To be honest she seems more connected to and from Earth than most - I think that groundedness and relation to the Earth is absolutely and especially integrally part of an Icelandic identity I feel you though- some people have almost a godly quality - for me other living examples would be Werner Herzog or Martha Argerich ~
You look back on this and you cannot help but think "F me, that woman had a musical vision". Imagine how many people would be (helpfully) trying to tell you to do it differently, more conventionally, more 'audience friendly' but she just dives in there, full on. We've become a little accustomed over the years to hearing Bjork, but her work is really extraordinary.. What a great artist
I agree but back then , originality was respected and encouraged , mainstream music today is almost factory produced with big corporations churning out the same well worn tripe to be lapped up by the brain dead.
Not so far from the truth. If you visit Iceland you'll find it's a remote island with a striking semblance to the landscape of our moon or something you'd find in a sci-fi show like Star Trek or video game like No Man's Sky. Disconnected from the rest of the world, and with tiny population density, it truly is like a foreign planet. So the analogy isn't far off in her case.
She looks especially beautiful here, and her talents as a musician are simply astounding. Here's an artist who writes and arranges all here own material which happens to be musically sophisticated, totally original, with mass crossover appeal. They're very few artists in any medium you've done that.

You may want to check out AURORA in case you haven't yet - for a younger generation musician/vocalist with a vision. Cannot guarantee you'll like it as well, not that obviously unique probably, but worth a shot IMO.
This version of Hyperballad is absolutely incredible. It's such a difficult track to pull off live because there are so many disparate elements, but, good god, it's arguably better than the studio version.
She sacrifices vocal health to deliver the perfect pitch note time after time. She's willing to hurt her own voice to achieve the most beautiful sounds. I guess it's because she understands that in the end, holding back to preserve something that will one day inevitably degrade and decompose (the body) makes no sense since it would impede her creation process, which is her priority.

I was fortunate to meet Björk in Pretoria during her South African tour. I found her charming and was happy to pay for her breakfast. She was very knowledgeable about Icelandic mythology and Magnus Magnusson, another hero of mine.
I literally got shivers hearing this again. The 90's had a lot of legitimately great alternative artists breaking through. It might have been the last decade of truly groundbreaking music emerging, while those artists also having the talent to back up the vision. Damn, I feel old...
Just love this woman’s talent and her music. Most artists I can work out some influences/DNA of where their music comes from but Bjork and Kate Bush are just so unique and defy comparison.

Her voice is like 5 different genres. These songs were way before their time.
And it is her greatest instrument

I can’t even mention the word genre with with Lady!
I love the stream of consciousness controlled
The narrative in these lyrics are amazing!!! The opening movement. She’s a genius poetess.
I love the mundanity and naivety of lyrics in a second language. She did this really well in the Sugarcubes.
