For the Kammy Koopa segment, I expected him to say, "All fighters also turn invisible after awhile, referencing how Kammy Koopa is nowhere to be seen in recent Paper Mario games."

I think Dimentio causing damage by falling is a reference to how one of Super Dimentio’s attacks is jumping up into the air and crashing down.

Figure-8 Circuit is actually a course in Mario Kart DS. (Heck, the shy guys use the DS standard kart model. However, the smash version has a slightly different layout, not to mention it was originally called Mario Circuit in Brawl and for Wii U.)

I was dissapointed by the Mr. L and Dimentio spirits, but the rest of the spirit battles are great

All of the Mario RPG games (Seven Stars, Paper Mario, and M&L) are some of my favorite video games period. While I knew a lot of the basic stuff, your deep dives really helped me understand some of the finer details.
here's an odd question...when you eventually finish the Spirit battle origins, will you do a video or 2 about the Spirits that don't have battles? Like just going over who they are, what game they debuted in, etc...it sort of hit me watching this one that not all Spirits have battles & I got curious is all
Would be neat because there are some references. For example, you need Solidus and Rose to Summon Raiden because both are important for him: Solidus was the final boss in Sons of Liberty (Raiden "debut" Game, because he was actually referenced in Ghost Babel) but also he was Raiden's surrogate father. Rose, meanwhile, is Raiden's lover
The Mr L stage being the omega variant could also be related to the fact that the first time you meet Mr L the ground is completely flat after the world got destroyed, just like the bland, platformless Omega variant
So are the victory theme origins still happening?
Double Dash technically doesn’t have a standard kart model, though the Red/Green Fire and Toad/Toadette Kart have a similar look to the future Mario Kart DS standard kart.
You know, this game has music from Street Fighter II, Mario & Luigi and Kingdom Hearts (with some of the Smash remixes being by Yoko Shimomura herself) and has a Final Fantasy rep but no FFXV music.
the bigger FF music shock is the lack of any version of the Chocobo Theme....
@@newageBoundhippie There's no Battle on the Big Bridge either but Greg is conspicuously absent from the ENTIRE Compilation of Final Fantasy VII metaseries (FF7's equivalent of Fabula Nova, something FFX surprisingly didn't get in spite of having both a sequel (with a second sequel in the distant future after FF7R is done, you can blame Nomura's delay of Versus XIII for it not already existing) and the same dev team as FF7 and Kingdom Hearts (Nomura didn't lead the original FF7 or either FFX game mind but he was apparently more involved in general production than his credits as artist and character designer would have you believe)) and they only included FF7 music.
I wait so much to this to return. The Mario RPGs are my favorite series in the Mario Franchise.

3:48 As someone who played Mario Kart DS a lot as a kid, I'm upset you didn't know that Figure-8 Circuit came form MKDS, where the B-Dasher first originated.
Especially with how the screen in the background is also a reference to one of the touch screen view options in Mario Kart DS.

honestly i think aaron's a bit tired cause following that he says "you can't have the standard bike without the standard kart so that's what spirit 87 is" as if we had just talked about the standard bike

So great to have this series back, it has been too long! Always great to hear the little details that I missed the first time when playing through the spirit battles. Still, the spirt fights were the ones were you got it and you could go "Aww that's nice I understood that reference"
For the Geno spirit battle, I took the liberty of noting the similarities between each fighters Final Smashes and their associated characters’ special moves.
Actually you forgot one Mario Kart spirit being the Master Cycle. Despite being a spirit that shows Link, the Master Cycle is a kart from the first DLC of Mario Kart 8 so in SSBU they included it as a spirit from the Mario Kart Series.
Spirit or not I’m still glad they added some of the original characters from the first through paper Mario games, along side the other stuff from the modern paper Mario games

I have to say it is really awesome that you talked about the origins of these Spirit battles, although I'm wondering why it took like a whole month after the first episode which was much longer and full of way more information. Hopefully won't be too long of a wait for the next one.
Figure-8 Circuit is only in Mario Kart DS. You might have gotten it confused with Mario Kart Wii's Luigi Circuit.

