I have too many old bikes - Gifting a 1988 Apollo Kosciusko for Christmas
I bought an old Apollo Kosciusko months ago on marketplace and had been hiding it from my wife. I tried gifting it to her for Christmas, Its the only way I had the guts to tell her I bought it. Also some life updates and a Merry Christmas.
Here is the blog I found with the guy on the old Apollo Everest digitalhippie.net/1988-solo-mtb-adventure/

Tasmania turned it on for us - Winter Wedding Anniversary Trip
มุมมอง 1.5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
For our 10 year wedding anniversary we headed back to the place we visited on our honeymoon. Tasmania. I had absolutely no intentions on making a video, but i did want to get a few shots just for a 2024 wrap up video. Well the weather in Tassie turned it on and I couldn't stop filming bits and peices. So with all this footage, I've thrown this video together. It's kind of more a holiday video f...

After a busy few months, and a desire to play with some video files. I had been craving getting out and filming as much as i could on my main camera so i could make something and practise my colour grading. This is a slow solo trip around Kanagra-Boyd National Park with heaps of tripod shots. At the end of the video I talk about doing a group ride for my birthday. Here are some details. GROUP R...
Swift Campout - Winter Solstice Bikepacking - Brandy Flat Hut, Namadgi NP

The Swift Campout is a thing, Bike camping over the Solstice weekend. So, on the longest night of the year, a group of riders from Canberra do just that. This year, when I heard it was happening I put it in my diary. Unsure whether I'd be available, I had it in the back of my mind. The week before Sarah told me she was busy, so I got my bike ready, and made it happen. I really wasn't sure what ...

The last few years on the June long weekend, Sarah and I have been heading out to a different lookout with wine and cheese and we just enjoy the sunset. Once the sun sets we hike out under torch. It's bloody great a...

Me thinks that bike will end up in Ronnie's shed with the rest of your crap 🙂
Soooooo Is she gunna keep it?
Lol, you're a brave man. Reminds me of one year when I bought my girlfriend some disc brakes for her bike for her birthday. She was appreciative, at least faked the appreciation, thinking "what else could I expect from a MTBer boyfriend. Later that night at dinner she got the real present - an engagement ring. 19 years and 3 kids later, she's still putting with me and a metric sh*tload of bikes cluttering up the basement.
It's a beautiful bike and you're right the decals are awesome, does it have mostly Suntour and Dia-Comnpe on it? I have an older Kosciuszko in an olive/khaki colour that came with and is made for 650B wheels which was surprising. In case you were wondering, the hierarchy of Apollo's old MTB models goes Everest, Matterhorn, Himalaya, Kosciuszko and then about 6 more lower end models.
You dont even have any bikes hanging from the roof! Plenty of room for more! Merry Christmas guys!
I probably should have shown in the video the 2 bikes hidden in the roof space. The original Raleigh and my old Giant. Does that count? Its common property up there and i probably shouldn't be storing bikes up there. wonder if i can fit in a 3rd bike haha
@@advanturest hahhah fair enough that counts for sure!
Love that bike, she's a beut :)
I'd be dead if I worked on my bikes in the house
Too many bikes ? That is a crazy idea, you can never have too many bikes !
I'm so glad someone else does bike tinkering/maintenance in their living room of a 2 bed apartment 😊 Happy New Year mate. Hope you can fit in some bikepacking trips while on the long drive.
Haha, Sarah loves that our loungeroom doubles as a workshop. I'm lucky our carpet is a similar colour to grease 🤣 I definitely plan to do some bikepacking trips while on the road. I've got all my gear packed in boxes ready to load into the car. Just need to find a spot to transport the bikes. It may also be a bit tricky doing big ones as i don't want to leave Sarah alone in the van for days on end. Saying that, who knows what the year will bring. We don't have many plans.
@advanturest you know what the solution to leaving sarah in the car is? Taking sarah along! She needs a bike 🤣
...and the Canada vids 😅 Merry xmas mate. That a appollo is sweet
haha, nearly forgot about that one 😆 Merry Christmas mate!. You know what i'll be riding if i can convince you all to do a clunker ride!
I raced the green version of that bike in 89/ 90. Is it indexed gearing or friction shift? On a side note, it seems you haven't learnt from your over loaded bike packing adventures. A grey nomad caravan? 🤔
@@mattde27 Nice, I’d love to see the green version now. The shifters on this bike are like friction shift but they do click, not sure what category you would put them in. As for the caravan, Sarah’s mum has been travelling and living in the van for about 5 years and wants to move back to Sydney. I suggested we do a house swap to save us having to buy a van. It’s a good option but a bit bigger than ideal. It will be nice in bad weather but the rest of the time it will be a pain to drag around. For the ease of not having to put all our furniture in storage and changing our postal address. It’s going to be worth it. I’ve never been good at going minimalist. I’ll probably need the space 😂
Looking forward to seeing your 40th Birthday ride.
Wow Man you do have some bike collection I have four and want to down size to Two Bicycles but it's Bloody hard to let go lol.Hey great video keep up the great work 👍 Hey Happy New Year cheers 🍻 👏

