This is so true. This happened to me at my religious meeting. I keep to myself She's a troublemaker, drama. I don't interact. I walk away. She came running after me, harassing. I turned around and lit into her. The next thing I know the Elders wanted to have a meeting with me. I said no. One of the Elders saw what she had done, plus she had a history of bad behavior. He put a stop to it. It's so ridiculous how these types of people get support.
The reality is most people in general are sheep and lack discernment. They want to fit in and go where the drama and gossip is. If you are the type person doesn't try to fit in, you will be look as weird or crazy.
I can see why a loud, dramatic person is seen more trustworthy because mostly they put themselves out there. There is a level of uncertainty when dealing with a quiet person.
Everything this dude says is spot on. People don't like it when I just sit and observe everything around me. You can find out a lot about others by just sitting there and observing your surroundings.

as a quiet person I grew u thinking something was wrong with me, nd wished I was as extroverted and outspoken as everyone else.. but now being 26 I've accepted that this is who I am, and Im not changing myself to make anyone feel comfortable.
I am introverted around most people but with the few, and I mean few individuals I trust I am quite chatty, funny, and silly. I don't speak much in group settings b/c most people are superficial and gossipy. Gossip bothers me deeply so until I trust you I will remain in observer mode. Also, most overtalkers do not share the space for others to shine their light, it is very unbecoming and annoying. I pray more people learn the art of active listening.
That’s their problem if you’re just being yourself. People will label you no matter what you do so if they’re gonna do it anyway it may as well be when you’re just being your genuine self.
I get the same thing at work. Don't talk to him. He's miserable, he's this, he's that, etc. I have told people. I am here to work. Not socialize. That is what the company is paying me for. I'm not here to make friends or enemies. I just want to do my job and go home to my family. If you have a problem with that. That's on you.
Some places if you don't openly pick a side, then you become the enemy to both sides and they try to do things to make your life miserable. What can someone do in a situation like that?
As a black man myself. People try their hardest to put me in a specific box but they can't because they don't know me. It bothers them for some reason. I am more than willing to let people know who I am. In some ways I'm not hard to approach. I don't make things difficult for everyone. It's funny how when I'm minding my own business it's some how I'm the most challenging person to be friends with when that's not necessarily the case. Society is weird like that. Minding your own business is labeled in the most weirdest ways. That person is: - Angry - Depressed - Nervous - Loner - Loser Where are these coming from? Insecurities of other people that's who. You being in your own lane bothers them. If you get that impression from them... STAY AWAY. They will not be your friend even if it seems like they want to be. Their intent isn't genuine and I know from experience. Some people are afraid they are figured out mostly by observant people. The quietest person is a threat to them. Whatever facade they are pulling is something they don't want to be exposed. They go from friend groups, work, school, and other regular gatherings.
One thing that extroverts should stop doing is over talking while introverts are talking. Shut up and let us cook and process these gems of information.
Even if you don’t share much, people will make up things and spread rumors regardless An there’s always that one person in the group that has to label you “shy or quiet”.
I know it’s hard to do, but I personally do my best to not entertain lies. Depending on what they’re lying about of course. All of that nonsense is just to get a reaction out of you.

I love being a quiet person. I’ve always been a quiet person. I’m loud around friends, but my natural disposition is to be quiet. Most of the time I enjoy being in my own head and I’m comfortable with myself whether I’m alone or with others. My parents always tried to make me be more extroverted. They really thought there was something wrong with me because I wasn’t an extrovert, had to do all this therapy and turns out I was just an introvert that’s just who I am and I’m not going to change it for anyone

I worked for a company with an Italian Portuguese background. They love to talk. I was so quiet and it pissed off my supervisor to the point that he would ream me out. This continued at least once a week for 2.5 years. He made it his mission to get me fired for the next 2.5 years I was there, but I was careful, and methodical because that’s what happens when you’re quiet. He started reaming me out in front of his manager for the smallest things and he had to apologize to me at one point. Once he gave up, I spent another 2 months there and quit on my own terms for a better job that I had lined up. Lesson is, just stick it out no matter how bad it gets and see how far some people are willing to go, they start making themselves look pretty bad after a while.
What's annoying is when you're at the gym, some random person you've never met will start talking to you like somehow you're their best friend and they'll talk your ear off. And then the next time you see them you say hi and they act like they don't know you or just say hi back and then walk off like you're bothering them. Extroverts are really weird. At least introverts in my experience have better manners and don't do random, strange garbage.
A lot of people don’t actually care to have a conversation or listen to people. They just do it to do it because they were told that’s what they should do. That’s why they don’t mind talking about nothing.

I think that being reserved allowed me to figure out who's trustworthy and who's not. People who try to make you feel like a weirdo for your personality from what I experienced do it as a mind game to force you to put your business out there for their approval. I had people scared of me simply because I don't say everything that's on my mind and I don't share personal stuff, I had someone tell me that they couldn't figure me out and that it troubled them. And some act shocked that you have friends, question your intentions even when you're straight forward, I think it's to chip at your self-esteem.

