I had wondered how funny cars caught up and even exceeded top fuel max speed, and the summary is that even though funny cars are 200 lbs heavier, they are allowed to have a higher top RPM by 200 rpm and they have gotten more aerodynamic so they can have a higher top speed.

Funny cars are still 2 tenths slower

Back in the day there was a major distinction between Top Fuel (“rail jobs”) and Funny cars. No longer. That’s too bad.

Here I am two years later and coming to the same conclusion....I am working on two of them with the same issues..and they get it from overheating under the hood they all run way to hot.. drive one somewhere get out..lift the Hood and stand in front of the engine ...it's the same as the turbo cars I'm always repairing overheated broken wiring ...I learned from racing years ago that just by adding a vented hood and directing the Rad heat up and over the hood reduced our under hood water temp by 40 degrees..I'll be venting all my RX8's from now on..
