Been watching your videos here and there for a while. What keeps me coming back and led to me now subscribing is your knowledge. Your knowledge of the platform and of the parts is way more detailed than 90% of the videos out there. Thanks
Don't worry, you'll see me driving it very soon! I've seen the China manifolds, but am holding out to see what Doc Race brings. Thanks for the support!
Great job first day on the dyno my rail pressure was dropping to less then 900 . So I started to consider port injection I am glad I seen your video because I almost bought mmps... but you opened my eyes and your points are valid.
Jake thanks for the Good videos. I have a car I use mainly for open highway use “ 335 Sedan” . I’m considering the Port Injection, no Mods, , I’m wanting to get away from the Direct Injection. Oh I’ve installed Catless Down Pipes.
You should really look into the Fuel-It Port Injection kit. One of the best I have seen. Would love to get a comparison between that and these kits. It is a bit pricey tho.
Haha, yep, I brought Fuel-It into the mix. Awesome kit, and I'd use it myself, but I feel that BMP is the same quality while being easier on the wallet.
The basic Fuel-it kit with 550cc injectors is $737.00 not $1200. The higher price is with multiple options added. That $737.00 includes everything you are showing for both the MMP and BMP kits. Nice video!!
I swapped out the MMP PI to Fuel-It for the same reasons! Those gaskets and bolts will turn a quick job into a long afternoon unless you find some creative solutions on your own. I had a fuel line connection fail on mine too leading to a massive fuel leak. Frustrating all around to say the least.
I saw on the MMP site that they have a gen 2 version that has updated parts and revisions which address all the differences you point out in this video...except for the extended manifold studs. I sent an email to BMP asking about your video and if they ship their injection kit with the longer studs as seen here...because they use the same photo of the kit as MMP uses, both photos have the home depot studs. Did you have to request the extended studs or did they just give it to you with the injection kit? VT
Yeah, I'm guessing MMP saw my video and made some proper adjustments. The BMP kit came with the longer studs, no special request. They come with all of their kits now!
Yes, we have not updated our pictures yet. We did use bolts initially, but immediately ordered custom made studs. Now that we have those in stock, all of our kits include those without requesting. We also are happy to send existing customers studs to replace their bolts for only the cost of shipping.
hey man hope this reaches you! im in the middle process of installing a PI kit on my 335is and no real video shows how to connect the extra fuel line and was wondering if you had any info on that. thanks!
You need a secondary controller. If you have JB4, you can use the BMS JB4 controller which automatically tunes the injectors. Otherwise you have to use an AIC Split Second controller or something of the like. It will require it's own map/settings.
I'm a little surprised there's no discussion about offset nozzle location vs centered in the port. MMP's are centered (5 of 6 anyway) and it looked like your new one has all 6 coming in at an angle in the corner of the port. Expect any difference?
It's been proven that the angled approach works just fine. Fuel-It's kit is the same way. I'm not worried about it whatsoever. I'd only be concerned if the injectors were positioned vertically in the corner like AD-E's kit.
So quick question, when you installed the manifold back onto the rail did you keep the gaskets on the manifold as well? I see that part was skipped in the video
Jake Spence wow...this is great. One of the biggest issues with the N54 is the carb build up. Thanks for the review of these and explaining why you preferred some kits to others
For high power, you need port injection in ADDITION to the factory direct injection. So if you replace the factory injectors, that still won't be good enough for high power.
Is the bmp a stand-alone kit or does it work along with the factory injectors, if its stand-alone does it come with plugs to plug the factory injector ports?
It works along with the factory injectors. It adds supplemental fuel, doesn't replace the factory direct injector. You do need a controller for the 6 additional port injectors though.
It would only cause problems if the injectors were leaking. Obviously they’re not supposed to operate, but if they’re malfunctioning and leaking, fuel will pool up in the valves/cylinder. Which has happened with MMP injectors. Luckily mine never leaked, but others weren’t as lucky.
Great video, I've been wanting to do port injection but I'm just a bit hesitant on installing it. Is it easy? Will you be doing an install video for it? I haven't really seen any install videos for it. Thanks in advance.
I was initially going to do an install video but was pressed for time so didn’t get it. It’s intimidating but pretty straightforward. Remove the intake manifold, insert the longer studs and then slide the plate on. The fuel line tees in between the feed line and the HPFP line. Obviously unhook the battery, then disconnect the fuel line. Snap the supplied fuel line in, then reconnect the fuel feed line. Installation is just reverse of disassembly at that point. Make sure you connect your controller (BMS or AIC) to the injectors while the manifold is off. Once you’re in there, it will make a lot more sense!
Jake Spence thank you for the quick reply and info, that sounds a ton of a lot easier than I thought it to be lol. I was looking to get the fuel it kit but the BMP fits my budget better. Keep up the awesome videos.
Nice comparison, it was a smidge repetitive. What controller are you running? i'll go port once i go standalone, a shotgun is in my future. Looking forward to some driving vids!
You cant compare the BMP 689 price to the FUEL IT KIT THATS OVER 1K. The 689 price DOES NOT include the controller and its an additional 389, so they are pretty much the same price.
hello jake. do you now have 2 injectors onboard and do you alternate between the sets at all? I think you use JB4 and MHD, but is it reliable or advisable to use 2 sets of injectors and how exactly would you do that?
The factory injectors are always firing. The secondary set is controlled with the JB4 BMS controller that is wired into my JB4/ECU. It automatically controls them safely.
Good question. I haven’t had any issues, it still fits just fine. Many people run a port injection spacer and I’ve never ready about people having charge pipe fitment issues. I think you’ll be just fine.
MMP has updated their PI kit to Gen 2 and it resolves all the issues mentioned in this video, its the same quality now as the BMP kit parts and injectors wise, and costs almost $100 less!! check it out here. mmp-e.com/collections/products/products/n54-n55-s55-port-injection-kit-meth-or-nitrous-option
