This is 06/05/22 and I just got done with this job with a couple of buddies and I’ll tell you this was an amazing help the 2005 rx8 I bought was takin care of but of course for being this old it has its quirks but I’ll tell you my ssv valve was good just needed cleaning it such a huge help the rx8 dsnt have its hiccups anymore and should improve on my gas mileage as well cus it did about 8miles per gallon thank you for this video!
good video nice and slow to actually explain what's going on, seen another ssv video and it was like fast forwarded so didn't help, next video maybe removing the upper intake manifold to get to the solinoids. ...
+Jan pva The SSV as shown in the video is simply a valve that opens up at high RPM to allow more air to flow into the combustion chamber. When they go back or get stuck you may experience a lack of power at higher RPM or a check engine light. Thanks for your input!
Will that also cause a knocking noise when idling? Also white smoke out of the exhaust? And the coolant seem low, but when I remove the cap it, shoots up? Any ideas man, you seem pretty knowledgeable
Just followed your vids to remove/clean SSV and then deflooded the engine on my 2010 GT. I noticed where the thermostat housing is that the Series II RX8's dont have OMP lines so that saved me a little time. This helped me alot thx for posting these vids!!! I'd like to request a vid on steam cleaning the Renesis engine if you could.
Working on a Mazda3 now and just starting to put out videos on it now after 3 years. When I'm done I'll be giving it away, and once I have room in the driveway... 🤔😁

Awesome video buddy, could you add a note about the ECM cover on UK models having the sheer bolts holding it in place. I got that far yesterday and had to stop so I could rill the pita bolts out.

Thanks for commenting! 2059 is an air pump code which is luckily one of the more simple systems to work with. Let me know if anything comes up. I have some more videos being made right now, so stay tuned!

I'm good for that code, it flagged 0037- downstream 02, replaced it, I'm good again... but while trying to drive up to the mileage for everthing to (show ready) for state inspection, it flagged 2059 @ 125 mi.. ( which was Sunday night and we couldn't get it to our guy before it threw the 2059 code.) my plan WAS to get it up there this morning, but as luck would have it, my girlfriend had to work this morning, so it flagged again @ 110 mi. It's just driving me nuts man :) Bare in mind I don't have car here, but she'll reset it before she leaves work, I'll make sure it wasn't some OTHER code this afternoon. hey thanks for helping- I appreciate it

That changes the problem for me, any idea what 2096 is? originaly it was 2259. the RX8 club thread showed several threads for 2259- all said to replace EGR Vacuum Solenoid Switch Valve KL01-18-741 For RX-8... and it flagged 0037- downstream 02- I replaced the 3 solenoids, and the 02, after the test drive, it wouldn't pass inspection @ 60 miles, and then flagged 2059 @ 66 miles... "GRRRRRR" reset comp and it flagged @ 118 mi. My girl says it flagged PS2096 and she reset it I'm headed up to see if she'll pass @ 85 miles this morning as you can see, I may be trusting the wrong info to begin with, although I hadn't found your videos yet when I began this quest. Is there a "Run " I should be doing to line it up for all the cool little gadgets to get back in synch? {I feel like I'm chasing a Gremlin. lol} In other words, 55 mph for 25 .mi... then 30mph for 25mi.. ? I saw a run up chart for 2500 rpm for 15 secs,then 4500 for 15 secs...idle for 60 secs.. ???
Great job explaining everything! My son just bought an 07 rx8. We are getting P0302 misfire code. Car seems to lack engine power. Did plugs and wires. Swapped coil packs. No difference. Did slow motion video on pulse test on rotors . Both rotors seemed to have consistent pulse {3 pulse each rotor} Have been looking at the injectors. Didn't really see anything. Now going to look at the ssv? Any direction to were I might look to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated . Thank you. Update April/2022 Finally solved the above problem. Car had flooded a few times in the past. We replace a bunch of stuff, plugs, coils, wires and looked quite a few things over. The answer? Catalytic converter was plugged solid due to several fuel flooding. We removed the cat and it at first the honey comb looked good. But beyond that 2" it had failed. We punched it out, reinstalled the pipe, bought 2 anti fowl spark plug adapters to fool the 02 sensor. Working great.

