Here I am two years later and coming to the same conclusion....I am working on two of them with the same issues..and they get it from overheating under the hood they all run way to hot.. drive one somewhere get out..lift the Hood and stand in front of the engine ...it's the same as the turbo cars I'm always repairing overheated broken wiring ...I learned from racing years ago that just by adding a vented hood and directing the Rad heat up and over the hood reduced our under hood water temp by 40 degrees..I'll be venting all my RX8's from now on..

unfortunately after hours of searching i can not find any of the schematics you showed here as to the pcm plugs and wire colors, i have P0661

Thanks for the vid but what if you have the P2259 code only?
This video explains the 2259 all the way thru to the ECM including wire color and pin # The solenoid in question will be the top one on the plenum.