So my goal is to run 600who to 650whp not sure what is gonna be. I have all the mods you have. The only thing I need is the fuel system, to E85 100%. Some of the forms saying dont get close to PI because it dangerous. For me spending 3k on fuel system just because its a little bit safer is not really my goal. With PI I can get more flow, less money to spend, and for future goals I will keep running the PI. What is your advice with the PI you think should I do it ? Or go with 3k fuel system ( 3k = 1500$ for idex 12 , 900$ for helix overdrive , 600 $ for stage 3 LPFP). Let me know please.
Yup! They are similar, yet different. I’m going to do a comparison video between to the two actually. That way anyone who’s deciding between them can make an educated choice. Keep an eye out for that video!
I thought there might be one more company that did/does it, but wasn’t sure. Good thing I said “to my knowledge”, lol. Everyone else shows the longer bolts in the product photos.
Jake Spence I called the Company . They told me that I Can use 1300cc ev- 14 injectors. My question is if you are satisfied with the function of the port injector?
I noticed that MMP has Version 2 now which now uses OEM intake manifold gaskets and the injectors now come with tested results.... should they become a option as they are similar now ?
They basically saw my video and ripped off the BMP kit. So yes, it should be an option, but you can see what kind of vendor MMP is. I'd support BMP if possible.
So I am buying a kit from a friend and was looking at injectors. From what I hear they all scratch off the part number. Guess they don't want us finding it so that we can't source our own for probably hundreds less. If anyone knows what injectors are actually used please let me know.
If you get the JB4 port injection controller like I did, you don't need to do any tuning! Just follow the installation instructions and you'll be alright.
Yes! This is an add-on benefit of using port injection. However, if you notice your valves are really caked up when you install the port injection, I’d recommend cleaning them first. You don’t want the large chunks breaking off and going into your engine.
Have a recent passion for this car. I really am lost with the tuning portion of things. Do I need jb4 if I have mhd to control the injection kit. I’m assuming the meth controller works the same way. Going to be doing speedtech stage 3 dual 430 lpfps from fuel it and obviously the port injection kit. Would kill to meet an expert with the platform 👍🏼🤟🏼👍🏼
Oh cool not to far from me I live just north of Milwaukee. And god no haha, I wish i had a 1M (just being a douche using some random google image). Super sick car though; I hope to get a 135 in the near future.
Once you get to a certain horsepower level, you need additional fueling so that the high pressure fuel pump doesn't max out. These additional six injectors alleviate stress from the HPFP and provide adequate fueling for high horsepower.
Jake Spence Thank you for the reply, that clears it up. I found your Chanel a couple days ago and I got to say I love the in depth content keep it up 👍
At what point would you advise going to this kit? It seems like it would help alleviate the carbon buildup issue on the intake valves too. Could you add this kit with a stock turbo setup with tuning and other bolt ons? I got a quote of almost $800 for a walnut blasting. That is insane to me.
Jay go to school and learn. I did it an became an ase master auto tech in 1.5 yrs and it barely cost me any money. My local junior college had a program that was sponsored by Honda. I worked in various dealerships for 9 yrs n then became an engine builder. The I went back to college n became an industrial designer and worked for Bosch. The knowledge I got from education was priceless. I got a student discount for tools and was able to buy a full snap on set n tool box that would normally cost $35k for $10k w my discount. I never need to pay a shop for anything and I make extra cash doing side jobs. I can do engineering and CAD design my own parts too... It's totally worth it
Honestly, trial and error. I started tinkering with cars when I was 16. I put a wet shot of nitrous on my Ford Focus, lol. Got my first BMW (1996 328is E36) and fell in love. Been missing BMWs ever since. Learned a lot from forums and TH-cam, along with help from some close friends who are certified mechanics. You can go to school like mentioned in the above comment, but I never wanted to work on cars full time. Keeping it a hobby has been my focused, otherwise I know I’d get burnt out. If it’s something you want to do, go for it! Otherwise read up as much as you can and find a local car club. Hang out and make friends that will help you swing wrenches.
I definitely agree with the to may places to leak comment that's why I didn't go with that I did get a entire manifold with pi from Robert at precision but can't tell you who it's made by do to it is a prototype but works great you and see it on my instagram page 64panhead keep up the great content
Nice, I’ll definitely check it out. I’m keeping an eye out for new intake manifolds. The China one is getting people’s attention but I want to want for something more legit. Plus, the Doc Race one looks badass!
Jake Spence yea it definitely is but will they ever bring it out lol I know the prototype one I have is made by but can't say promised Robert is keep it under raps but got the Bosch 750cc also and man you will love it freaking rips looking forward to how yours does who tunes it for yea are you jb4 or flash only
I can’t wait either! I’m currently using JB4 with a BMS backend flash via MHD. Port injection is controlled via JB4 BMS controller. We will see how it does, I might switch to the Motiv BoostBox and an AIC for port injection.
Jake Spence yea I'm flash only using motive boost box and aic6 controller have Justin Hubenak doing the tuning for me about got the boost all done getting ready to tune in the spool time but I really like the set up mainly due to staying in control of the dme
All these kits are trash. Look at the injector angle or lack of. Spraying at the bottom of the flange and dribbling down the intake port into the chamber, horrible atomization. Not to mention the incorrect orientation of the injector to properly utilize the 15-25 deg. spray angle of most Bosch injectors. Use an intake manifold with proper location of injector bungs. No efi application in the world aims an injector straight down on the y axis. Not trolling here, I appreciate your vids but all of these aftermarket port injection plates are half baked at best.
Agreed, it's not ideal but it's actually spraying upwards. It only sprays during heavy throttle, so it's being sucked in. I have since changed to an intake manifold with integrated port injectors!
Been watching your videos here and there for a while. What keeps me coming back and led to me now subscribing is your knowledge. Your knowledge of the platform and of the parts is way more detailed than 90% of the videos out there. Thanks

