Plenty of room for a bike repair stand in that loungeroom Tim! Merry Christmas, Happy new year to you and family. Have a fantastic adventure next year, safe travels and look forward to the video updates of it. 🥳
Haha, Its the only place it works. I have one of those cheap Aldi stands and the footprint is so massive its very difficult to setup on the balcony. The loungroom works well. As long as it doesn't block the TV 😃 Cheers for the kind words. Happy New Year 👍
Lol, you're a brave man. Reminds me of one year when I bought my girlfriend some disc brakes for her bike for her birthday. She was appreciative, at least faked the appreciation, thinking "what else could I expect from a MTBer boyfriend. Later that night at dinner she got the real present - an engagement ring. 19 years and 3 kids later, she's still putting with me and a metric sh*tload of bikes cluttering up the basement.
Haha, Not that brave, I was tempted to give her the bike before the sewing machine to get her reaction. Sounds like your gift was a good decoy, or was the first gift just a test before the big proposal??? She passed and I'm glad things worked out so well. 😅 I'm starting to think Sarah was just in a good mood on Christmas Day. I'm not sure the idea of holding onto this bike is still on the cards. I'll keep testing the waters. Cheers
Cheers mate. The stars have definitely aligned for this one. I hope its as good as i'm imagining. Still another month before we leave but its getting close. Counting down the days now.
Haha, such a good sticker 🤣 I hope she doesn't read this but turns out the bloke I bought it off buys and sells old bikes. Looks like he picked it up for $15 from the op shop. I may have paid a little more for it. I was never removing that sticker though 😆
It's a beautiful bike and you're right the decals are awesome, does it have mostly Suntour and Dia-Comnpe on it? I have an older Kosciuszko in an olive/khaki colour that came with and is made for 650B wheels which was surprising. In case you were wondering, the hierarchy of Apollo's old MTB models goes Everest, Matterhorn, Himalaya, Kosciuszko and then about 6 more lower end models.
Yeah it has Suntour a-3000 shifters and derailleurs. The triple chain ring says CUSTOM on it and it looks really nice. Come to think of it. I don't think I showed that in the video. I thought Sarah would be keen for a pedal and i was going to show the bike a bit more out on the street. That didn't happen. Its interesting about the hierarchy you mention, that would mean the 90's Himalaya I have is up high on the list. I haven't pulled it out in a while but from memory there was nothing that really excited me about the bike apart from how clean it was. Its pretty much been sitting in a garage its whole life.
Love the Apollo Himalaya Tim!! It was my first real mountain bike I used around the Bellingen/Nambucca area where I grew up. I bought it new in 1984 from Bob Wallace Cycles in Coffs Harbour. It was a great touring mountain bike!! 😊
Thats awesome. Growing up I visited that area a lot, My grandmother lived in Macksville. I'm guessing thats where this Apollo Himalaya I have on my balcony lived most its life. Just sitting in her garage or maybe under the house. I thought i'd google what an 84 model looks like and just stumbled across this website. The 84 model is a terrible picture but it has confirmed that my Kosciusko is an 88 model. Cool to see the different models. Cheers mtbtimeline.com/wiki/apollo/start
I've been working on it, So much footage its hard to squish down into a good length. I also didn't tell much of a story, which i want to do, This edit is going to be tricky. Wish me luck!
I'm so glad someone else does bike tinkering/maintenance in their living room of a 2 bed apartment 😊 Happy New Year mate. Hope you can fit in some bikepacking trips while on the long drive.
Haha, Sarah loves that our loungeroom doubles as a workshop. I'm lucky our carpet is a similar colour to grease 🤣 I definitely plan to do some bikepacking trips while on the road. I've got all my gear packed in boxes ready to load into the car. Just need to find a spot to transport the bikes. It may also be a bit tricky doing big ones as i don't want to leave Sarah alone in the van for days on end. Saying that, who knows what the year will bring. We don't have many plans.
I probably should have shown in the video the 2 bikes hidden in the roof space. The original Raleigh and my old Giant. Does that count? Its common property up there and i probably shouldn't be storing bikes up there. wonder if i can fit in a 3rd bike haha
Good onya mate 👍 pay it forward, great karma. My one bedroom keeps my gear tight storage wise😅. Looking forward to seeing your "big lap" trip. Happy 40th 🎉 Happy New year to you all 🎉
Cheers mate. I've known I'll never have space for it. but was hoping to ride it up to the top of Kosci for a sunset and photo shoot. thought it would be fun. That's out of the equation now. I might have a few bikes I'll be paying forward. Happy New Year!
Wow Man you do have some bike collection I have four and want to down size to Two Bicycles but it's Bloody hard to let go lol.Hey great video keep up the great work 👍 Hey Happy New Year cheers 🍻 👏
I have a lot of bikes but none are worth much. Its more of a graveyard haha. Theres a few more stashed in the roof and my parents place. I'm struggling to part ways with them as well. Its a real problem 😂 Cheers HNY
I raced the green version of that bike in 89/ 90. Is it indexed gearing or friction shift? On a side note, it seems you haven't learnt from your over loaded bike packing adventures. A grey nomad caravan? 🤔
@@mattde27 Nice, I’d love to see the green version now. The shifters on this bike are like friction shift but they do click, not sure what category you would put them in. As for the caravan, Sarah’s mum has been travelling and living in the van for about 5 years and wants to move back to Sydney. I suggested we do a house swap to save us having to buy a van. It’s a good option but a bit bigger than ideal. It will be nice in bad weather but the rest of the time it will be a pain to drag around. For the ease of not having to put all our furniture in storage and changing our postal address. It’s going to be worth it. I’ve never been good at going minimalist. I’ll probably need the space 😂
Haha, Sarah's not keen at all. I want it so bad though, but space is a real issue. I took it for its first pedal today and it felt good. Now I'm really torn.
Too many bikes ? That is a crazy idea, you can never have too many bikes !
Haha, My belief's are the same as yours. Still trying to convert the boss though.