What made me pressure myself to talk more wasn't the society, it was my family, they kept trying to convince me to talk more and make me feel shame because of my quietness untill I started researching and understood that I'm normal and there is nothing wrong about me, but overall I don't care about what ppl say or think about me
I found some people that didn’t know me at all, they needed to know my personal business. Then when they knew some of it they would change their demeanour to suit themselves or a planned agenda to see what they could get away with. Great topic, because this scenario is being played everywhere.

It's crazy how much being quiet and keeping to yourself can annoy others. You have to deal with constant sarcastic comments and being made to feel like you're being rude/weird just for not having much to say, or not wanting to mention every little thing you do and think all the time.

I'm a very quiet person. I was brought up in an environment where kids should be seen and not heard, so we were rarely allowed to voice ourselves or face the consequences for being outspoken. My circle of people I associate with is very small. Less than one hand I can count. I grew up with 4 sisters and one brother and yet, I would walk the streets alone. Now, being alone, no longer bothers me. I have accepted my way of life. I bother no one and if my being quiet seems to trigger people. Don't know what to tell you. I'm hard-working, loyal and I'll give the shirt of my back to help someone. I just no longer have trust in people and the easiest thing for me to do is just to keep people at a distance.
Another co-worker and a friend of mine. A nurse asked me why she kept ignoring her, and I told her that she wears hearing aids and is hard of hearing. That's 2 different ladies with a hearing problem working the same job 😂
Lost my best friend of 3 years today. She was my best friend but I wasn’t hers. She said that I was too quiet and started to ignore me everyday. Mainly because her best friends talk to her. I am so introverted that I can’t even start conversations with my own friends. Every friend that I’ve ever made has left me because I don’t stay in touch. I want to talk to them and stay in touch, but my social anxiety takes over and I never speak to them again. The friends who do stick around just talk to me when they want something. I’m labeled the smart kid because everyone is talking with their friends and I just sit there and quietly do my work. I literally have nobody. I have one friend but he only talks to me when he wants to replace his recent relationship. I hate being so quiet. I want to talk with people and hang out and have great friends. I just feel like none of that is possible because of my terrible anxiety. It’s worse when you’re a junior in high school too. A year from now, I’ll be planning to leave the people I’ve known for 13+ years and probably not be able to stay in touch with many of them because of my anxiety.
This is something I really need to remember because talking too much has led me to waste my time and eventually people tell on you when you say too much. I genuinely need to stay silent.
"Can’t figure you out"....I have been told this exact thing by a female supervisor in a female dominated office. It's no surprise I didn't last long in that environment.

I'm a quiet person I just not a talkative person. I always get judged because I'm quiet. I don't care, you do you and mind your own business.
I think that being reserved allowed me to figure out who's trustworthy and who's not. People who try to make you feel like a weirdo for your personality from what I experienced do it as a mind game to force you to put your business out there for their approval. I had people scared of me simply because I don't say everything that's on my mind and I don't share personal stuff, I had someone tell me that they couldn't figure me out and that it troubled them. And some act shocked that you have friends, question your intentions even when you're straight forward, I think it's to chip at your self-esteem.
That’s their problem not yours… I never understood why some people have a need to know.

What made me pressure myself to talk more wasn't the society, it was my family, they kept trying to convince me to talk more and make me feel shame because of my quietness untill I started researching and understood that I'm normal and there is nothing wrong about me, but overall I don't care about what ppl say or think about me

It's crazy how much being quiet and keeping to yourself can annoy others. You have to deal with constant sarcastic comments and being made to feel like you're being rude/weird just for not having much to say, or not wanting to mention every little thing you do and think all the time.
It annoys them because they have a conflict within themselves. I never understood how someone’s silence can bother some people so much. They’re not bothering you lol.!

I'm a very quiet person. I was brought up in an environment where kids should be seen and not heard, so we were rarely allowed to voice ourselves or face the consequences for being outspoken. My circle of people I associate with is very small. Less than one hand I can count. I grew up with 4 sisters and one brother and yet, I would walk the streets alone. Now, being alone, no longer bothers me. I have accepted my way of life. I bother no one and if my being quiet seems to trigger people. Don't know what to tell you. I'm hard-working, loyal and I'll give the shirt of my back to help someone. I just no longer have trust in people and the easiest thing for me to do is just to keep people at a distance.

Another co-worker and a friend of mine. A nurse asked me why she kept ignoring her, and I told her that she wears hearing aids and is hard of hearing. That's 2 different ladies with a hearing problem working the same job 😂
Lost my best friend of 3 years today. She was my best friend but I wasn’t hers. She said that I was too quiet and started to ignore me everyday. Mainly because her best friends talk to her. I am so introverted that I can’t even start conversations with my own friends. Every friend that I’ve ever made has left me because I don’t stay in touch. I want to talk to them and stay in touch, but my social anxiety takes over and I never speak to them again. The friends who do stick around just talk to me when they want something. I’m labeled the smart kid because everyone is talking with their friends and I just sit there and quietly do my work.
I literally have nobody. I have one friend but he only talks to me when he wants to replace his recent relationship. I hate being so quiet. I want to talk with people and hang out and have great friends. I just feel like none of that is possible because of my terrible anxiety. It’s worse when you’re a junior in high school too. A year from now, I’ll be planning to leave the people I’ve known for 13+ years and probably not be able to stay in touch with many of them because of my anxiety.
