you can always tell when musicians are really happy with their music. it fills my heart up to see her smile while performing. she must be so content and excited to be performing and sharing the music she wrote and made.
How could she not be? She _knows_ she's at a pinnacle that most people can't even fathom. And I totally agree with you....I love seeing musicians/artists who clearly love their own music _as much_ if not more than their fans.
I love the way the guitar sounds at the end, how she pitches her voice really high at the end of some words, and how she can work guitar pedals in 8 in. heels.
annie is amazing...what an artist...how can so much talent be crammed into one human being....?lyricist,musician,performance artist, incredible guitar player,beauty...wow...
I watched (and commented on) this when it was a new upload, all those years ago. Are people still really bitching over this guitar solo?! I adore this version.
My wish is for Annie Clark and Jack White to get together for a day. Just the two of them along with their guitars. They would create the most insanely creative amazing music together 🤷🏻♂️ I’d love to see that happen 🤞🏼
Because most people are there to actually listen and appreciate the music being played in front of them rather than to jump up and down aimlessly like 16 year olds at their first ever music festival
Andy Barratt Yeah, I think that's why I'm not a fully paid-up fan. She seems not to be trying to make music to be enjoyed. There are always things out of time or jarring. Needs a bit of polish.
I get the feeling the monitor she had was not very good. Another thing is the almost Disco euro sound. This is typical in The Netherlands. They have been in to the ABBA sound from clear back when I lived there. This is not a good fit for Anne.
Not sure I understand the comment? This was filmed in London, not The Netherlands. And for all the BBC's faults it has some of the best sound engineers in the world. I don't have a problem with the sound.
another mindblowing performance numbed by the the motionless audience. how can jools promote great artists yet always find the wrong people to show it to?
Is there a delay on her in-ears or something? She sounding like she was fighting to keep the tempo nearly the entire time and nearly started dragging behind in some places. She did well other than that.
Well a lot of people on here agree this isn't right. But hey, she's having fun and hopefully making piles of ridiculous money for this stuff. Amazing! Live life and be happy people. Go do it yourselves and make money just like this.
There's nothing funny about hearing loss. Especially for a musician. If that drummer loses his hearing he gotta change his career: customer service, estate agent (imagine Dave Grohl in a suit, it's not even worth thinking about) ... what if he ends up going back to school, now he's out of a job and he's broke, possibly with a family to feed. He finally finishes university to go into a boring dead-end career in finance until he jumps off a bridge. I'ts no joke, protect your ears!
IDK.. she strikes me as the kind of person that would brag about herself, or she honestly thinks she is very talented. It's a dick thing to say but her face is just a resting bitch mixed with my shit doesn't stink kind of look. Does any of this are sense?
This sucks so bad. She needs to waste her money, on her own album, and be forced to listen to it for three days straight. Perhaps then, she'll understand how badly she blows.

I agree brother, money is not enough for her passion, love it!!!!!!!

+Alex Pimentel you couldn't say any better ;) he was all that and further more
She's so badass I love it
Just discovered St. Vincent this past summer and they are definitely one of my favorite bands now 😁

Ze'ev. grow up
maurice higney chill. I only said I've seen her before. no insult was made or intended.
none taken x
Ze'ev. I'm trying to get all over TH-cam. I don't watch TV anymore. I substitute it with TH-cam :-)
What a great sound and beautiful Lady
this girl blows my mind...
SHRED IT ANNIE
I adore this! Also, her performance of Northern Lights from this show is also spectacular.
omg i love her so much i can't wait to see her in march!!!
Totally rad tune
she's so precious ahhh
I watched (and commented on) this when it was a new upload, all those years ago.

