Yes. Very important to screw around with items to avoid boredom while traveling through space.
    Looks good.

This brings me back to the good old days of Half Life 2, where the fate of the world was put on hold, so I could build the most magnificent structures no one ever saw, out of pallets and milk crates! 🖖😀

The more I see about this game the more excited I get.
You may think that seeing someone move a vase is making this guy call it exciting. “I guess he would go outside and touch grass” you may be thinking.
True it’s not exciting in and of itself but that fact that it’s a little thing that makes the game feel not as boring and drab is. The ability to be able to interact with your ship like this could bring other things like switching power cells/batteries, repairs, or some other ideas could come from Thai that make the world feel a little more immersive and less empty.
I was also shared by the developer more information into how this game will work and the mechanics of gameplay, gameplay loop, objective, inspiration for the game and more. It’s really cool to know where this game is heading and I hope to get my hands on it soon.

I think you may be going down the wrong road here. In Skyrim, there was a similar system, where the cursor acts like a grasping point and the items swivel as if on a string and a hook. The result: moving things around felt as if you were having to grab things only by pinching your elbows together. Star Citizen is taken a more workable approach I think and it seems to me based on this conclusion: if you want to simulate picking up and manipulating things - you MUST consider the nature of the tool we use to do so. That is, the HAND. How a hand works, which way it moves, and what it does cannot be left out. It would be far better to do something like select "take" and then have an animated hand grasp the object in a realistic way. Then let you rotate and move it in ways a hand does. Once in place, release. Otherwise, this will remain a comical and frustrating exercise not unlike the carnival grabber machines where you try to pick up a stuffed toy from a box.

Mmm, no. I'd say make it more like the Amnesia or Penumbra games by Frictional Games.

I definitely agree in terms of realism that visually having items in your actual hand is far better, and in some cases that will be true (tools, weapons, etc), but when it comes to manipulating physics objects we want to try and approach something akin to VR levels of interaction for non-VR players. I enjoyed eating burgers in Star Citizen, but what if I want to build a burger fort? :D
Eventually I'm sure we'll achieve a hybrid system where you can place an object via a ghosted indicator in 3D space, but for now this will do for a v1.0 of the system :)

@@StarshipSimulator Thanks, love what you're doing! I suppose my main point wasn't so much about the realism of a hand per se, but that if you simulate the way we manipulate objects (the rotation and movement range of the hand) it will make manipulating objects into an orientation more controlled and intuitive. For example, in this video when you pick up the object it is swiveling with physics as if on a hook and string. Instead, it would be better to have it float in the air once picked up without moving, then let us hold down buttons to rotate the object in a ver precise orientation, setting it down when we are ready, in a very precise way. This is how precise we are with our hands. Objects never 'dangle' around.

Anyone who has ever played a Bethesda games knows how nice it would be to be able to place items without a lot of trial and error 🙂
