I just bought one of these and this video really helped me get ready to start using it! I'm a 78 year old female artist and I want to start making my own frames. I think this will work wonderfully!
If you are making frames, the opposing sides have to be the exact same size, or your joints will have gaps. I would either use a stop or double side tape them together and cut at the se time. Also, these can make make clamping easy. amzn.to/3RYBSiM
I just bought this saw today. I stood there like a fool looking at this one and the Chicago Electric for about ten minutes trying to decide if this one was worth the extra $100. Then I saw this review and it sounds like I got it right. You pointed out features of the saw I didn't know about. I'd be running around for the next ten years with the cord dangling, but not now! Thanks a bunch for all the detail and your time. And 5 stars for no music !!!
Thanks for the feedback. When I watch TH-cam it is for information not entertainment. That is what I try to put in my videos. The most information without wasting your time with cool intro clips and music.
I just got one of these too. I learned a bunch from your video! I bought it used with no manual. You showed me stuff I didn't know it had! Thank you!!!
@@ShopRamblingsreally? I was just at my local HF and they had on the sales floor. I’ve been debating if I should go with the Bauer or the 10” Craftsman.
Just bought this Bauer slider yesterday and its still in the box. This Morning I ran across Your Information Vid. EXCELENT information. So glad to find this. You did a Great Job explaining adjustments and operation. Now I know where to start. Today I unbox and start My adjustments and install the new blade and start cutting. Actually won't be using it much . Just when I need it, so should last a long time. I thank You for Your info...
Out of all the miters saw I have bought in the last few years, this is the one i have kept. It doesn't fit where I need a miter saw but I just couldn't justify selling it. Be sure to test it before making adjustment. Most should be good out of the box.
Best review video I've watched, I appreciate your attention to detail and going through EVERYTHING this has because when I got mine tonight I was clueless. Now I feel like I have some confidence in using it! Thanks.
I have been using the Chicago Electric Miter saw for 3 years now, and never could get totally accurate cuts from it, and the adjustment mechanism started giving me problems where it would slip out of the levering mechanism, I just would reach under the rail and slide the locking mechanism with my hand and set the angle where I wanted. It's good for cutting up pallets still, and rough cutting larger boards to manageable sizes, but I definitely am glad I bought this new miter saw especially after seeing this review. I'm ambidextrous, and often use my right hand to hold a piece of wood to make small cuts that required an angle that the Chicago Electric saw could only do 1 way, so now that's not going to be an issue being able to make angle cuts from either side. I will be unboxing my new saw tomorrow as soon as I clear out a place for it in the shop. lol
I never had a miter saw before, I bought this model and I unboxed not knowing how to use it. You are so informative and knowledgeable. You showed me alot of switches I never knew did what. Cant wait to start using my saw. I am gng to watch this a few times to remember what is what. Can you do a video for bow to calibrate the saw. Love the video Bro. Thank you!
I am not a paid youtuber so it is hard for me to find time to work full time, do my projects and put out videos. ( I have 3 videos started now I need to finish) So no promises but I will try to film this for you on my next day off. If one person ask there are many more that are looking for the same thing but don't ask so I prioritize any request.
Glad I could help. If you seen many of my videos you may have seen I have a dozen Ridgid tools. I have had dozens of DeWalt. Both are good brands but sometime new designs can out preform the old tried and true.
Great video. I had picked up the Chicago Electric and was so disappointed in a few things I took it back and bought this model. Was happy you pointed out so many things. I don't have alot of experience with these saws so your video was real helpful. Thank you.
Really appreciate you putting this review out there. Looks like a lot of saw for the money. Even at full price. Been holding off on buying a new miter saw in anticipation of how the Bauer saw would come with in features and price. This ones a top contender. Only thing giving me poise is the warranty. I don’t expect it’ll fail. Just that chance you end up with a lemon. Will be interesting to see what the sale prices look like on the Bauer.
In my experience, they will put out a super coupon once they are in stores. I would guess the price at $170 - $180. The only modification I am considering is a zero clearance plate and possibly getting the Jet saw handle to see if it will be a direct replacement. It is only around $20. If I replace it, it will be more out of curiosity than need.
At around $170, I think the Bauer is a no brainer. Guess I just need to keep an eye out for the first round of sale pricing. I’ve seen that some of the stores in my area have slowly been getting them in. So hopefully the first coupons hit sooner, rather than later. I do wonder what parts availability will be like in the event something breaks.
Just watching your vid now. But I'm reading this Bauer 10" has the shadow line light marker on your material. That's a feature i like & that neither the Chicago Elec. or the Admiral Advantage 12" miter doesn't have 😁👍
You are correct the Bauer does have the shadow line.. It works great for me. The shadow line is what most higher in saws are coming with now and I am surprised with it along with some of the other features that they've put in the power saw.
Bought this a couple days ago to redo our floors with LVP. As a dude, of course I had to unbox, setup, and pull the trigger right away. I LOVE the shadow line! Upgrading from 10" Chicago Electric non sliding with laser line. I am a big diy'er but don't need 100% perfection and this vid helped assure me I made a good buy. Love HF tools but always hesitant. Good work!
I love the shadow line also. I am going to help someone equip and setup a new shop next week. They did not give me a set budget. We are well over $10,000 in already. This is probably the saw i am going to put in. It feels a little weird putting in a saw that cost so little but I can't justify spending 4x more for only a small increase in quality and features. If I ever get time I would love to make a zero clearance fence for it.
I purchased this saw based on this video. Got it $40 off through the Bauer Days promotion on 11 Dec 2020. Blade looks square out of the box for 90 degrees when checked against my speed square. Fence looks close enough for me, I’ll need a micrometer though. Didn’t check other angles. Seems solid, easy to use, and I am left handed but am used to working with right handed tools. I was all set to get the 12 inch Hercules, but heard about this saw and watched this video. Thank you for the video! The Hercules is nice, but this saw will satisfy 99% of what a DIY amateur woodworker needs.
