Oh jeese, what a live saver this video is. And only one day old. Thankyou thankyou thankyou. I’ve watched so much rubbish on this issue, some ramble on others are incomplete and leave you wanting more. I have the 661 code on my 04 which has done only 40k. I don’t trust mechanics round here and having an engineering background I want to do this. Firstly I noticed the ssv valve is dead. It’s not not moving but not seized. Secondly there’s no vacuum coming up the pipe to the actuator. On inspection there’s a large blockage in the tube. I can’t get it out, so the manifold has to come off. Thanks for showing this procedure so well and the care with the gaskets.
Awww man, Thanks for the comment! Im glad it helped! It's pretty easy to do. Don't forget to be careful removing the bolts... Don't lose them! lol. Thanks again, appreciate it!
Well, I managed to replace the solenoid your way. Now all is good. Passed emissions test. The coil was open circuit intermittently. The new one was about 40 ohms. It wasn’t easy getting the back bolts out from the manifold Lol. One more important advice regarding those nuts you mentioned. There is also a bushing or collar round the bolts, which nearly fell into in to the tube. Also, a gasket fell off from that joint. Otherwise all good.
Thats great news! I failed to mention that I had to use a few extensions on my 10mm socket. I'm stoked you passed emissions, brother! We don't have emissions anymore here in Ontario, Canada. So thats a plus!@@samcohen1625
I am getting the P0661 code and i have the 5 bolts mentoioned in the original video, but i dont see the 2 other bolts. I plan to remove the upper air only, did you also have to remove or loosen the intake valve. i was wondering what the electrical cap was, but n ow i know its the alternator, it is real tight in the bolted down wires. Any advice? or caution@@samcohen1625
I been having my Rx8 park on my garage for 5 years . Because it dies on me while driving .. and the codes engine diagnostics talks bout this solenoid valves 😭

Sounds like you have a air leak. Also, your cat is probably clogged. Secondary air is that silly pump that turns on on cold start ups. Id remove your cat and clean it out. gut it. That's probably your main issue. Then check vac line coming off your throttle body. If it's still connected. You running a cold air intake or stock airbox?
@@StefanMailey yeah that's different than mine. Btw I made a mistake. Mine is the APV motor that controls the intake runner. Stuck closed. Do you know if I can reach it with the motor in the car? I'm waiting to break the motor in since it's been rebuilt so I can rev it over 6k since that's when that apv is activated. I'm hoping it will unstick and code will go away. If not, I will be forced to replace it but I really hope I can reach it with the motor in the car
@@StefanMailey maybe. That's going to be messed up. Just had the motor put in. Really hope it unsticks after I rev it high otherwise I can't pass emissions

For the gaskets are there two throttle body gaskets and an intake manifold gasket?
There are < I believe.. 6 or 7 gaskets. You mean the o-ring gaskets?

What code were you getting? Im getting p2004. I believe vdi stuck closed. Related to yours?
P0410 was one of the main ones. Secondary Air Injection!
P2259 also.