@@Omeg1 Know your moves by RelaxAlax reviews the moves, their history and the philosophy behind it in a precise and funny way. On his channel he does talk about many other things like Sonic and Mario and ... Logos ? Persona 5 !
@@fl0_hrl Alax was however outed for being abusive, as well as texts showing confirmation and he tried to have a story where he seemed less bad. Would rather have a series in the hands of someone who is actually a much better person. No amount of apologies or time is gonna wash away an awful act and even worse handling of it.
@@Tsukiru agreed to an extent. I unsubscribed from that channel a while ago. I don't know if the story and handling got better or worse, but I just didn't feel comfortable being involved. I don't know for a fact that other youtubers aren't shitty of course, but I'm doing the best I can not to support certain people and actions.

Leon's is a reference to the village survival, with villagers and fox (because fox has a gun and maybe because there is a character named leon in star fox)
Wesker's is a reference to the final battle from RE5 in the volcano
Chris is a reference to RE6 with the city background, Snake and Chris both have training and Richter resembles Piers
Jill is a reference to RE1, fighting in a mansion with a slim female with a gun
The Goo-Goo buggy returned in Mario Kart Tour in the Cat Tour (2022), alongside a pink variant called the Goo-Goo Pink.
Doing a spiritless challenge through my spirit collection, watching those videos at the same time makes it even more fun, hope this series isn't dead because it's great ^-^

Small correction for the Princess Shroob spirit battle. On top of Princess Shroob wearing a red-ish/pink-ish outfit, after going through some of Partners in Time Princess Shroob impersonates Princess Peach to most likely take over the present time by having her army sneak in through the time portals scattered throughout Peach's Castle.
Although there's a funny error on the Smash Wiki. One of the listed inspirations for Antasma's spirit battle erroneously states that Dreamy Bowser is the combined form of Antasma and Bowser. This is false as Dreamy Bowser is created from Bowser inhaling the shards of the Dream Stone which possesses and enchances Bowser giving him the ability to create anything he can dream of in the real world.

My personal head canon for why the Biddybuggy spirit is so drawn to items is that in Mario Kart 8, sometimes I would be funny and item smuggle and the Biddybuggy was my cart of choice for it.

things that were wrong in this video
Standard Kart/Bike: I don't know where got this from but figure 8 circuit isn't from mario kart Wii, it's from Mario kart DS and is the very first track in the mushroom cup for it
Fawful: a few things are wrong here, Mechafuls did not exist in mario and luigi superstar saga they did however exist in the bowser's minions portion of the remake in the final level, while technically not wrong it's at least something that should have some specification, also while the fight itself is referencing the last area (though it could also be a reference to the bowser's castle that you fight fawful in superstar saga and the ROB could be representing the shell that you have to break through to get to fawful on the inside), you never actually fight dark fawful you fight dark bowser with spider fawful being the main fight. though
Dreambert: again don't know where you got this info but dreamy luigi didn't do anything when dreambert was saved, the duo get guided while within dreamy pi'illow castle by his spirit to the nightmare chunk and mario breaks it open, and it's not even something that's optional to have both of them do it, the game prompts you to do it as mario. Also the pink luigi might also be to reference the fact that in battle mario get's dreamy luigi's powers.
I thought you'd finish the victory screen origins before going back to this massive task.

I wish you can evolve Fawful into Dark Fawful and Paper Bowser into Shiny RoboBowser, huge missed opportunity! Also why wasn't Cackletta, Dark Bowser (or star) featured as spirits? You also forgot to cover Origami King spirits but probably because they came out later after the base game

It was a missed opportunity to make Mallow be represented by Cloud, since Mallow is a living Cloud
Unless Cloud’s Japanese name translates to something different (I’m not familiar with his series so I wouldn’t know), in which case it wouldn’t work in the Japanese version of the game. But if his name still was Cloud / the Japanese word for Cloud in the Japanese game, he really should have represented Mallow as a pun.