I agree. The Hercules is a great saw but it if you are not needing to cut boards bigger than 4x12 I don't feel the need of having to move around the extra weight.
I’ve owned the Chicago Electric Tool fixed 10 inch mitre saw for 7 years and used it to build a desk, and a cat tree and scratching pole without any problems except that it’s not capable of cutting 4x4’s in one pass/cut. This Bauer 10 inch sliding miter saw will be my next purchase so I can cut 4x4’s in one pass/cut.
Just put this saw on a Hercules stand from HF. Looked at the square news. Yep out about the same as yours was. Well this was on a job no time to worry about minuta at this moment. Will take of the hundreds of a inch before cutting angles. It is a good solid saw at a very reasonable price.
I just bought one of these miter saws have not used it yet but seems well built my first sliding miter purchase going to try it out on a porch build well see how it does your video was helpful learned more about the saw thanks buddy
Great review. I was on the fence with this. Thank you. And thanks for the music ! Love "Bad Case of Loving You" and "Addicted to Love". "Simply Irresistible" is a great one too. Obviously I'm joking about the music, and probably not the first to use them. Thanks for putting up with it, lol.
I just bought this saw used and after watching this video, I'm glad i did. With a saw like this, what is the best way to cut crown molding as there does not seem to be a clamp in front. Thanks.
This saw is identical to the one sold at Menard's as the MasterForce brand and is $89 more. Great review, Robert, went down to my local Harbor Freight and bought one. The saw is awesome!!!
I have seen this same saw sold under three different names. The price at HF is the lowest I have seen it. There is not a week that goes by I don't use mine. Was the fence square with the blade out of the box?
@@ShopRamblings I did not have to touch anything. Everything was within .2 of a degree which is awesome!! I will use it to install treads and risers on our upstair stairs.
Can you tell me what the measurement is from the front mounting holes of the base, to the back of the slide tubes? I plan to mount it to a work bench along a wall and I may need to widen my counter top.... Thanks
Just got this on discount from harbor freight.... I am blown away by how nice it is. I guess only negative thing I can think of is the dust pick up being not that good, couple of cuts in with the provided bag to test it and I can tell you that might as well not had a bag on, but I am sure it would do far better with vac. Great review.
Ii didn't even think about the bag in my video. I never put it on. I have owned several different brand miter saws. I have never seen one with good passive dust collection. With the collector wrapping around the blade it works better than most with a vacuum.
Great information and help deciding on this Bauer miter saw. Is the miter SS detent plate adjustable? Downloaded the manual but did not see any mention of adjustment .
There are screws at each end. You may be able to adjust it there. I locked mine into the 0⁰ detent an adjusted the fence. Once it was zeroed all of the other detents were dead on for me.
I am the same way. I don't need a 12" saw to cut 3/4 wood. I like the 10" because I can buy one size blade and use it on either my miter or table saw. I was going to buy the Delta Cruzer. All the major retailers have removed the 10" version from the sites including Delta. I had the Dewalt 12" and it was just to big and heavy.
If you can live with a 7-1/4", check out the Ryobi on special for $99 - www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-18-Volt-ONE-Cordless-7-1-4-in-Compound-Miter-Saw-Tool-Only-with-Blade-and-Blade-Wrench-P553/307298546
Nice saw. I couldn’t wait for the Bauer 10 inch. I got a Craftsman 10inch before Sears closed. I found one with the slide bars reversed. I have it mounted on work bench so space behind saw is close to wall. They need to make a miter saw with reverse slide bar for close quarters
Just pick this saw up to install hardwood flooring last week. Had an old perfomax that was a piece of crap. Can never get true square from a cut. But this saw cuts dead on square rite out of the box. Price was at $249 with $40 discount from Bauer $209 + tax. Well worth the price.
I am glad it worked for you. I have not had a single negative comment about this saw from anyone who has used it. There are always people who want to say there's is better because they paid more. When I have time I may make a zero clearance fence but there is nothing else I can find to improve.
I just bought it Saturday I put a all purpose Diablo blade and the blade jammed in the 2x4 green pt. With peaces flying everywhere.. why did it do that..
Not completely sure what you are saying. So this may or may not apply. A combo blade is trys to do a decent rip cut and cross cut with one blade. A miter saw is made to do cross cuts. I would at a minimum use a cross cut blade. All of my saw have a sliding miter saw blade. They usually have a negative tooth angle around 6⁰. A rip blade has larger teeth and a more aggressive tooth angle. It will still cut on a miter saw but you have to control the speed you push the blade into the wood. With the larger teeth and positive angle it can try and dig into the wood to fast. This is especially true with soft woods like pine. Years ago I would use a blade like this. Diablo by Freud D1060X 10" x 60 Tooth Fine Finish amzn.to/3g85zO6 Now I use this blade. Freud LU91R010: 10" Thin Kerf Sliding Compound Miter Saw Blade amzn.to/3E7ZM36 If you just bought your blade for Home Depot they should let you return it. Are you can keep using the one you have. Just make sure you hold the trigger for a second before starting the cut to make sure the blade is a full speed. Then make make the cut at a steady pace and not let the saw dig in to fast. This is going to be the same for any saw.
I just purchased the Ridgid R4222, but it is more than what I need. I was looking to exchange for the 10" version, Ridgid R4210, but it doesn't seem to be available anymore. I may go with this one now.
I was looking at getting the 10 Ridgid also but they disappeared around October. I was also looking at the 10" Delta Cruz. It also disappeared. That is why I got the Bauer. So far I have been happy with it.
Thank you for that terrific video. I just bought one and I am having a heck of a time trying to unscrew the guard plate screw to insert a blade. I'm afraid of stripping the screw. Any suggestions?
