw blade.
    Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / Bosch GCM 8 SDE / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact/ Bosch PCM 8 SD / Hitachi C10FSH / Evolution Fury3-S / Evolution R255SMS / Metabo HPT C10FSBS / Hitachi C10FSB / Hitachi C10FS.
Second optie: handle horizontal positioned in line above the saw blade / Evolution R185SMS / Evolution F255SMS / Evolution RAGE3R255 SMS3 / Ridgid MS255SR 10-inch
(This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails).
(If you want). You can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing.
Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick to this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw (the wood it will remain in place until the test is completed).
Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand or finger on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine.
Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing.
    (test is completed).
Step-4. Therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned VERTICAL in line above the saw blade.
The second option is the handle positioned HORIZONTAL in line above the saw blade.
Step-5. When you measure the vertical 90 degrees angle square (Digital Level Box) of you're sawblade don't forget that there is always some torsion in the aluminum housing.
Conclusion: how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing, you better not go for that. Remember this, the test is only about torsion and nothing else. (the choices are yours).
Also with a cheap slide miter saw it is still better the handgriff in line a above the saw blade than on the right side. Maybe they will make it someday then we have a winner...

Pushed in the button to lock the blade (for changing) and released it, blade spun again until I turned it on with the motor. Sent it back trying to decide if I want another or a different brand.

I enjoyed your video. I bought one of these a couple of months ago. So far so good but I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't have any detents for bevels between 90 degrees and 45 degrees. Also, when I first took it out of the box I was impressed with the cam operated hold-down clamp for quick adjustments but two minor problems: I doesn't tighten as much as a screw down clamp and I wish it was tall enough to go over the top of the high extended fence. But other that than that I like it so far. UPDATE: another disappointment with this saw is that it doesn't have a 30 degree miter detent. I made a cut at 30 degrees but it wasn't accurate enough to make a hexagonal planter without trial and error, Another saw in this price range, Kobalt 10" has more detents. Still, overall I like the saw though there is room for improvement.

Just picked one up and will be returning it. The outer supports are about 15-20thousands lower than the turn table (right support lower than the left). This is a big issue if you clamp on the supports (which is mostly the case) the work piece will be uphill towards the blade and not cut square no matter how square the blade is. I had this issue with a cheap "entry level" unit and swore i would never own one like it again, I didn't expect it on a $300 machine. I will keep looking...

Quick question, when you tested the miter and the bavel with cutting angles on the trim piece, were you holding it against a 90 degree protector?
The saw will cut a plane on the trim piece regardless of how wrong the miter or the bavel angle is, so if you just hold them together, the planes are going to match anyway. The real question would be whether they would match if held against a 90 degree protector or any corner that is 90 degree.

Having used this saw for 3 months doing trim carpentry. It is NOT accurate lots of play in the rails and the table moves independent of the fence. I have tightened it and adjusted it but there is no adjustment for the rails.the best part is the led light.

So was it accurate when it was new and something happened to make it not accurate? I ask because the one being tested in this video was spot on.

@vcgconstruction Do you think an extra $125 is worth it for the extra quality/durability/capacity of the Dewalt DWS779? Or save the $125 and go with this Skil10" slider? Love your channel by the way!

DeWalt stopped making a 10" duel-bevel compound miter saw. In fact the Skil might be the only one left to have these feature in a 10" model. Is'a nice tool.

your first mistake is saying "extra quality/durability/capacity". that's just not correct anymore. unfortunately dewalt is going the way of stanley and mastercraft. I will tell you this saw is the corded version of a Milwaukee 10". Same engineering, same machining as the new milwaukee cordless line. I was able to remove the rail slide lock-knob from my $550 cordless milwaukee and use it on the rail slider lock-knob of the skil. if the parts are interchangeable with another brand, you know they were cut from the same cloth. If you were standing at the factory and saw this in production you would be amazed to see how it is one isle away from the top tier brands. In fact, I would put money on the dewalt tools being made at the cheaper factory down the road. They went with top-knotch on this specific tool, cant speak for their other products.

I’m looking to purchase my first miter saw for crown molding and board & batten, looking at 10” skil for $200 or $500 10” Milwaukee m18…note I’m in the Milwaukee platform.
