Wow. I'm so glad that up until now I don't have any problems with the injectors on mine being at all loose. But this now shows me that I NEED to get the proper tool to remove them. As well if this does come up in the future I can deal with it as you've shown here. Thank you again Jake for your awesome videos!!
This is a throwback to the DIY videos I started watching when I found first found your channel! You’ve come a long ways and is such a joy to watch what you do!
That’s Awesome man great video! My misfiring 335i was actually the reason my tuner/owner of ppi made this kit. After doing everything in the world I came across a post in a forum about people cutting up the safety cap off the new injectors and putting them around injector and banging it in to create more of a seal. This worked temporarily and then my tuner came up with the idea to solve the dreaded misfire issues so many N54 cars have and now my personal car has never been as flawless without misfires ever even @34psi 800whp
That's awesome! I've heard of some people using that method, using a copper washer, and using teflon tape. All are hit or miss, and don't last forever. But this fix has been perfect.
Just want you to know Jake that you’re a huge inspiration to me. I’m a northern kid too over in MN and you know the winters can be long. However you’re the reason I bought my manual n54 135i. I’m hanging around 430whp right now and planning to chase that single turbo. Keep being you and inspiring others to be amazing🫡💙
That's so awesome man, Midwest represent! Sounds like you've got an awesome build started. I loved being around that power level... but once you go single you won't go back lol.
Very nice fix Jake. Very scary but I would try it. Btw, I finally got my hand on a barely used set of index 12 injectors. They were in a 335i for a few months, until the car got totaled. Every good part was parted out. I finally paid $1400 for this set and the car drives like a new one. Good luck selling this beauty. Dutch regards.
Thanks! Nice find on the index 12 injectors. Crazy how expensive they've gotten, but you definitely saved compared to buying brand new. Thanks for watching Nico.
Jake! Your video quality and narration over the action has improved so much in the last 3 or so months! Love the content. Great job with the sponsorship, patreon, and merch store. You're doing it! Did I see you have Icon tools? Good choice my man. I have them too. Probably big overkill for the work I do with them but I have them. This is VERY relevant to me because I have a set of index 12 injectors that I bought from FCP and never did the work (its a long story but you get it, life gets busy and the E90 is not my daily). Yes, I would experiment with this repair at home if I need to. Scary but relatively easy work. The only thing in your tools list missing is the injector seal compressor kit (did I miss it?). Keep up the great work Jake!
I really appreciate that Steve, I'm glad to hear that the extra effort is paying off! I wouldn't be able to keep going if it weren't for ya'll. I love ICON tools for the money, Derek actually introduced them to me. But I recently got a huge sponsorship from Sonic tools, they sent me a huge toolbox full of tools... so I'll be using that from now on.
@@jake_spence Congrats on the sponsorship by Sonic! I had seen Sonic tools but no idea where to get them. Still love that garage you built. Its so amazing. Keep up the great work Jake.
How’s the seal holding up after a year bro? i’m needing to do this as well. I daily mine, so i’m waiting on my kit to come through. i’ve been staying out of boost. Also, did you rotate the crank to lower the piston in the cylinder you were working on?
Ordered kit wondering if you had any issues with the shipping process? Have yet to receive tracking info and “Micheal Hollingsworth” is not responding. Please let me know if you had any issues with this
Could probably throw some cleaner fluid or equivalent down the bore to wash the cylinder head corners of shavings as well. Just have a good rag over the injector hole to prevent splash. I’d swirl some fluid in it a few times, and borescope it to check all the metal is out. Combination of fluid and compressed air should do well!
This was my first thought.. no matter what you do metal just went through that engine with this job, maybe not if the guide sleeve thing was an insanely strong magnet?? Anyone making this kit think of that?
Exactly the same thing happened to me. Try posting on the forums calling out the PPIFPR business and his owner Michael Hollingsworth. It will prevent other people from being in this situation.
I have a e90 and it has a no crank issue. When I start it everything has power except the steering is locked and the wipers go crazy. I also get a code saying P1631 - Theft Deterrent Start Enable Signal Not Correct. I have put a copper cable between pin 21 and 22 on the cas module connector and it cranks the starter, so clearly the CAS is receiving power. could it be the DME or would it be the CAS? Or something completely different? Any help appreciated.
Great job, my only concern is if that cylinder you working on valves are open. So when you spray the compressed air in that cylinder to clean put those metal filings and those metal filings make there way to the intake or turbo. Wont that be an issue?
If I have incorrectly taken my injectors out (without sliding hammer) and just by pulling them out with injectors will I need to buy this kit? I haven’t installed my new injectors in yet
It depends on how you pulled them out. If you wiggled them side to side heavily, they may be ovaled out. Try to insert a new injector and see how much movement it has side to side. If excessive, you may have to do the repair.
Haha, this is definitely some OG N54 content! And this issue is becoming more common for sure, with everyone replacing injectors now, I've heard of a lot more people ovaling out their injector bores.
Hi I’m in need of an emergency for my car. My brackets for my injectors has striped. What tap and die do I need to fix this. I cannot find anything on it. I’m really just mad rn
We used a scope camera two videos ago, on my flooded 135i engine with 11k miles. And if you friend's 335i is running good, smooth, and strong, I don't think he needs this. But if he's having misfires, it's worth checking.
That’s nothing, I got a tracking number and then waited 8+ months. He ran out of stock twice while I was waiting which means he sold my parts to someone else. I did eventually receive the parts though. He claims to have a patent but I doubt he’s got the competency to fight an infringement.
If it's really bad and you have the engine cover off, you should be able to hear a heavy air sucking noise when it starts. In my case, I actually saw puffs of smoke/fuel come out of that injector on start up.
If you go to a machine shop they can make this for you. Lucky for me i have access to a few. Material and labour should not run 7k to 12k that's ludicrous should be around a few hundred where i'm from including tapping and cleaning out the cyclinder with air.

We actually put some cleaner down in there for the other cylinders. Helped wash out the grease as well.
Don’t think it was mentioned but seems imperative to make sure the valves are closed on the cylinder when blowing it out with compressed air
Definitely doesn't hurt, and important to make sure the piston is lowered down into the cylinder so you don't smack it with the drill bit.