I just bought one of these. It came out of the box locked in the 45 degree position and no matter what I do I can not get it out of that position. Is there something I missed or something I am doing wrong?? I feel like an idiot because I can not find a release to make it usable. It is not usable in the position its in. Any help appreciated!!
@@ShopRamblings its the bevel. I contacted the store I got it from and they are going to get me a new saw. I need it for my business and every day I am down is money lost. It appears that the pull button on the back of the saw to get it to 0 on the bevel is damaged on the inside. I tried to get it to pull out by hand as well as using a pair of channel locks and it will not budge. So I'm just going to return it for a new one and I will make sure it works before I leave the store with it. Thanks for asking sir your interest was and is greatly appreciated.
Thank You for the Awesome video. I've been looking for a new saws lately . Menards has the same IDENTICAL saw badged as a Masterforce in a green color. $319 dollars. Looks like they came out of the same Factory. I guess I can save a $100 bucks at Harbor Freight. Thanks again.
I believe they made the same saw under several different names. the base is the same as the jet saw that they sell at rockler's for about 450 bucks. Although this one has the upgraded fence. You can tell that the machine marks are different on the fence than the main portion of the saw bed. So for half the price you get the best part of the saw with upgrades. So for me this is a no-brainer purchase. I posted a video last night on the Ridgid planer. At the end of the video is a couple of pictures of shiplap and cabinets that I use this power saw to cut. I cut a couple of hundred boards and every single one of them was perfect angles. What I don't have is the mantle which I used a compound 45° 45° to make a hidden mount. I cut all the compound angles on this saw and everything fit perfectly when I slid the metal on all I had to do is give it a couple little bumps with the palm of my hand and it popped in place. I did not even double check the angles on the saw I just use the detents
THE best 10" sliding miter (in the $200 range). I purchased 3 others all within one week. Ryobi 10" sliding had way too much kick at start(scary) and brake hardly slowed the blade down. Kobalt 7-14" sliding had too much loose play in various places such as the blade, the lever arm (real flimsy lock design - look at it). The Kobalt 7-1/4" did start up nicely and the brake worked great...prob due to smaller blade. I also had a TackLife 10" sliding which was ok, but didn't have a brake. It took 6sec to come to a stop, whereas the Kobalt took 1sec. Don't let the HarborFreight "cheap tools" stigma disuade you. Bauer (& Hercules) build quality is really very impressive. I don't want to get into detailed "this vs that" but stop by HarbFr and check out the display model. (not at all affiliated-lol). Oh, I also saved 10% w/coupon!
I agree with everything you said. There are some HF tools that are cheap and some that are priced equal to Name Brand tools. I find this tool to be well balanced between quality and price. For a standard miter saw I belive this is the best value one can find.
I use it often. I was had to use the slide just yesterday. For two different projects I was working on. I guess it would just depend on what you commonality build.
I don't know if there is another model of Skilsaw but the one I seen does not have any of the features the Bauer does. Send me a model number and I can say for sure. Between the Skil MS6305-00 and the Bauer I would definitely go with the Bauer without a doubt.
If it fits your budget this is my number 2 pick. www.lowes.com/pd/DELTA-Steel-Adjustable-Rolling-Miter-Saw-Stand/50237913 I have used this one for years. It is a good stand as the others were over $200. With the recent sales the better stands have been almost the same price. www.harborfreight.com/mobile-miter-saw-stand-62750.html
Thanks. I went with a WEN that seems to be able to bolt anything to. Should arrive tomorrow. Thanks for all your help. Most important is the saw and your reviews were great!!
Hi! Silly question from a first time miter saw user. Got this one for Christmas so I can install a new floor in my walk in closet. That’s done. Now it’s time to install new baseboards. How the heck do I bevel this machine to the right?!?
This test is only if you want to saw with precision with a miter saw.(test is not intended for rough and hard work). Tips and Test: Very important if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)! Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a VERTICAL line above the saw blade. Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt. Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing . And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft. It is very important that everything is aligned. Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade. first option: Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / Bosch GCM 8 SDE / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact / Bosch PCM 8 SD / Hitachi C10FSH / Ridgid MS255SR 10-inch / Evolution Fury3-S / Evolution R255SMS / Metabo HPT C10FSBS / Hitachi C10FSB / Hitachi C10FS. Second optie handle horizontal positioned above the saw blade / Evolution R185SMS / Evolution F255SMS / Evolution RAGE3R255 SMS3 . (This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails). (If you want). You can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing. Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick to this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw (the wood it will remain in place until the test is completed). Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand (finger) on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine. Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing (test is completed). Step-4. Therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned VERTICAL in line above the saw blade. The second option is the handle positioned HORIZONTAL in line above the saw blade. Step-5. When you measure the vertical 90 degrees angle square (Digital Level Box) of you're sawblade don't forget that there is always some torsion in the aluminum housing. Conclusion:how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing don't go for that (the choices are yours). Also with a cheap slide miter saw it is still better the handgriff in line a above the saw blade than on the right side. Maybe they will make it someday then we have a winner...
I agree 100% with you. Doing construction work using construction materials close is good enough. As I have started doing finer woodworking with better materials, a few hundreds off shows. The Chicago Electric miter saw when fully extended you can get a full blade thickness of deflection. I had planed on buying the Delta Cruzer thinking the articulating arms would be more accurate. It seems they have discontinued the 10in model. It was 3 time as expensive as this saw. I looked up several of the saws you mentioned. They all look like nice saws. Most cost twice as much as this one. This one looked like it could be nice and I figured if I didn't like it I could take it back. I spent a couple of hours cutting with this saw. At first I was not very impressed. After I got it zeroed in it surprised me. I was not taking care how I pulled the handle. At around 10 inches it was only .004 out of square. Every angle cut was dead on. With the 15 amp motor it never pulled a load. I had a lot of video I had to cut out. I can't find anything I would change on the saw. I still can't believe the quality for the price.
