Now here is a man that has done miles of caulking.
I have had a sub leave the jobsite because he did not have the "right" width joint tool, and he laughed at my when I said just use a piece of backer rod.

That sub wasn’t a pro you can tool joints up to 4 inches depending on the material. If you dont have a big enough tool make one buy rounding a flat puddy knife to your desired size.

First of all that is NOT backer rod . It is flat and does not give the proper joint profile. This is VERY sub par work. You obviously no nothing about sealants

I’ve done miles of way more difficult caulking than this working for real legit caulking companies and am blown away by how many clueless caulking videos there are. At least this one the guys not wet tooling but I have NEVER in all the years I caulked seen someone use foam or whatever that is Guy doesn’t know how to knife?? That’s a really really easy type of joint to knife if have any skills at all. Guys caulking all have battery powered guns and use a one part tube or sausage?? When I caulked anything on any union caulking job We almost Always mixed cans with a low speed drill and activator color packs etc.We used that sausage or tubes a couple of times when we ran out of the cans but we had to be sneaky about it and hide it from possible inspectors since it’s unacceptable ( or was) on commercial industrial whatever Now everyone is using it wherever and that shit is just no where near as good as the mixed cans. Everyone making videos about caulking and no one would ever keep the job back in my day doing flim flam wet tooled finger fuck tooling foam swipe tooling Damn the industry has taken a really hard fall NO STANDARDS USA

@@toecutter1015 I have been a professional caulker for over 45 years and the crap that TH-camrs post about caulking really piss me off. Because as professionals we are basically priced out of the housing market homeowners see this kind of shit and think it’s good. I actually worked for a group of architects and attorneys when I was young to sue incompetent contractors like this. But of course our clients were rich. It really angers me that homeowners have to replace there sealant in 5 -10 years because of the morons installing their sealant.( I know this doesn’t really pertain to homeowners nut it goes to the general stupidity of TH-cam caulking videos)

I wouldn’t caulk that until the roof is on and they remove those braces. Ive seen caulking fail for that very reason there was to much movement on the panels before the caulking was cured. And it was that not the aplicator because the joints fail in the middle they did not lose adhesion to the panels.

@@JBCtry by the book? And you use soap? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Every major manufacturer says not to use liquids to tool with if you look at their tech manuals. ( literally “the book”) Here is what DOW ( one of the largest sealant manufacturers in the world ) says: “NOTE: Do not use liquid tooling aids such as water, soap or alcohols. These materials will interfere with cure, adhesion and create aesthetic issues.”
Page 75 of Dow Construction Sealants Technical Manual.
      This is literally”by the book”
The only MAJOR manufacturer that I have ever seen that allows tooling liquid of any kind is Sika and they only allow their proprietary tooling aid not soap. And I don’t think it is available in the US because no one needs it.
But you are absolutely right about the backer rod and primer. He is definitely not qualified to caulk anything.
It is pretty funny though that you say it should be done “by the book” then say you do something “ the book” literally says not to do.

They will be replacing the sealant in 5 years.. he bviouly does not understand how sealant functions. The backer rod has to be round to give the proper joint profile. If the manufacturer sees this he will void the warranty.
