I feel like this an underappreciated aspect of the Drizzt series. Salvatore did an awesome job giving the artifacts, weapons and armor their own personality and development. Thanks for highlighting this! Can't wait to see other videos on some of the other blades like Khazid'hea and Vidrinath.
I couldn't be happier to see a series start ❤❤ as a giant FR fan it's hard to find drawn out info bout the specifics, most channels focus on the grand scheme of events. Thanks man, this was awesome
@TheDrowHistorian I will be pointing this video and channel out to anyone I know with an interest in the FR brother, I know it's not much but you deserve to grow ❤️
Very solid video indeed! I recall Drizzt had what was effectively a cameo in the first Baldur's Gate game. At the time the infinity Engine could not manage dual wielding, so if I recall correctly Drizzt's left hand weapons was actually a shield but looked like a sword. His armour was also a unique artefact.
@@TheDrowHistorian Yeah I was first introduced to Drizzt by a friend 25 ish years ago. And I fell in Love with R.A Salvatore Books about Drizzt and with Companions 🤓
Thank you so much for this video, and the effort to make them is greatly appreciated. I bought these books new in the year they released, and the nostalgia is great to feel.
Great video!! In the more recent books, Cattie Brie combined the blade with another sword (Vidrinath), using the magic of the forge of Gauntlgrym. Now twinkle is more powerful than before!!
Yeah! I have a video coming talking about the forge of gauntlgrym and all the cool stuff she crafts there! Thanks for checking out the video and dropping a comment!
I love how some of the paperbacks you show are nicely beat up. My first introduction to Salvatore was from a beat up Sword of Bedwyr paperback I found at a ski lodge in 1995. Been a huge fan ever since.
i love everything that has to do with this lore ,i have read every book or story salvatore has print and played every relevant game there is (still playing BG 3)..of course i like your accurate work and I'll keep watching ,but the thing that hits the spot is when you mention that you were 14 waiting for the next book to release ,man that wake up some memories... thank you for remind me that again
Thanks for the thoughtful comment! This stuff means a whole lot to me. I won’t always get everything right but my goal is to create an homage to these characters and worlds that have had such a profound impact on me!
When I was a kid in high school, I had to take debate class. One of the assignments was to do a dramatic reading in front of the class. I chose Drizzt’s fight with Ertu 😎
Twinkle was damaged, but was repaired by Cattie-Brie in the forge of Gauntlegrym by merging it with the drow sword known as Vidrinath, which was a blade wielded by Tiago Baenre and far superior to Twinkle. After the treatment of the Great Forge, it became a new weapon all together, but Drizzt seems to refer to it as Vidrinath now.
You may have missed my pinned comment but yes, I'll explore that evolution in a future video. It's definitely a cool part of the story. Tiago is a pretty awesome character too.
@TheDrowHistorian not sure what the 5e stats are, but those are from Hall of Heroes. It has great, detailed character profiles of everyone in the Forgotten Realms novels.
I once played a neutral lawful half orc that had two magic weapons one was a shield that protected automatically 5 feet from magic every spell cast within the 5 feet -5 point of spell for each feet before hitting him and a battle axe that if thrown in battle automatically found closest magic user attaching until battle was over draining the magic users life but couldn't use the battle axe if thrown until battle was over
I did not know about this trilogy. I only read the one where he is still underground (mostly) in Menzoberanzan (from memory). Glad he finds other blades since his original simitars lost their magic because of sunlight being darkness magic enchanted or something.
Yes. His original drow enchanted items all fade on the surface. That was such a cool touch. There are a lot of awesome magic items that are introduced through the 39 book series. I plan on exploring a bunch more of them.
@@TheDrowHistorian What!? 39 books!! I only read 3. Is it 39 Drizzt book or FR or R.A Salvatore books? The only other R.A books I've read were the ranger ones where magic use gems and the elves have the ''sword dance'' benel desada or something...that was a good serie too.
@@TheDrowHistorian Before you start reading more of the 39 books in the serie that theallofirst5461 mentioned, I would highly recommend that you read The Clerics Quintet - also by R.A. Salvatore, as there are several charecters from those books that make appearences later in Drizzt's books.
2:30 Finally...a scimitar on the left, lol. CURVED SWORD. How else do you think he was poking around shields and everything said in the literature? The artist had it wrong even though his art is awesome. But that led to replicas being off. I own the Icingdeath and Twinkle replicas and they, most definitely, are not scimitars.
Yeah, I’m not sure why WoTC changed them. A lot of the original art from the late 80’s and Early 90’s is correct but there just isn’t enough to pull from to make a video. the majority of art that’s out there are these very slightly curved swords.
I've read all the books. Definitely worth your time. Drittzt definitely evolved as a character. He went from blatant Mary Sue Super Amazing All Rolls Are A Nat 20!!! fanwank character to an actual person in a story. It took a while but Salvator got there.
I bought these books when they released in the 80s (I was a teenager when the first book released) and pretty much grew up with the series buying each book the week or so when it released. I did stop reading them around the Paths of darkness series though as I do not read like I used to. It always dissapointed me that the folks at D&D later misrepresented his swords in pictures as they are not Scimitars. Yes at the VERY end of the blade there is a slight curve but these swords are not true scimitars. Of course if you go and buy a representation of his swords, to for instance hang on your wall, you will not find true scimitars just these blades which more resembles sabers. True, these are not the blades he brought up from Menzo as those were destroyed by the light. Salvatore always described these two new swords as Scimitars. In my head and from my memory, especially in the Dark Elf triliogy, his swords were written as curved. The original covers of Streams of Silver and Halflings gem his sword more closely resemble true Scimitars. Anyway mini rant over. Awesome video man I enjoyed remembering some of the lore from my favorite books as a kid.
A lot of people have complained about the weapons not being scimitars. Thank you for writing a thoughtful commentary about it. I agree, and I’m not sure why they changed their shape. Maybe I can find some answer to that question. Thanks so much for watching and supporting the channel. New videos every Monday! If you haven’t caught up on the books (we’re at 39 and counting now), the series is really awesome and the past several trilogies have been fantastic.
@@helloidharbl6753 you'll have to take that up with Wizards of the Coast, they control the character and direct the artists who draw them. Hope you enjoyed the video!
god i really hate the artwork for this guys blades...... Scimitars..... CURVED BLADES. Nearly all fan art is a bloody single edged, straight back sword with a broader tip that has a curve in it. An actual Scimitar has the back curved as well. Even in the books they describe the blades as curved. Not like a cutlass from a pirate, but definately has a curve in the back and the blade. There are several novels in which it even describes the wounds done by the blades, which aids in the description.....
Spoiler warning… Twinkle is no more and it has now merged into a new blade that Drizzt uses. Be cool to dive into that weapon and what it does because it’s hard to find any info on it to date
Ingeloakastimizilian, is this the most difficult name to pronouce in fantasy lore? Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar, from Magic, the gathering takes the cake, I believe.
They would both need to be homebrewed to some extent. Icingdeath would probably like a +3 Frostbrand mixed with Armor of Resistance (Fire) And in this iteration of Twinkle, it would likely be a +3 Weapon of Warning with a bonus +1 to AC and maybe have a once per day light cantrip. I've never made or used these in D&D, but this is my best guess.