I ordered it online and paid the $7 shipping. It arrived in 2 days. I find at Harbor Freight that their new items will be posted on the website first. Then it'll take a couple of months before they get in all the stores. After they are in stores they then normally have a coupon for around 25% off. I would normally wait until the first coupon came out but I was not sure if I would like the Saw being that it was this cheap. I figured I could test it out and if I didn't like it I could always take it back and still be able to take advantage of some Black Friday specials. But I am going to keep this saw unless something drastic happens on my next days off when I test it some more.
@@ShopRamblings the thing I usually can’t justify with HF is the warranty. By the time you buy the warranty you’ve paid as much as a name brand. However, I guess the perk is that once you buy that warranty you can exchange for a brand new tool no matter what, which a lot of other companies won’t let you do. Looks like a nice saw though!
@@matthewburch6604 I do not buy the ones that cost as much as the big brands. I don't buy the extra warranty. I was told by someone in the industry that extended warrantys have the highest profit margins and I believe it. Last week I bought a name brand tool that had Lifetime Service Agreement written on 5 sides of the box. When I scanned it in the self check out the register went into lock down mode until an employee came over and put in his code and verified that he asked me to purchase an extended warranty. Many time HF has their tools made in the same overseas factory as the name brand for a fraction of the price. I believe this is the Jet saw that sells for $600. I have purchased hundreds of tools. Only a few have failed within the warranty period. With the money I save I can replace them and still be ahead. Years ago I had mostly Dewalt at my company. It was a small business but I still spent over $500 a year on the overpriced batteries. I have tools of almost every brand. I don't spend extra just for a name and I don't like cheap tools that don't work. I am always looking for value.
Help me lol. I just finally opened mine up. Christmas present from my father. I asked for a miter saw. I'm new to being a casual wood worker. Anyways this thing is way bigger than I expexted. I'm not sure what to set it on. Could you recommend a stand for this saw or the best way to improvise one using a table or bench?
I like the Ridgid stands if you can get them on sale. There are a few different brands but the ones with the big wheels at the bottom are much better than the rest.
It is a RIDGID Universal Mobile Miter Saw Stand with Mounting Braces. By far the best style stand. It is the same as the Delta one. If you watch you can get a deal on them at Direct Tool Outlet when they have them in stock. I paid $79 a few years ago at black friday. DTO normally sells them $129 and HD $249.

This is a great saw. I got mine a while ago, dialed it in and it is dead accurate. Has anyone tried replacing the shadow light bulb? Mine stopped working.
Mine is also not working correctly. I took it apart and the DC converter is putting out 10 vdc. It should be around 3 vdc. When I have time I will replace it and find out for sure if it is the led or the power supply.
3 ปีที่แล้ว
@@ShopRamblings would love to know what you find out. I have the replacement warranty, but it's a one-time, 12-month replacement plan. I'm hesitant to replace the whole saw (and carry the sucker back to a store) for a $2 LED light if I can just replace it myself and keep the warranty for a major failure.
I didn't measure it but it looked like a 20mm star led. I am going to take it back apart and measure it. It should be cheap and easy to fix if I find the right part.
3 ปีที่แล้ว
@@ShopRamblings so I found an exact replacement for the light bulb, painstakingly soldered it, and it didn't;t work... Any other ideas what might cause the shadow light to fail? Last resort I will exchange the whole saw it for a new one!
@ I tool the saw apart and shot some video. I have ordered some part but have not had time to film fixing it. I am in the middle of a couple of projects. When I tested voltage I was getting around 10vdc. The voltage converter said it was supposed to be 3.8vdc. The circuit board also looked like it may have been overheated. HF doesn't have any parts for it yet so I may just find an old dc power supply and scavenge the board out of it.
There is never an absolute best. It would depend on the material for one thing. Is it hardwood, softwood, MDF, PVC ot something else? Are you taking your time and not rushing to make every cut perfect? Are you only going to cut a couple of boards or are you going to be cutting 8 hours a day 5 days a week? Here are the basics. The more teeth the smoother the cut. The more teeth the quicker the blade will clog. All blades will cut good when they are sharp. The more expensive the blade the longer it will stay sharp or the more times you can sharpen it. Then you start to get into tooth shape. Just making assumptions based on the normal person ask this question I would say the Diablo Ultra Fine Finish should give good results. It is not the cheapest but is outrageously expensive. I use one for cutting delicate sheet stock. Depending on the material, to get perfect cuts don't rush the cut. Let the blade do the work and if possible make a 0 clearance insert.
I used mine for several years. One of the best things that I liked about the saw is it had the widest cut of any miter saw I have found. What I hate about this song is it sticks out further than any saw I've had. Where my miter station is in my new shop the saw stuck out in the way. I need it something closer to the wall so I got the Delta Cruiser and the Bosch Glide. I settled on the Bosch but I did Keep the Bower just because out of all the miter saws I've used I'd like to eat the best if you have room for it. The only bad thing really about the Bauer is here in Florida if you leave the shadow line on it will burn out. I replaced mine and I rewired the switch. The way it was Wired from the factory is the DC power converter is powered anytime the saw is plugged in. I changed it to where it is only powered once the switch is turned on. I don't know if that's what made the difference but I never had the LED go out after I changed the wiring.
@@ShopRamblings my concern is basically whether or not the vac system you are using is effective or does the saw design still allow dust to fly around all over. Some saws could be connected to a jet engine for suction and there is still a copious amount of saw dust on the table.
@@bayoubiker7834 I did a video were I cleaned to floor and saw, cut a 2x4 about 80 times and sweep up to saw dust. With a shop vac about 80% was on the floor. With a 2hp dust collector about 20% was on the floor. I currently have the saw connected into the shop dust collector. I glued a couple small blocks of wood to the side and made the shroud a little bigger. It puts out more dust than any of my tools that are connected to the dust collector. It is also the best miter saw I have had at dust collection. Other than a festol I don't know of any sliding miter saws that are great a dust collection.
