I guess Javed Akhtar is allowed to get away with bullshit because he is Javed Akhtar. No Hindutva ideologue, RSS or even the fringe has ever said that Muslims are outsiders. Almost all of them argue that Indian Muslims are indigenous to India who were converted forcefully, hence the label "ghar wapasi". It is the Muslims who have an identity problem - some of them actually believe they might be descendants of Arabs! Very few Muslims actually converted because of the caste system. It might have happened in the case of Christianity or Buddhism but not Islam. Islam spread because of the sword, not because of its own Islamic ideas or caste system in Hinduism. There is no evidence to support Akhtar's outrageous claims. So many historians in the audience and not one corrected him.

Well we survived 5000 years of a multicultural society with flourishing diversity of language, beliefs, customs, arts, science, theism and atheism without being secular. Unless secularism means separation of religion from education and politics and only means unlimited freedom for all religions to do whatever they want, it's not a matter of survival but a matter of future anarchy.

If he's a real atheist despite maintaining the name jabed then he would have been killed by now by the fatwa of any Islamic mulla as per quranic cult. Jabed aktar married two women as per islamic law within India without divorcing anyone of them. Does all of this still make you think he's an atheist???

Brilliant anchoring by Mir. Good discussion.
This world would become a better place if we were all agnostics.
The first world countries are increasingly giving women recognition and more and more people are getting away from church.
The problem with india is Hindus believe in nonsensical rituals, astrology etc.
Muslims are also devout unwilling to question.
Religion is not good for human development. Spiritualism maybe yes.
Buddhism doesn’t say my religion is superior to yours.

I like speeches of Javed. I also believe if God exists he/ she/ it does not reveal to anyone, does not give any brownie points for good behaviour nor subtract any for bad one, nor commands Jihad, nor orders conquests of land & women of unbelievers, nor condones slavery/ sex slavery, nor promises 72 virgins in after life
Unfortunately in life one has to select lesser of 2 or more evils. I do agree any absolutism is bad. But RSS is not as bad as Islamist is bad. I like what Javed does & I wish everyone was like him.
Democracy is a reasonable compromise. In any democracy it is perfectly rational position not wanting to live under Islamic precepts & Sharia law which are against human & women rights & rights of minorities ie homosexuals & women. It is not phobia & can not be classified as a some kind of mental illness & labelled as such. People who want to take part in a civilised discussion should not classify opinion of their opponent as phobia. They should take it with reason, fact & logic.
People including Muslims are afraid of Jihad or misogyny. Would you call it Islamophobia because it is against Muhammad’s Sunna the Gold standard practice of Islam for any Muslim.

I can be religious without attending Holi public gatherings and indulging in environmental pollution by burning dry leaves & branches in enclosed city dwellings, where O2 is so precious, without going to temples.and listening to mumblings in strange vedic languages, without understanding a single word, removing footwear for the sake of it, when your bare foot may be more unhygienic than the PVC or leather footwear you are wearing.

    Dear Global Friends,
    Mind...thoughts
    Eyes... sights
    Ears... hearing
    Mouth.. tastes
    Nose... smell
    Body... feelings
These six senses inwhich human beings possess is the best overall vehicle to seek for the original truth of their original pureself. Morality is the best remedy to purify these six senses without which no matter how intelligent one is wearing one's crown of the highest intellect of the mundane world one will not be able to comprehend the spiritual knowledge of the universe and beyond, and because of one's limited knowledge one is being blocked by one's egoism, haughtiness or any slightest iota of tangible and intangible thoughts of this mundane world. All these impurities must be fully purified.
Later all to be detached from the mundane world of the six desires and seductions.
Human beings have better opportunity than the divinities we pray as a respect but they don't have the six senses to cultivate to reach their realm of non rebirth. They need human beings co-operation in working together to achieve their destination.
Human minds are like monkey minds jumping about with unstable thoughts, hard to calm down. That's why it needs calmness and stillness meditation as what Indian called yoga meditation. The rest are physical exercises in various forms as not to spoil our health with sicknesses. If not we will be unable to achieve our mind, body and soul in unison to gain enlightenment. That's why health plays an important role.
Thank you for the sharing and with love to all beings.

Javed Akhtar has taken too much of the time, almost the whole of it, reducing other panelists to being mere audience to his seemingly never-ending oration. This is terribly unfair, a one-sided affair that has reduced a panel discussion to a monlogue, however stimulating in intellectual content it may have been. Javed Akhtar has even of the cuff taken undue precedence in answering questions from the audience. It seems he has had a mistaken notion of the Meet and has taken it to be 'Javed Akhtar Literary Meet'. Moderation by Mir ought to have taken care of this unseemly anomaly. The audience has been thus deprived of a possible second or even third round of rollicking rolling discussion that would have added flavour to the Meet. In actual effect such a possibility has been waylaid by a single speaker of much knowledge that despite it has made a mockery of a Meet. Such self-centring of group discussion literally should not be allowed at a literary meet.

Really javed aktar? Then why not all the Islamic country around the world become secular when there are muslims in majority??? India is secular because muslims are not in majority. We are all aware the doctrine of al taqiya in quran and also know your pseudo nature and hypocrisy very well jabed aktar.

Dear Shazia we have a woman leader here and hope you know the consequences. Also you have a woman leader in Bangladesh and you yourself admitting about 30 bloggers death and killing in bakery at Dhaka. So your speech was totally contradictory. Actually there is a difference about woman leader and woman politicians. Be very very specific about that.

take no offence ..but this explanation we hear every time whenever the issue of jihad comes.Problem is we are not misusing the term jihad ...and people start explaining to non Muslims .Why not a single Muslim cleric declare or issue so called "fatwa" that using Jihad for murder or bombing or taking up arms is not allowed in quran and the muslim perosonel law board which regulates every aspect of how one should live remain silent and keep explaining to non muslims.
about hindu fundamentalism ....the major opposition that it faces comes from within the own community.Otherwise with the numbers they have got i guess no one can stop them
Yes no society or community is perfect and everyone has flaws but the changes comes from within .
It doesn't matter how much you explain meaning of jihad to non muslim ..we are not using it ..so explain it to them who are misusing them