Awesome video man
Thanks guys!
Hi Jake great video as always, thanks for the comparison very helpfull, keep making them videos the way you do dude !
Thanks man! I appreciate the support.
Keep up the videos, love the car man!! You got a proper set up going, can't wait to see it running🔥👌
Thanks man! It's been a wild build. The next video should be of me driving it.
Badass can't wait!
Mmp now includes 1055cc Bosch injectors that are certified with their kit and they also started using oem intake gaskets
Only after I released this video, they revised their whole kit.
Thanks to your video I can now pick up PI kit with injectors and seals for 600$! Many thanks
@@CQBCARMINE44 just ordered mine last night!
Thanks man! I was deciding on what port injection kit to go with now I know which one to purchase. Dope build btw.
Thanks man, glad I can help!
Nice review Jake. Also agree on the Doc Race manifold. I'll send you pictures. ;-) ~ Wedge
If you have one, I’m jealous!
Not yet, but I can't wait...
thank you for the review. About to go PI on my 335is. very helpful in choosing a manufacturer
Nice dude, Would love to see it running!! Heard good things about the cast iron manifolds. Will be watching out.

You need a secondary controller. If you have JB4, you can use the BMS JB4 controller which automatically tunes the injectors. Otherwise you have to use an AIC Split Second controller or something of the like. It will require it's own map/settings.
Killer video bro
Thank you!
hi bro, should put smaller injector on, due to my car only maybe pushs about 380whp. standard bmp kit injectors are 750cc.
thanks!
You could put smaller injectors in, like 600cc. Otherwise your controller should be able to limit the duty cycle of the injectors.
Thanks for the reply! if I can use the AIC6 controller with BMP kit and BMS pump? Thanks!
The AIC6 will work with BMP kit. I'm not sure which BMS pump you're referring to, but I'm assuming that will work as well.
I'm a little surprised there's no discussion about offset nozzle location vs centered in the port. MMP's are centered (5 of 6 anyway) and it looked like your new one has all 6 coming in at an angle in the corner of the port. Expect any difference?