@@ShopRamblings This is good information. I appreciate your input. I know that the miter saws are sloppy, but its sounds like the Bauer is tolerable. P.S. With the cost of the Festol considered.....it better be stellar at dust collection. ;-)
In my last video on repairing the shadow line you can see the shroud I have on my saw. It has helped. Now I see that it works I will make a nicer one and may do a video on it when I have the time.
Most all of them are the same. I believe I got mine from Home Depot. Here is one I found on Amazon.www.amazon.com/Preciva-Protractor-Stainless-Functions-Included/dp/B087F8TBH7/ref=mp_s_a_1_14?dchild=1&keywords=digital+protractor&qid=1611831465&sr=8-14
Thanks for this video Robert. I just picked one of these yesterday from a HF out the box special for just under $180 with the membership I also purchased to get a $10 discount. Other than I think it might be missing the lower blade guard, I was wondering about some wrench it says it also should have come with aside from the dust bag. I think the wrench is the phillips hex dual sided tool that is housed within the saw? I downloaded the manual but didn't say much about the included tool. I'd like to keep it but wonder about their 90 day warranty though out of the box I only have 5 days to return it if i don't want the thing since its an open item. Wondering if the price difference I am saving is not really worth it since wasn't even offered an extended warranty. Dewalt comes with 3 years so yeah it's pricey but perhaps worth it, ya get what you pay. I am a lady and this is my 1st miter saw, and big tool purchase. I appreciate what you did here.
It is all about risk vs reward. This is a 10" sliding miter saw. It sales for around $250 with a 90 day warranty. The shadow line has a defective design and the dc converter is powered anytime the saw is plugged in. If the saw stays plugged in for months like mine does in a hot shop it doesn't last. To me the shadow line was nice but not a necessity. Other than that if the saw runs like it should and the fence is square there is not reason to think that is going to change in the next 2 years. Dewalt DW717 is their 10" sliding miter saw. It runs $500 if you can find it. They are discontinuing it. The way I look at it if this saw breaks and you have to buy another one in a few years you will be at the same amount of money had you bought the Dewalt but with a 2 year newer saw. Other than the shadow line I have not heard of many other problems with this saw. To have 2 saws go bad in less than 3 years would be some bad luck. I left mine outside for a week while I was out of town during some nasty storms and mine still runs like new. The Ryobi 10" sliding saw is $180 new but I don't think it is as good of a saw. So you can get a lesser saw with a warranty. The only brand I do not like is Dewalt. When I owned my company all of the power tools in my shop and on every service truck was Dewalt. I have had decades of experience and have spent thousands on Dewalt tools. I will never buy another Dewalt power tool. If you want a quality 10" miter saw I would look at the Ridgid R4241. It is $400 and I believe is a much better saw than the Dewalt. The tool is just an allen wrench with a phillips on the other end. It is stuck in the back of the left rail. You only need it when chaging the blade which should not be that often. No matter what saw you get, buy a good blade. The blade makes more difference and the saw. Freud make a "Sliding Miter Saw" blade. It has a neg tooth angle and makes great cuts on an miter saw. Hope this helps.
@@ShopRamblings You are awesome Robert! I looked again and got the dual tool where you said it was, also the clamp and safety guard for the blade so nothing is missing. Only the manual but I did get that online as I think I had said. I am keeping it, because at this point I didn't have time to take it back and only had 5 days. I've not even plugged it in yet because its been crazy raining here and I spent all day yesterday and all night tonight trying to rearrange my garage so I could get to the plug so I don't have to run a long cord and lose any power form an extension that would be way longer than 10' to the nearest outlet otherwise. I'm new to this stuff so if it helps me build a nice work table for myself and complete the few projects I am wanting to do around here then I am a happy camper. SMILES
I have bought 3 of these saws. Only one I could not get it to cut angles perfect but it was still within 0.2°. I was still able to get to dead on 90°. This is closer than what my skill needed or required for years. Most residential outlets are 15amp wired with 14ga wire. A 25' cord with 14ga wire is not much different than using an outlet on the other side of the room. I buy extension cords with 12ga wire. I run saws on 100' cords with no problem. 12ga cords can be expensive (over $100) but if you keep a lookout on Brickseek and Den of Tools Facebook page you can catch them for around $30.
@@ShopRamblings You rock! Fortunately I have one that's 50'' and works from far back corner where I cleared a path to get to the outlet. I will have to use my circular saw for what I have to cut today because the boats are too large to manipulate to use the miter saw on without a table or even a stand yet. I do everything backwards and end up with a whole workshop of tools this way LOL
Keep an eye out for a price drop on the Rigid AC9946. I got a couple last year on Black Friday for $79. They are a few different brands that are the same but this style of stand works the best. Your friend has shared a link to a Home Depot product they think you would be interested in seeing: RIDGID Universal Mobile Miter Saw Stand with Mounting Braces www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-Universal-Mobile-Miter-Saw-Stand-with-Mounting-Braces-AC9946/206992161 SKU# 206992161
Not any real issues. I like the shadow line but it is hard to see if you are outside. The handle still feel weird left handed. During Bauer days they raised the price but it has come back down since. With that said my friend is setting up a new shop and had him buy this saw yesterday.
Short answer No. This saw and all miter saws I have seen have short arbor when a bolt that screws into the end to hold the blade on. Table saws have a threaded arbor an inch or so long with a nut that screws on. When putting 2-6 blades on that make up a dado stack you need the arbor to be able to reach through all the blades. The depth stop is not a solid stop. I would not get this saw to do dodo cuts. If that is what you are planning on doing you need a table saw.