I adore this version.
sounds like an angel

WOW.. That was Awesome!!
Her voice
Annie at her most beautiful! Love love LOVE her hair in this style!
Wonderful...
I love this!
Yes! I´m a new big St. Vincent fan!
She jammeth on that guitar, and she's a real looker, too. :)
i am so in love
holy fuck.
Sie ist toll!!! Love her charism!
Exceptional Musician Annie
i really wish the studio version of this song also had that amazing final solo
Amazing.
My budgies are having a good day.
She's growing on me. As a fellow female guitar player, I'm trying to understand her approach.
THAT FUZZ TONE....
meravigliosa e sorprendente. .!
Her voice is mesmerizing.
Did she almost wipe out at 03:14 ? That heel slide tho.
Awesome!
I love when she get crazy !!!!
Looks like she almost took a spill at 3:14, but she still kept rocking.
I don't know whats more awesome. . .how amazing she is, or the drummer's head phones.
Pins to die for!
It's weird but this song sounds like a christmas song in the chords and structure......
Great artist. Love the kinda African-sounding guitar melody on this song.
Belle.
effects pedal with high heels? i like it.
Tigran Hamasyan to St. Vincent...Wow. Imagine seeing that on US TV.
She's beautiful
excelente!
If you like St Vincent, why not try Kimbra. She's got a very similar style and sound but is just as good.
gibbonduder182 i personally think Kimbra sound is more electronic driven ps i love both
+gibbonduder182 LOVE Kimbra!
Kimbra is a talented babe like Annie here, but Annie fuckin shreds on guitar....
Hun er så søt
check out the amazing interview with her on Q tv if you haven't already
bad ass
Anyone know how I could get my hands on the guitar effect at 1:36? It looks like its a dark blue boss pedal..
serious fuzz tone at the end.
I like don’t get how she does that riff and sings at the same time
Mary Timony-ish..nice!
Bjork with an axe. How fun.
Because most people are there to actually listen and appreciate the music being played in front of them rather than to jump up and down aimlessly like 16 year olds at their first ever music festival
What pedals is she stomping on during the solo? Looks like a Boss pedal
Are the synths turned down or is it just my shifty phone?
A fools Portfolio shifty😂
I think at least 4034 views of this are from me. I.Just.Can't.Stop. It's scary. I need St Vincent rehab.
All of her performances on Jool's Holland sound like she has a delay on her monitors. I don't think she can hear herself.
I think in this instance, it's deliberate. The vocals and lead guitar on the studio version are always a fraction behind the beat.
Andy Barratt Yeah, I think that's why I'm not a fully paid-up fan. She seems not to be trying to make music to be enjoyed. There are always things out of time or jarring. Needs a bit of polish.
That all depends on one persons idea of being polished though. Each to their own.
ubertoaster99 ' She seems not to be trying to make music to be enjoyed. '
?
What I said. It's more like 'art', you know?
I get the feeling the monitor she had was not very good. Another thing is the almost Disco euro sound. This is typical in The Netherlands. They have been in to the ABBA sound from clear back when I lived there. This is not a good fit for Anne.

What kind of guitar is that?
another mindblowing performance numbed by the the motionless audience. how can jools promote great artists yet always find the wrong people to show it to?
Haha, right! :D
I kinda think that's the point
where'd cheerleader and northern lights go?
Content ID.
joedaviso Sad. I think the Jools team are on a rampage, loads of his vids have been taken down recently.
ShortForAH03 which channel?
Pretty raw...lots of rough edges here. Definitely a great song but not the best performance, in my opinion.
She's developed fantastically from this moment on though her skill as a guitarist is exemplary.
Is there a delay on her in-ears or something? She sounding like she was fighting to keep the tempo nearly the entire time and nearly started dragging behind in some places. She did well other than that.
+razrv3lc She's singing behind the beat, you rightly observe. Very, very intentional. It's a jazz thing and she knows what she is doing.
Bjork vibe....
far out
i love cruel women...i'm a masochist!
I see ya @0:44
My wife :3
Why isn't the audience pogo-ing and moshing?
manco82 because it’s on the BBC.
il gatto mangia l'uccello....
Wife

guy on the drums wearing ear defenders lmao!
so?
+su z there faking massive
+Harley Norris tinnitis is no joke!
+Bill Muxworthy no shit just funny that's all

hipsters be spending $1000s to make their guitar sound like that
Awful - cruel to my ears. bye...peace.
Terrible.
She strikes me as a pretentious person...idk why
+Bo Deanicus (Bodeanicus) thanks man
+Garrett Isenhart if she wasn't so pretentious, I'd be a big fan. she makes good music but I never was for choreographed live performances
Right!!
what do you mean by that exactly
IDK.. she strikes me as the kind of person that would brag about herself, or she honestly thinks she is very talented. It's a dick thing to say but her face is just a resting bitch mixed with my shit doesn't stink kind of look. Does any of this are sense?
This can't be serious? Awful...
This sucks so bad. She needs to waste her money, on her own album, and be forced to listen to it for three days straight.
Perhaps then, she'll understand how badly she blows.
this song is horrible in the beginning...and keeps that up right to the end. Job not well done. thumbs down. pooh.
really? you're not being sarcastic?
Not her best performance, but still a really nice song! RESPECT St. Vincent - love ya
I find that every performance on Jools Holland sounds terrible for some reason, so I don't think you can blame St. Vincent on this.
Watch the :Letterman performance, much better, or the 4AD session.
Can't sing. Can't play. Is this what passes for talent these days?
+Carlton Moody Can sing. Can play. Is definitely passing for talent these days.
Bloody amazing