Hi Ray. There seems to be issues with the electronic power steering. Intermittent heavy steering. If replacing the ECU ( electronic steering unit) I believe it must be set to the neutral position. I also heard the cars computer must be reset by Mazda Machanics. Can you clarify this please or better still do a video on this cheers keep up the good work👍

Hi Ray great video man my 05 rx8 is losing power at 7k rpm and I think is the SSV I 'm not sure but it sounds like that's it I live in Manassas VA and I'm trying to get this done before the end of the year how much you charge to replace it if I supply the part ?????? Friend maybe you can help me, I have the P2070 code on my Mazda RX8 and I change the 3 selenoids of the admission but I don't improve, I have the check engine light on and stopping when the car is on and it's shaking.
Correct me if I'm wrong. But nothing was mentioned about the gasket that goes on the SSV and thermostat housing. Those HAVE to be replaced. And they cant be gotten locally unless you have a rotary shop in your area. Thought I would get the car together same day. Turned into a week because I had to order gaskets. Why put an old thermostat back into a car that already has a ton of issues? Lol. Just replace it, this job isn't particularly easy. Do it right. Do it once.
Great videos. I'm having an issuse with my 05 RX8 throwing a code for tbr secondary air injection. Replaced pump, 3 egr solenoids, relay and this code is still popping up. I can't get this thing through remissions. Any ideas? I have read about checking to make sure all hoses are clean which we haven't checked all of them just the ones that were unhooked for the air pump. The car drives great and has no issues. I have read this is just an emissions issuse, but being in the city it is a big problem for me. My tags are now expired and we are out of ideas. Any advice is much appreciated!
Ok, exactly what DTC is it throwing? Sounds like you have lots of new parts. Are they new or used parts? Sounds like you've replaced everything but the actuator... so its sounds like you either need an actuator of have a bad part of have an electrical control problem. Make sure your solenoids are in the correct order (blue on top, white in middle, and black on bottom) I'd recommend manually checking the system- physically jump battery power and ground to the pump itself and make sure it comes on. Then, with the engine running, manually jump power and ground to the AIR solenoid (5 volts)and ensure that you have vacuum being supplied to the actuator. Then disconnect the hose from the actuator and make sure air is being pumped through the solenoid. Hope this helps!
hi Ray. whats the reason the ssv should be remove and clean? my car is making a knocking noise like a metal to metal noise when the engine is low idle-ling. i havent found an answer no where online. some say its the engine, some say is the manifold, some the ssv. some people say to add engine cleaner. whats your opinion? gas is premium. tune up was recently done. thanks.
Hey guys I was wondering my rx8 starts and runs but when it gets warm and up to operating temp rpms drop and car dies unless yo hold a little on the gas peddle to keep it alive. Helpppp
matthew st john sounds like bad apex seals because they get hot and you lose some compression due to heat. Maybe it’s something else but that’s what I read online

Is there any reason why the 2 wires FROM the SSV connector would be stripped and twisted together and then plugged into the female end that it is supposed to be connected to?
+008Zaw The updated part is the only "upgrade". To increase the bore on the valve would change nothing as the channel on either side of the intake manifold would not be enlarged. Toe change the valve or flow in any way would most definitely cause idle problems as well. The price, depending on where you are getting it from and shipping and markup and various other things should be somewhere between $200-300 over the counter.

I misread! P2259 is an air pump code. Honestly, I'm not sure there is a P2059. Can you recheck thst code for me? P2070 is the usual SSV code.

Even the repair Manuel don’t said to remove the PCB. I know maybe to be more easy to work around but you don’t need to remove the PCB plugs.

i get an engine rebuild would not start getting current pluse and gas good but it just start fa 2 minute an cut right off an hard to start back

I have a 04 mazda rx8 and the radiator overflows after radiator replaced.
Anyone else having trouble actually getting to come out, mine is in there tight and seems really sealed in. Not able to pull it by hand.