Yes, you need gaskets on the PI plate and on the manifold!
Would a benefit from this be that this could help clean the intake valves?
Yup, that's a big benefit. Washing fuel will help keep them clean.
Jake Spence wow...this is great. One of the biggest issues with the N54 is the carb build up. Thanks for the review of these and explaining why you preferred some kits to others
Im not too smart when it comes to these types of things, but will the bmp PI kit work with stock turbos, or is it only for single’s? Thanks
It will work with any turbo setup you have!
Few questions, does the kit come with some sort of wiring to control it or power it? And what happens to the stock injectors?
I believe you need to buy a JB4 controller
Any reason to go PI if I’m mostly going to be running pump gas? Eventually will want stage 2 hybrids.
Is it better and cheaper to convert to port injection than replacing factory injectors?
For high power, you need port injection in ADDITION to the factory direct injection. So if you replace the factory injectors, that still won't be good enough for high power.
Killer PI information!
Happy to help!
How does port injection cause cold start misfires since it not even operating
It would only cause problems if the injectors were leaking. Obviously they’re not supposed to operate, but if they’re malfunctioning and leaking, fuel will pool up in the valves/cylinder. Which has happened with MMP injectors. Luckily mine never leaked, but others weren’t as lucky.

Dumb question, but With these fuel rails for the n54 is it in addition to the hpfp or could i use a fuel rail and delete the hpfp?
Timbo no you cant
Nope, you still need the HPFP to drive the direct injectors. You’re adding these 6 addition injectors to take some stress off the HPFP actually.
Very nice. Subbed.
Thanks!
did the Teflon shiftier bushings make a difference in shifting from 1st to 2nd?
I did the poly transmission mounts and the Teflon shifter bushings at the same time and it improved the feel. It wasn’t a crazy difference though.
Nice comparison, it was a smidge repetitive. What controller are you running? i'll go port once i go standalone, a shotgun is in my future. Looking forward to some driving vids!
Yeah, I ramble a bit in front of the camera lol. I’m using the JB4 BMS controller. Driving video coming soon!
What's the biggest injector size is available for this engine? And also do you have injector problems like these engines usually have ?
will this void warranty on my m235i?
Yes, I would assume so.
Good info!
Glad it's helpful!
You cant compare the BMP 689 price to the FUEL IT KIT THATS OVER 1K. The 689 price DOES NOT include the controller and its an additional 389, so they are pretty much the same price.

That's up to you. I've heard good and bad things about the Helix overdrive. PI has been proven to work, but it is not for everyone.
You have a 335i for a daily, and the 135i is your toy? How do you resist the urge of upgrading both? You don't find them too similar to each other?
Yup! They are similar, yet different. I’m going to do a comparison video between to the two actually. That way anyone who’s deciding between them can make an educated choice. Keep an eye out for that video!
Can you show how to install this and the wires for the injectors you need
Or does this replace the direct injection?
It does not replace the direct injection. And I don't have an installation guide, but you can find one online.
EOS includes the longer studs I believe
I thought there might be one more company that did/does it, but wasn’t sure. Good thing I said “to my knowledge”, lol. Everyone else shows the longer bolts in the product photos.
How about PFS kits?
Why not an Intake With PI integrated
Can that kit .port injector you can change the injector 750cc / 1000cc . Can fit
That's a good question! I'm 99% sure you can swap in a 1000cc injector. Just to be sure, check with BMP before ordering.
Really work that kit I want to buy one .

What’s the torque spec on the studs
love the car and what is the name of the song playing in the background
What type of tuning is needed after install?
If you get the JB4 port injection controller like I did, you don't need to do any tuning! Just follow the installation instructions and you'll be alright.
Jake Spence thanks man! I have a 2012 135i dct. I just bought the bmp kit. I’m going with pure stage 2 turbo!
Does having a port injection kit keep your intake valves clean ?
Yes! This is an add-on benefit of using port injection. However, if you notice your valves are really caked up when you install the port injection, I’d recommend cleaning them first. You don’t want the large chunks breaking off and going into your engine.

You need an AIC6 S/S controller to control the additional injectors if you have MHD. If you have JB4, you can get the JB4 controller.
Jake Spence so essentially I need a pro tune just to run full E85? And then retune when I got bigger turbo?
Which part of Wisconsin are you from? Also a Wisconsinite
Nice! I’m between Green Bay and Oshkosh. Is that your 1 series in your profile photo?
Oh cool not to far from me I live just north of Milwaukee. And god no haha, I wish i had a 1M (just being a douche using some random google image). Super sick car though; I hope to get a 135 in the near future.
How did u calibrate the injectors
You don't have to calibrate the port injectors if you use the BMS controller. However, you must have JB4 to use the BMS controller.
Did you have install video?
No, I don't.

Justin is an awesome tuner. Very knowledgeable. Glad you’re enjoying your build!
can this bmp port injection kit be used to run meth ?
I don't believe so.
Cut the shit. Wait I missed it.. howany CC's, why's it better?
I can type it all out for you again if you’d like! 😂
Very long vedio and too much talking
Love the videos to this day ! Check mine out
My n54 ah! Not st but still fun