Good onya mate 👍 pay it forward, great karma. My one bedroom keeps my gear tight storage wise😅. Looking forward to seeing your "big lap" trip. Happy 40th 🎉 Happy New year to you all 🎉
Cheers mate. I've known I'll never have space for it. but was hoping to ride it up to the top of Kosci for a sunset and photo shoot. thought it would be fun. That's out of the equation now. I might have a few bikes I'll be paying forward. Happy New Year!

Hi Tim, love your content mate and always looking forward to the next video. I was hoping to join you for the big birthday ride but didn't make it back to Australia until two days ago and I presume it's already happened. But... my brother and I are preparing to ride your loop between Christmas and New Year's, probably in a 4-day trip considering some of the ascents and the heat. So we're wondering how it turned out and if there is anything that you would change or recommend to do differently? Any particular hut or campsite that stood out along the way? Would appreciate any feedback that you might have... Cheers from Canberra! Mik
@@tubegenic Hi Mik, just got home last night, we rode from Thursday to Sunday and it was stinking hot but we had a great time. I will be making a video but probably not before you ride it. Cascade hut and Tin Mine huts are a great spot to camp. I wouldn’t camp at Ingeegoodbee as it’s not level. Also toilets at the other places. In between Tin Mine huts and ingeegoodbee hut there was actual some beautiful grassy areas with nice creeks that could also be an amazing option. When I go through my photos in a day or so I’ll add a link here so you can check it out. Halfway Flat on the snowy river was crap so we stayed at Jacobs River campground. It was nice. There are other options along the snowy river as more of a wild camp situation. You just have to ride and choose. It also depends which way you ride. Most people went down nine mile trail which is from Ingeegoodbee. Apparently it’s crazy steep but cuts out about 35km. Myself and 1 other took the longer route into Vic to see another hut. We then rode 30km along the snowy river back to camp. You could miss some of the nicer spots if you went the short route. This is the long way that I did. ridewithgps.com/routes/47487517
@@advanturest Thanks Tim for all the detailed info! This will certainly make planning a little easier 👍🏻 Glad you guys had a blast out there. Looking forward to the video. Cheers!

