Try vinegar as well, the acetic acid when combined with iron oxide reduces it to iron acetate more over this allows the aluminium to be oxidised to aluminium oxide thus removing iron rust to create aluminium rust in solution leaving the bare iron to be cleaned and coated with a electro plating, paint, light oil and so on
Also bro, use wire wool and a metal polish called peek. Super cheap way to do the stansions with an incredible outcome 🤙 it’s thinner than autosol but thicker than braso 😂🤙
I love a no BS video on how to fix schit, and I love the sound of the girlfriends making lunch in the background......we must be at the same latitude...... me Perth Australia, ... you South Africa yes ??? Thanks brother 👍
I've seen guys use scotch bright on hydraulic pistons that have pitting. Might want to try that instead of sand paper sometime. Like red scotch bright for auto body I think.
Thank you for this video. I have a Huffy Trailblazer full suspension mt bike that I'm trying to learn how to clean, fix & rebuild (after it was left outside all winter long through this most recent Idaho winter...has some rust, but someone told me it should clean up pretty well because it was only outside for one winter). But I'm trying to learn as much as I can about fixing & restoring bikes because I've loved bicycles my whole life & some of the older bikes out there still got some life left to 'em!
I have a zoom fork. I need to remove the blue switch for lock out. How to remove it I tried a flat screw driver but it seems it is deforming blue plastic. Is it mounts from inside?
Hi thanks for the video... I have a very old fork which came with a trek 4100 from 2001. The brand on the fork says InSync and the model is called Grind 320. InSync seems to not be around anymore but the company that I think used to make them now makes forks under the name of Spinner. And Spinner could not help me. In all the videos I have seen about taking apart basic forks the allen nuts near the wheel hubs at the bottom of the fork are long bolts. In my shock it is an allen nut which just screws off the thread. I cannot pull the fork off the stanchions. Is there anyway you could help me?
I have a aostirmotor s07, got 3300 miles on it so far, the front end shakes when I take off my hands, used to ride with no hands! What is making it shake all of a sudden?
If you think you able to do it it's pretty worth it. There is a risk that you mess it up somehow so I guess that's what you are paying for at the bike shop.
My cheap suntour was spitting out a bunch of water after a very wet ride. Now it wobbles alot when i hit the front brakes. What causes that? Is it stuffed?
I just got an e bike. Shock forks, but they don't have the lock out option. Just shocks.... is this a type of Shock forks also? I've always had regular 1 piece forks as a bmxer, thanks for any info
Can you plz help my new cradiac alpha pro's zoom suspensions preload adjuster is loose and does not work ,it was working some week later but after i did some 2-3 turns it became loose and it does not do anything?
I rebuilt my forks because they needed a service. I did not lock off the damper side before stripping down. Now I can’t lock off the damper. The 4 mm inside and the 5 mm outside just spin round and round. Any advice? Or have I damaged the damper?
Classic mistake to make. I still do it every now and then. If you pull it the damper side out till it's a few mills lower that the spring side and the grip it with some pliers you might be able to lock it out there. Otherwise you could try compressing the fork when you are assembling it either with a friend helping or removing the spring from the top to let you compress it. Unfortunately it's a bit of a fight to figure it out but it's definitely doable.
@@juliangoulding by the way, I tried taking the damper completely out and turning the lock whilst holding the bottom section but it still didn’t grip and kept spinning?
@@dominic77999 sometimes I'll get the nut on the end just a couple turn and try grab just above it, on the thread, with a long nose plier and lever it down on the nut while tightening it up. Sometimes that works. Like I said it's alot of f'ing round but you'll get it.
Hey Julian I have an old Manitou Mars Elite front suspension, its similar to the design of the shock you worked on here but has a dampening adjustment knob on the bottom of the right shock and some sort of adjustment knob on the top of the right side as well...neither of those seem to come off so I cant disassemble it to service....have you ever worked on one of these?
How do I fix this issue : When I lock y front brake up and rock my bike there’s movement in the silver hit of the suspension and the black but that’s connected to the the wheel there’s no headset play whatsoever
I purchased a new Aventon Level E Bike in Mar 2022, it has the cheap zoom fork, after about 2 weeks the front fork makes a clunk sound when going over some bumps and it's pissing me off, it does not do this when it's locked out though, does anyone know what the issue is? Or even an upgrade fork the would fit this bike? Thanks John
Yeah it's not the nicest fork. Sounds like you might be bottoming it out, try adding some preload to it, which will stiffen it up a bit. Might be worth just taking it into the bike shop and get them to have a look. We had a similar fork on one of our ebikes and changed it to an air fork and it made the world of difference.
It's tough to explain in text but if you are having trouble screwing it back in try pulling down hard one the forks lowers while you try. This should relieve some pressure from the spring and you should be able to get it most ot the way in by hand. Hope that helps

No issues with assembly for me th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
Mine wouldn't come apart with the mallet. I saw another video that recommended loosening the bolts at the bottom and then tapping on those to loosen them up so the body of the shocks would come off. That did the trick for me. th-cam.com/video/eW2819rP9Tw/w-d-xo.html
Use foil to sand down surface rust this works great it completely removes it

Yes, silver foil and a little water helps bring rusty metal back to near perfect 👍
Aluminum powder is poisonous. Where n95 mask and dishwasher gloves.
Good idea, and I use 0000 steel wool to remove rust on handlebars, fork tubes or other chrome pieces

Fine steel wool does wonders for rust removal on forks w/o scratching the stanchions to buggery ;-)
with some added wd40 helps more still, use this combo on anything rusted
Agree to both the above, does the trick for me 👍🚲
