    Hello! 👋
    Mao here,
It is time for another Environment tutorial! This time we are touching landscapes and the water system to create an Island!

You can find my Gaming channel on: www.youtube.com/@maomaopvp & www.twitch.tv/maomaopvp
    Edit:
Since the release of this video we got some frequent questions about the same topics so I will put them here with the solution:
    Q: I don't see the Landmass Blueprint
A: Make sure you enable Landmass plugin, restart the editor AND Enable Edit Layers before creating your Landscape
    Q: I don't see my water:
A: If it is the first time you put it, it will take some time to load. In the video I loaded it into memory before so you don't have to wait, but typically you will wait a few minutes. If you still can't see it make sure you put the Water on the right layer. Above the base can work.

dont know if someone already mentioned it; around 1:18:10 when you're painting foliage on the water plane; its usually way easier to just unclick the "static meshes" button in the foliage editor "filters" section. this way youre only painting on bsp and landscape meshes. definitely a more effective way than moving your camera beneath the surface every time. anyways, nice tutorial, good pacing. keep em coming!

has nobody noticed the water in the rivers are flowing backwards? this is because he is placing the starting point at the ocean or lake instead of it's actual starting point. this is very noticeable at 31:25 when he joins the 2 rivers together the waterfall is flowing upwards.

I'm still going through this tutorial, but so far it's excellent content. I had some issues with the ocean visibility that I was able to resolve with the following:
While in selection mode, click on WarmBodyOcean
    > Under terrain, make sure Affects Landscape is disabled. This will stop the water from terraforming when you move the divot it creates.
    > If your ocean only covers a small portion of your scene and the yellow bounding box is visible, you can extend that by going into Water > Ocean extents and adjusting the values to fit your map.

Really small one, when the adding the WaterBodyRiver should be affecting landscape, it is not affecting landscape. I think this might be because things like sculpt and affects landscape are only impacting the base layer and not not the landmass, am I doing something wrong when I set this up? without the affects landscape working it just looks like my river is hovering and defying all known laws.

    Hi
If anyone has similar river issues whereby the landscape doesn't form around river and the river floats like a column in mid-air it might be worth checking the following steps
    1) Check the splines of the ocean to make sure they form around the landscape, I hadn't moved mine and it meant when I moved the water layer to the top the whole thing went kaput. For some reason I must have missed this part of the tutorial.
    2) Move the ocean layer to 0 height.
    3) then when I moved the water layer up top I got the following.
    4) Make sure affect landscape ticked in details box under Water Heightmap settings
I am sure other more experienced people could probs give better explanations but hopefully this helps at least one person.

It's not common to see a terrain tutorial :)) In minute 18, if you first add a Water layer in Terrain Mode and then, add the water body in select mode, your terrain doesn't get destroyed. When I added the water body at first, the water layer wasn't automatically being created and the water body brush was in the landmass layer content. Just a question, how do you get shoreline caustic effect?

Hello: I follow your tutorial exactly, but at minute 3:00 you Restart and come back to the flat landscape that you had just created. However, when I click on Restart I come back to the initial 3rd person view that is created at the beginning of the session, not the flat landscape that you created. I think you missed something. Please explain.

At 27:00, I try swapping the layer on top, specifically putting the water layer above the landmass so it takes precedent, but it ends up making my whole landmass creation disappear. Any tips?

  • @wilismatrix9847

you need to add virtual textures to the landscapp and the meegascan assets materials to have a nice realistic blinding

Extremely useful demo but we really need the other stuff to complete this, such as setting up & using the landscape spatial partitioning system, how to correctly import world machine layer data for creating auto landscape materials on a large scale.