Thanks Robert. I just got the same saw but cannot find a stand to bolt it onto. I see you did bolt it to a table stand. Which one did you use and do you recommend it? It looks like it may be a Rigid miter saw stand, is it?
This is the stand I use and love it. www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-Universal-Mobile-Miter-Saw-Stand-with-Mounting-Braces-AC9946/206992161 There are a couple of different brands but this is the best style I have found. Lowes sells the Delta one but right now the Ridgid is the cheapest. If you watch direct tool outlet the have them for as low as $80 sometimes.
The holes lined up. I did get some different lenth bolts. I could have used the ones in the box but i put the bolts coming up from the bortom and did not want them sticking up past the nuts.
Well it looks like Home Depot does not have them and does not know when they will. I don't live near a Direct Tool. Any other stands that may work? I see a WEN that claims it will fit all miter saws, know anything about it? Does Bauer suggest a stand?
I'm just getting started in woodworking, and think I will buy this saw. What is the measuring device that you are using? Thanks for such a great review. I learned a lot from this video.
I went to harbor freight today and bought a decent miter saw stand. It was $69 and might cut with my miter saw 10 times a month. How do you like your stand.
What stand are you referring to. I have several different ones. Any stand makes a huge difference. I will never buy another miter saw without buying a stand. Currently I think the best deal is the Ridgid stand at Direct Tool Outlet.
@@ShopRamblings I just bought a Dewalt 12” dual bevel but it doesn’t slide. I sold my old Dewalt 10” but I think I’d like to get a sliding 10” and have my non sliding 12”. I want something fairly light. I originally purchased a Ridgid sliding 12” but it was over 70 pounds and it was just too heavy to bring to jobs. My new Dewalt 12” is about 50 which is the most I want to tote around. Is this saw you’re showing fairly light in weight?
I am at work, so I can make a video showing it now. If you want to email me your phone number, I will call and walk you through it. Shopramblings@gmail.com
Robert nice review but I was wondering how good is this saw on dust collection. I went over to Harbor freight and the saw is now priced at 250 dollars without a blade. It is well made but not quite the deal it was at 220. The saw looks to be extremely well made
Until the end of the month HF has $40 of $200 purchase of Bauer products. This weekend there is a 15% of with no exclusions coupon. Most miter saws have a hose that attaches to the base and when the blade moves dust collection decreases. The Bauer has the hose connector on the saw with a shroud around the blade. It moves with the saw. It is much better than my Dewalt and Delta saws. It is very similar to the dust collection on the Festool miter saw.
Go on reddit.com and search Harbor Freight 25% off coupon. It's a bar code from a manager that's good for ANYTHING until the end of the year! I got this saw for $187!
@@zebra6331 In that case it is a no brainer. It does look a lot like the Rigid 4210 which has great reviews but is no longer available. I was interested in the dust collection because I want to side my house with fiber cement Hardie or the other manufacture. Thanks for the heads up
I replaced a very basic 10 inch no slide saw with this one today. Seems to work very well. My depth stop is very sturdy though. I got a herc blade just because I needed to use it right away. Now the blue and red is driving me nuts. I want so badly to replace with a Diablo but can’t make myself buy a new blade just based on color. 😂
I agree, the depth stop is not that good but I have never had a miter saw that it was. I am not sure if the is a lot of difference in the Diablo and Hercules blades other than color. In a couple of months you can upgrade to a Freud blade. You can justify it because it is a better blade and it is red.
I have seen someone cut off a finger with a miter saw. It can happen. Unfortunately I have never found a work lock bracket that was quick or easy enough that i would actually use it.
@@colemahaney880 I almost lost 2 on a table saw. I had my had over a foot away from the blade. The board kicked back and jerked my hand with it. You can never be too safe.
Just noticed HF increased the price from $219 to $249. I WAS interested in this saw. Gonna be a hard pass with the new price hike. At ~$200, it seemed like a decent buy. Would have been a really good buy closer to $170-$180. At $250. With a garbage 90 day warranty. No thanks. 😐
I had seen where they raised their price. I still feel that the saw is a great value at that price. But I do believe now it is closer to the price of other name brand saws. Some people will now pay the little extra to go with a name brand they have known for years. They do however have a $40 off all Bauer purchases over $200 until the end of the month which will bring the saw down to $209. I am not sure if they raised the price so that they could give a discount but it's still almost 10% off of the original price.
I hadn’t seen the spend $X, get $X promotion going on. You may be correct that they hiked the price in light of that. So, yeah, at $209 it’s a fairly good deal. But the practice of raising a price like that to reduce the overall savings is kind of slimy. Why not just put the saws on sale at $209 (deal can’t be combined with other offers). Or exclude it from the “deal”. I buy a decent amount of stuff from HF. Their marketing has always been over the top. This just adds another off putting stigma.
I hate coupons or reward cards. Just put the price you want to sell it for and sell it for the same price to everyone. I have seen them have 3 different coupons for different prices valid at the same time for the same item.
While I appreciate your evaluation, it may be wise (and more professional) to provide a final segment summarizing your findings. (Said very respectfully).
you look like a machinist to me especially with the tools you carry, have you ever actually done any finish work or finished out of house yourself? you don't worry about being within a thousand of an inch I've been in the trade for 50 plus years you don't look like any kind of carpenter to me not even a weekend wannabe. when people buy a compound miter saw whether it's sliding or not, it's usually bought for one thing only finish work
I am not a machinist, but I have done machining. I have done trim work. I have seen trim guys who didn't care if they had gaps. They could just fill them with caulk. I know wood will move. I believe if you take a couple of minutes and get your tool set as close to perfect as possible, your finished product has the best chance of looking great. I always shot for perfection but rarely achieve it. Most times, I am close. If my goal was to just be good enough, when I fall short, then the finished product may not be good enough.
