The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, often stylized as tiff) is one of the most prestigious and largest publicly attended film festivals in the world, founded in 1976 and taking place each September. It is also a permanent destination for film culture operating out of the TIFF Bell Lightbox cultural centre, located in Downtown Toronto.
Anand Patwardhan is an Indian documentary filmmaker known for his socio-political, human rights-oriented films. Some of his films explore the rise of religious fundamentalism, sectarianism and casteism in India, while others investigate nuclear nationalism and unsustainable development.
Esteemed documentarian Anand Patwardhan directs a portrait of his parents, whose families were intertwined with Gandhi and India’s independence movement. His view on history extolls unity between Hindus and Muslims, a value that needs reasserting in modern politics.

Certainly one of the finest filmmaker of our country where secularism has become some kind of a joke which have become repetitive to an extent where it became a mockery of sorts. Nevertheless a fine interview where a great speaks about how difficult is for him to make a film and show it to the people. He never stopped.. He never stops... What's our excuse???

Kyon nahin dekhenge. There are many with a soul still thriving though their numbers are shrinking. It was India that mattered back then not upmanship of one religion over the others, people mattered, feelings mattered, holistic development mattered, debates, contrarian thoughts mattered. It is almost impossible to find another human being like Gandhi. My father was of similar principles and he was murdered too. I know what it is to life that life. We didn’t have opulence but led a qualitative life. I am trying to lead a life of transparency, integrity, honesty and of conscience. Doesn’t always help me but I can look at people in the eye and even they realise “ yeh Aadmi galat kaam nahi karega”
Hats off to Anandji. It requires guts, passion and immense love for the country and his films hold a mirror to the society only if it wants to look into it.
Just think about it . The bamiyan Buddha was destroyed by the taliban. Advani led the destruction of a national monument ( a masjid alright still it has history) . What is the difference between him and them. Are we short of Rama temples in the country. Would the mythical Rama complained of yet another temple was constructed elsewhere. It is all political to divide and hurt sensibilities.
Advani gets a Bharat Ratna. For what. Will our nation become all virtuous now that the temple is in place. All Indians should introspect because the beauty of our nation is its diversity and inclusivity. That is what makes us special

In truest sense, Anand Patwardhan stands as tall Satyajit Ray as India's answer to global cinema.
