Dude I am from Spain and I have recently discovered your videos... I think they are too good to have only 7600 subscribers. Keep on rocking that way, you are going through the ceiling!!!
*I'm very happy with my **Latest.Bike** . I have put a lot of miles on it, paved trails, gravel, sand, and it rides great. Thank you for a quality product.*
Additionally, if you have air shocks, empty any air out before starting to do this. If your shocks are not at the end of their life like this one, make sure to hit them with some padding over the hammer. Lubrication is also to be provided with oil (WT10 should work but check builder's manual), don't let them run dry. Grease is not the recommended lubricant in this situation and should only go on the dust seals. Finally, if you still have trouble it is possible to troubleshoot further by opening the actual air shock and the damper. Problems are often related to some worn o-ring, etc.. (always be careful to remove tension such as air from the system, it can be dangerous if not)
I wanna say super thanks for a well put together video. This was concise, and covered everything you need to know to clean out a fork. My son's was just full of mud and corrosion. Now it is functional and in decent shape. I loved some of the sly and subtle comedy in the tips like the one you gave on if you forget to lock out your damper side. I also very much appreciate the fast-forward speeds to not waste time watching bolts being removed.
Simple Green, soak forks on the inside with Simple Green. Use a coat hanger with an old t-shirt and you can slide through the forks and get out all the grease. For the abrassive/corrosion stuff use a Scotchbright pad (blue).
Shot for the tips jmayor88. I got a scrap tee stuck in there once so have just used the pressure washer since. The soaking will be the way to go thought.

I was told that only air suspension forks can be serviced. My front shocks are coils, and are making a knocking noise when I lift the front wheel, will new seals help?
So at 2:40 he removes the bottom bolts, I have a set of Suntour XCM (2011) forks, one has an allen key fitting the other is a 10mm bolt, the 10mm bolt is easily undone, however, the allen key side just spins, wont come undone tried some WD 40 etc, hammer, but its not undoing from the inside arm, any ideas?
I have a GT Avalanche Comp 29 from 2018. It has a tapered frame. I would like to upgrade the Suntour forks to RockShox. My current Suntour forks are straight. My question is can I replace my straight Suntour forks with Tapered RockShox forks on my bike that has a tapered frame and if so what do I require to do this?
@@juliangoulding also as a mechanic myself, not all cheap forks follow this. RST for instance have an entirely different procedure to what you showed here. If you have air forks, this simply will not work either
Hi thanks for the video... I have a very old fork which came with a trek 4100 from 2001. The brand on the fork says InSync and the model is called Grind 320. At about 3.00 minutes in your video you tap on the bolts after removing the screw I tried this with a rubber mallet but nothing happened though one side did go in a bit and not both sides evenly. Shuld I keep trying? Can you provide any help for me on this??
Hey Julian my bike doesn't have bolts on the under side of the forks, instead they are accessible from the top and they are quite deep in the forks.Do you have any idea how to unscrew them by using some kind of extension that is long and thin enough?
Got giant bike , suspension left side cover is damaged , air keeps releasing from suspension every time I refill . No mechanic dare to solve the problem , need help .
Hello i have the problem. Can you please help me, when i push them in they wouldnt come back up, and it just blocks like that, and i need to pull them up to get them back, and they wont even go in after some time, and also they are hard to pull in. Some people told me to that i need to rub them with hard paper, and wd-40 but i dont know if that would damage them, idk what to do pls help me. I drive TREK XCALIBER 8, with suntour xcr fork.
I've got a rockshox dart 3 that doesn't work even though I put all my weight down on it the suspension still doesn't move is there anything that I can do to fix it?
Joe Avdiaj Try this process. What I find is if they aren't moving at all it normally means they are full of water. If you take the forks bottom pieces of and no water comes out then there is something wrong with the lockout system and it will probably be time for a new set of forks.
So, you don't do anything to the piston-spring-things (sorry, I'm a generalist, and don't know the names of the pieces) inside the tubes? The thinner shaft mabobs, that do the compressing and rebounding? [Techinal folks, help me with the names.] But nothing at all? Why, or why not? Not even take 'em apart to clean or lube?
...and the hidraulic brake hose has been routed out the fork, when the correct path to that hose is between the wheel and fork...jejeje. Sometimes, it has been my little fail, too...jejeje
Great bike , rides smooth th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L I added a bigger spring loaded seat to it . Takes a bit of adjusting cables to get brakes and shifting to perfect . I've owned quite a few bikes in the past that were absolutely uncomfortable to ride and they always ended up as garage wall decor . I'm not seeing that with this one. It's pretty light I've only ridden it a few miles but I like it . As for the pedals falling off in the other reviews , the pedal arms are aluminum along with the pedal studs look to be also . I would not overtighten them. I can see it would be very easy to overtighten them and strip the threads right off . All in all I think it's pretty good quality besides the aluminum pedal thing
This is HOW NOT TO REPAIR A FORK. He did nothing but removed the slider and greased the stanchion tubes (this will only cause more dirt to gather) and he put on new DUST seals. The problem with most forks is a leaking o ring in the stanchion tubes.
These forks are only coil spring so no "o ring" as you mention like on air forks, they are cheap minimal maintenance forks and the videos pretty spot on. It helps if you pay attention and know what youre talking about before making a negative comment.
They could be locked on the lockout? Or the lock out is broken. Give what I do go and see if you can get them moving again, might just be so full of water and muck that they can move.
Thought I saw some Kangaroo shit on the outer legs before you sprayed them... BTW: The housing you removed is called 'outer legs' not "bottom" The rest of the fork is called 'inner legs'..... Both outer and inner legs have "bottoms"..smh.

Awesome chill maintenance video! Thanks man
Does the road bike forks got some oil in it?
Fair play thought this would be hard but away to get the tools out 😂

Same thing for me does it move ? Like wobble around.
thanks for this info, you really are a teacher. thanks
My shock wobble when I brake. It's a cheap suntour. What can cause it and how to fix? Cheers
Very good and informative video. I learned something new.

Any difference with an air shock?

Alguien podría decirme cómo se llama esa pieza que cambia en la horquilla que lleva como un elástico de metal y lo cambia por uno nuevo.
Massively useful video mate, thank you so much for uploading! Really helped me out
Nice video how does the degreaser work on the disk brakes because, I just seen it dripping all over the pads and caliper. That can’t be good.

I think you can get conversion headsets for that. It done it the other way round before with a special kit
mine moves only when i jump so hard. It doesnt pick up road shocks. So, my body absorbs the shock and it makes me sick.
have you tried what I do in this video?

What is with the springs? no lubricant?
im pretty sure the other side needs oil in it?

On some old motorcycle forks I have seen people hammer a broom handle down there. Not sure if I would do it, but it's free to try
You have a lovely voice and accent.
were can i get those seals?? ...Link would be nice

Ive done mine long time before ive seen this film so ive always used WD40 and some chain lube and it works fine.
NaotoPL WD 40 will drive out moisture so the chain lube is point less as the wd40 will just remove it

broken skull as long as the suspension is working well, it is... its just a rebound adjuster.