I have a Ridgid R4251, same as the Delta Cruzer, still in the box. I am going to do a review on it when I get a chance. This Bauer has been such a good saw it is what I am going to compare it to.
How has this saw held up over the last year or so? I’m looking for a decently priced unit for small projects around the house cutting up 2x4 4x4 and maybe 10” boards max. Would you recommend this one? Also can you recommend a proper blade? Thanks!
I would definitely recommend this saw for the price. Make sure you can get it squared. I have bought 3. Two I got squared and are still squared after thousands of cuts. One I could not get squared and returned. The one major flaw is if you forget to turn off the shadow line and leave the saw plugged in it will stop working. I rewired mine last year and haven't had a problem since. I wanted to get a Delta Cruzer. There was a supply issue so I got this one with plans to swap it when the Delta came back in stock. The Bauer cut perfect angles, some much so that I can't justify upgrading it. This is probably the only blade I will ever use on a miter saw again. amzn.to/3szr1OT

Glad I could help!
This brand owes you big time! You are the best sales person for this saw! 😊
I have had several miter saws. This is one of the best. Too bad they discontinued it. Thanks for watching.

Thank You for that tip......@@ShopRamblings
Best review video I've watched, I appreciate your attention to detail and going through EVERYTHING this has because when I got mine tonight I was clueless. Now I feel like I have some confidence in using it! Thanks.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me. I will be glad to help if I can.
Thanks a bunch! I learned some new things about my saw.
Thank you so much. I love this saw. Since I bought this saw, I have bought 2 Ridgid and a Bosch. This is still my favorite saw.
I will be unboxing my new saw tomorrow as soon as I clear out a place for it in the shop. lol
Let me know what you think after using the new saw.
Great overview. Appreciate the detail. Bought the saw today!
Be sure to let us know what you think after you get to use it some.
Thanks for the thorough review. I really appreciate the money you just saved me from buying a dewalt or ridgid.
Thank you.
They have is on Clearance in some stores. I like 10" miter saws and I think the Bauer is a great saw at a low price.
The shadow cut line seems to be becoming more and more common. Even in less expensive saws. Ryobi saws are one such example.
Great video. My first time using a saw like this and needed this info SO much.
Glad to be a help. Any questions just ask.
I had the Chicago Electric. It was a great saw . The Bauer was a huge improvement.
Just put this saw on a Hercules stand from HF. Looked at the square news. Yep out about the same as yours was. Well this was on a job no time to worry about minuta at this moment. Will take of the hundreds of a inch before cutting angles. It is a good solid saw at a very reasonable price.
It is a little work horse. I feel it is the best bang for the buck.
I just bought one of these miter saws have not used it yet but seems well built my first sliding miter purchase going to try it out on a porch build well see how it does your video was helpful learned more about the saw thanks buddy
I hope you got your porch done. This is a great first mitr saw.

Great review and thanks for the adjustment tips. I'm following and will see what else you're doing. Thanks again!
Awesome, thank you!
I hope getting replacement parts is not as a hassle as I experienced! Blade guard will warp if left in sun!
I got a replacement led. It was not that big of a deal. I am not sure about the guard. Mine has set out in the sun here in Florida with no issues.
I just bought this saw used and after watching this video, I'm glad i did. With a saw like this, what is the best way to cut crown molding as there does not seem to be a clamp in front. Thanks.
To cut crown molding, attach a taller board to the fence. 🛠️ #DIY #HomeImprovement
Thank you! You reinforced my decision to buy this saw.😊👍🏻👍🏻
Let me know what you think after you have used it a while.
Thanks
The cord comes out the back. I would give it 32" but it might fit at 30".
Thanks for the comprehensive review! Very helpful for me in making a decision!!
Glad it helped
i just bought one to replace my 25 yr old dewalt 12in. slide ,seems to be just as good 1/3 the price lets see how long it lasts
I've had mine for several years, and it still works perfectly after I rewire the LEDs for the shadow line.
Once it was zeroed all of the other detents were dead on for me.
nice review I am waiting for the 20volt 8 1/4 slider one to come out I do small projects so the 8 1/4 inch will suit me needs

That is not enough saw for what I do. For the right job, it would be a good saw.
I just bought it and a stand also ... unbox it tomorrow
I have bought several other more expensive miter saws but I have kept my Bauer. It can make cuts other ones can't.
Nice saw. I couldn’t wait for the Bauer 10 inch. I got a Craftsman 10inch before Sears closed. I found one with the slide bars reversed. I have it mounted on work bench so space behind saw is close to wall. They need to make a miter saw with reverse slide bar for close quarters
That is one thing, this saw is long. Luckily I don't have to worry about space behind mine.
Diablo by Freud D1060X 10" x 60 Tooth Fine Finish

Now I use this blade.
Freud LU91R010: 10" Thin Kerf Sliding Compound Miter Saw Blade

If you just bought your blade for Home Depot they should let you return it.

Is it the miter or the bevel that is in 45⁰ position?
@@ShopRamblings its the bevel. I contacted the store I got it from and they are going to get me a new saw. I need it for my business and every day I am down is money lost.
Lots if work in this review. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome. I get a lot of information from TH-cam. I am just trying to do my part in giving what information I have.
How many people actually use the sliding part of the saw? Everything I cut seems to be a simple down and up
I use it often. I was had to use the slide just yesterday. For two different projects I was working on. I guess it would just depend on what you commonality build.
It's mostly to help in Carpentry to help keep face of trim from chipping away
debating between this or the new Skil 10 inch miter saw for my first miter saw but I'm not sure which one i should go for. Any advice?
I don't know if there is another model of Skilsaw but the one I seen does not have any of the features the Bauer does. Send me a model number and I can say for sure. Between the Skil MS6305-00 and the Bauer I would definitely go with the Bauer without a doubt.
Great video. I am looking for a new miter saw and this looks like a solid choice.
