In the pilot episode of our all-new show Back In Time hosted by Kunal Kamra, documentary filmmaker Anand Patwardhan recounts the sociopolitical climate leading up to the Babri Masjid demolition.
In October 1990, when Kar sevaks clashed with the police on their way to the masjid, at least 20 people were killed. Anand talks about how class and caste played into the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and how Hindutva forces used some bhakts as martyrs during the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992.

1990 during Samajwadi Party had successfully curbed the KarSevaks to enter Ayodhya, 1992 they weren't in power (guess who was) and the police didn't stop the mobs. The mosque was demolished and here we are.