I suspect there is space in the bathroom too!

Merry xmas mate. That a appollo is sweet
haha, nearly forgot about that one 😆
Merry Christmas mate!. You know what i'll be riding if i can convince you all to do a clunker ride!
Awesome house swap. Looks like 2025 is going to be fantastic for you guys. Always enjoy your videos 🙌🙌
Cheers mate. The stars have definitely aligned for this one. I hope its as good as i'm imagining. Still another month before we leave but its getting close. Counting down the days now.
Cheers! Happy New Year Tim!
I'd be dead if I worked on my bikes in the house
I can't stop laughing at this. I've had some disturbing looks. I'm still alive though. Just! 😆
The problem isn't too many bikes...just sayin
That is a good looking bike at least you tried, smart idea putting the $15 sticker on there that could have saved me a few arguments 😁
Haha, such a good sticker 🤣

@advanturest Many thanks for the link Tim! I went to Macksville High School and lived in the upper valley called Missabotti. Small world!
Looking forward to seeing your 40th Birthday ride.

Merry Christmas Tim! Have a ripper break and enjoy your New Year. Looking forward to seeing what you get up to!
Cheers Paul. Its work, work, work, for 3 more weeks. then its game time. Can't wait to hit the road 👍
Merry Christmas Tim and Sarah
Cheers Gerard

@advanturest you know what the solution to leaving sarah in the car is? Taking sarah along! She needs a bike 🤣
You dont even have any bikes hanging from the roof! Plenty of room for more! Merry Christmas guys!
I probably should have shown in the video the 2 bikes hidden in the roof space. The original Raleigh and my old Giant. Does that count?

@advanturest Have a great 2025 👍
Love that bike, she's a beut :)
I finally took it for its first pedal today. Apart from the terrible brakes it felt great to ride. How can I possibly get rid of it haha.

Is she gunna keep it?

Me thinks that bike will end up in Ronnie's shed with the rest of your crap 🙂
The odds are high, but I know someone else that might store it for me in their big shed. It might never come out though.