There a better saws and there are cheaper saws out there. I believe this one hits the sweet spot with good quality, nice features, at a great price.
Thanks, will try and find the Ridgid from HD.
If it fits your budget this is my number 2 pick. www.lowes.com/pd/DELTA-Steel-Adjustable-Rolling-Miter-Saw-Stand/50237913
I have used this one for years.
Reach around to the back and pull the pin and push it right. It is made so that when you go back to the left it with stop at 90⁰.
Thanks for the review, thinking to buy one right now
Did you ever buy one. If so what do you think?
This test is only if you want to saw with precision with a miter saw.(test is not intended for rough and hard work).
Tips and Test:
Very important if you would like to saw with precision.
@@ShopRamblings cool review. Didn’t know this was out already!
@@ShopRamblings thanks a lot
On sale at HF right now for $199
Was it some kind of a special deal or ITC club deal? I don't see any deal right now :-(
This thing has been up and down in price.
What kind of gizmo is that saw mounted on? The RIDGID thing.
It is a RIDGID
Universal Mobile Miter Saw Stand with Mounting Braces.
HF doesn't have any parts for it yet so I may just find an old dc power supply and scavenge the board out of it.
thank you. good video
Thanks
What are absolute best blades and tooth for baseboards and trim moulding?
I picked up one 2 months ago, and I love it!! How yours is holding up? Thanks for sharing video 👍
Does anyone know how to change the bevel angle to the right? Thanx in advance
Pull the pin on the back. Then when you want to go back to 90 just move to the left until you hear the click them back to the right.
Has anyone tried to use a vac system on this saw? Just wondering how effective it is for dust collection. Thx.
What size vac system. I have mine connected to my dust collector.
Will it cut a 4x4…. Thanks
Yes it will.
Where can I find the digital tool to measure the angles?
Most all of them are the same. I believe I got mine from Home Depot. Here is one I found on Amazon.www.amazon.com/Preciva-Protractor-Stainless-Functions-Included/dp/B087F8TBH7/ref=mp_s_a_1_14?dchild=1&keywords=digital+protractor&qid=1611831465&sr=8-14
has that angle finder been calibrated?
Why yes it has.
Excellent review, thank you man!
Thanks for the feedback
Where was the Allen and screwdriver from?
It was stuck in the back of the slide rail.

Not any real issues. I like the shadow line but it is hard to see if you are outside. The handle still feel weird left handed. During Bauer days they raised the price but it has come back down since. With that said my friend is setting up a new shop and had him buy this saw yesterday.
Just brought this today
I hope yours works as good as mine did.
Can you put a dado blade on a miter saw?
Short answer No. This saw and all miter saws I have seen have short arbor when a bolt that screws into the end to hold the blade on. Table saws have a threaded arbor an inch or so long with a nut that screws on. When putting 2-6 blades on that make up a dado stack you need the arbor to be able to reach through all the blades. The depth stop is not a solid stop. I would not get this saw to do dodo cuts. If that is what you are planning on doing you need a table saw.
@@ShopRamblings thank you , I waited 61 years to decide to start wood working.. your answer is appreciated
Thanks Robert. I just got the same saw but cannot find a stand to bolt it onto. I see you did bolt it to a table stand. Which one did you use and do you recommend it? It looks like it may be a Rigid miter saw stand, is it?
This is the stand I use and love it. www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-Universal-Mobile-Miter-Saw-Stand-with-Mounting-Braces-AC9946/206992161
There are a couple of different brands but this is the best style I have found. Lowes sells the Delta one but right now the Ridgid is the cheapest. If you watch direct tool outlet the have them for as low as $80 sometimes.
Thanks so much Robert. Does the bolt holes line up with the Bauer miter saw easily?
The holes lined up. I did get some different lenth bolts. I could have used the ones in the box but i put the bolts coming up from the bortom and did not want them sticking up past the nuts.
Thanks....very much appreciated for your time and expertise. G
Well it looks like Home Depot does not have them and does not know when they will. I don't live near a Direct Tool. Any other stands that may work? I see a WEN that claims it will fit all miter saws, know anything about it? Does Bauer suggest a stand?
That looks the same as a brand here in the uk called Erbauer. Their EMIS254S model looks identical
I have seen 3 different brands of the same base saw. The fence upgrade is not on all of them but is on some.
I'm just getting started in woodworking, and think I will buy this saw. What is the measuring device that you are using? Thanks for such a great review. I learned a lot from this video.
I use this for way more than I would have expected in my shop. It is definitely a top drawer tool. amzn.to/34dUKEd
I went to harbor freight today and bought a decent miter saw stand. It was $69 and might cut with my miter saw 10 times a month. How do you like your stand.

Great upgrade for the money.

Do they have Harbor Freight in India.

I have considered buying the Jet ambidextrous handle to see if it would be a direct replacement as I believe this is the same saw only rebranded.

I have one of them too.
I just picked one up for $187. Check out the HF coupon on reddit for 25% off---no restrictions.
That is a great deal. Let me know what you think about the aaw after you use it.
While I appreciate your evaluation, it may be wise (and more professional) to provide a final segment summarizing your findings. (Said very respectfully).
Thanks for the feedback.
you look like a machinist to me especially with the tools you carry, have you ever actually done any finish work or finished out of house yourself? you don't worry about being within a thousand of an inch I've been in the trade for 50 plus years you don't look like any kind of carpenter to me not even a weekend wannabe. when people buy a compound miter saw whether it's sliding or not, it's usually bought for one thing only finish work
I am not a machinist, but I have done machining.
700 hundredths? You mean one thousandths of an inch. You wood guys are weird.
I wish we could just go metric. It would make measuring much easier.
I don't like harbor saws they use to much plastic
I would not like a plastic saw either. Is there something plastic on this saw that is not on other brands?
Too much plastic. Handyman special.