Hi Tim, coward here, love the idea of downhill mountain biking and your vid, as ever, captures it beautifully. However the idea of smacking into a tree full tilt puts me off a bit 😂 Really love your videos, always look forward to them.
I recently did the Bedford Creek / Anderson Fire Trail a couple of months ago. I was looking for a non-highway way of getting to Lincoln’s Rock… I was not prepared at all. I took my e-bike but it didn’t help, it probably hindered, especially as it’s about 60% of my weight and it went flat. I had to walk most of the way. My phone also went flat and I wondered if I’d make it out alive! I went the opposite direction to you, Woodford to Wentworth Falls and I will probably never do it again!!! I did discover Murphys Glen Campground though and that was cool. Bedford Creek can kiss my bottom though!! Ugh!! Too steep!!!
Great to share in your fun and celebration! Keep investing in this. Only improvement, a tiny typesetting peeve: the capitals used in "THE END" don't work in my opinion
Happy anniversary guys, I've always wanted to go to Tasmania, you have defo sold it to me... For me there is no better place on earth than Oz and New Zealand... Cheers again for an awesome video..👍
Enjoyed the energy and enthusiasm for adventure
Happy anniversary Tim and Sarah. Mark and I lived there for quite a bit. A special place for us also ❤
Saw this come up and made a mental note to sit down and watch it. I'm glad I did. That's a place I would like to visit some day. Great variety of shots and footage. Thank-you for making this.
Tassie is a beautiful place. While the touristy areas are beautiful, there is definitely a lot of farm land in between and a bit of driving to be done. With that in mind, everywhere seems so relaxed. The country roads are quiet and a nice drive. I recommend visiting the area one day. I was worried the video would drag on too long, to many nice scenes to share though 😂 Thanks for watching.
Nice welding skills. But it's '90s. Not 90's.
English never was my strong suit 😂
@@advanturest That's ok, apostrophes are multi-lingual! 😄
That was an awesome vid mate! Well done
Cheers mate. This one was nearly set as private on youtube as its a bit of a family holiday type video that i thought nobody would be interested in. I ended up making it live just in case it helped anyone with their own planning. Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers
We fell in love with Tassie in a similar way: in June ‘86 our first holiday together was a road trip over on the ferry. Then 5 years later we flew in for a 3 week honeymoon. I had a few more trips either on my own to visit my sister, (now living there) or with friends or with my children. But for our 25th wedding anniversary we did the Cradle Mountain overland 6 day hike, as it had been something I had wanted to do since that very first trip. Then the next year I did the same high loop with my son that you just did on the face track. It’s been 7 years since my last visit, and we are heading down in January for 2 weeks and I can’t wait! 😊
This is awesome, I love hearing stories like this. During our hike around the face track Sarah decided she wants to do the overland track for her 40th birthday. Thats roughly 20 months away and I'm already excited 😆. This trip also got her really keen for more Tassie hikes and last month she went back and did the 3 capes hike with her friend Steph. (its taken me a while to finish this video). I hope your trip in January is awesome and I hope the weather turns it on like it did for us. Cheers.
Happy Anniversary Tim and Sarah. Another great vid, thanks for sharing. Love the Retro feel and wipes etc. Love Tassie, and Derby is defs on the list of must sees now; your ride looked amazing!! Thanks again and keep em coming please. Cheers Pete ;-D
Cheers Pete, Tassie is such a nice place. What's interesting is after this visit, which was my 3rd time there, I've heard its often windy in Tasmania. I'm yet to witness it though. It seems every time i go there the weather is beautiful. I didn't think i'd make this video but the weather just kept drawing me to my camera. Even in Derby, I took my chest mount to get the odd shot just to have, I ended up with hours of footage. It was crazy haha. Next year Sarah and I will be on the road so i should have a lot more time to keep going on adventures and hopefully making videos. Cheers for the support. Much appreciated. Tim 👍
Nice video - heading there next week for 7 weeks! Excited about Derby 🚴🏿
Derby is really cool, There was a shuttle bus hanging around but i think i was the only rider so i ended up doing the XC loop. I loved the loop but i was buggered by the end. Even on an E-bike. So many trails i missed. I'll definately have to be back. Blue Teir was closed for winter as well. I have to head back just for that. Enjoy your travels mate! 👍
Great stuff!
Nice one, but don't tell too many people how awesome it is 😉. And how much fun is Derby!
All you locals telling the country how cold and miserable it is in Tassie, I can see what you're doing. Your secrets out now mate 🤣 As for Derby, I feel like I didn't even scratch the surface. What an amazing job the trail builders have done. I loved it and will be back!
Your wedding venue wouldn't have been at Yarrahapinni would it?
@@jaslr No it wasn’t, we got married at Kangaroo Valley Bush retreat. It completely burnt down in the 2020 fires but I think it’s rebuilt now. I spent a fair amount of time up around Yarrahapinni as a kid. Is there something similar around there for weddings?
@@advanturest Thanks for the reply - yeah there definitely is. A place called Yarra Adventure Park has a venue called the Rock Chapel that looks remarkably similar. Great video. All the best.
@@jaslr Yarrahpinni as in, near grassy head on the mid-north coast? Funnily enough I also spent a fair bit of time there as a kid and never knew either.

Is it possible to use the rear brake without adding the reinforcement tube?
I've had no problems on multiple bikes. One of my bikes I've even got the rotor clamped on with a hose clamp and its been fine. All these bikes have been used mainly for bikepacking so the bikes are pretty heavy generally.

Also need to mention, we appreciate the effort you go to setup the camera, double back, ride a section or crossing, then go collect the camera again. 😂
Hi Tim. Thanks mate, another great vid, and really enjoy 'riding' along with you. I love the time and effort you go to, to make the visual sense of the vids work, the cutting, going away shots, cutaways etc; it must mean a lot of too'ing and fro'ing, setting up and down and grabbing gear. Keep it up matey, love your work. Cheers, Pete 😊
Cheers Pete. Its definitely a lot of work, I really enjoy just slowing down and doing it, playing with the camera is kind of like therapy for me 😆. I get to zone out and just tap away at getting shots. It's peaceful. I think after doing it all day on the Saturday i'd pretty much got over it and was wondering why i go to so much effort. Its only when i'm back at work when I realise i want to be back outside playing with a camera. Thanks for watching another one. Cheers
