prestons perk should be to stop giving you missions every 5 seconds

I've found a way to minimalize this problem to an extent,tell him you finished the quest,when he gets to the part ''something has come up'' you just run away and the quest finishes without triggering another one
i avoid him so he is not a trouble
it should be every 0.5 seconds
Funny thing is in my game he's completely stopped giving me quests, and unfortunately I've basically run out of ways to earn xp.

Companion Tip:
Codsworth has a Damage Buff and you can modify him to be any robot you want with the Automotron DLC
yes you can effectively turn him into a world destroying sentry bot with a British accent
which makes him the most powerful companion with a shit perk.
codsworth is missing in the commonwealth. the vip system doesn't list him and he isn't in sancturary
give him ironsides hat and you're good to go
I turned him into a sentry and curie into an assaultron
TBH Sentry bot is really good outdoors but overall I think Assaultron is the most powerful. It not only has powerful ranged option, but an Unholly Close Combat Potential and I find it hillariously terryfying hoing arround with Feminine looking deathmachine with Codsworth's voice :D

deacon Is a trip, he got in my powerarmor while I hacked a terminal, then he even turned the spot light on. once I got my PA back he had it all busted. One time he snagged a legendary weapon as I was grabbing it.

Happened to me with Nick before with my t60 and he got an arm destroyed
Mine is worse. I gave Nick my T-60 PA, after finishing the mission where we have to walk through Kellog's memory. After finishing it, i realized that the PA is set to owned. Which was sad ;-;

No. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. You don't have to romance any companion to get their perk. You just have to reach max affinity with them. Romance is an option with many of the companions though, and gives you the 'Lover's Embrace' buff if they're nearby when you sleep, whether you're traveling with them or not.

Curie is by far my favorite companion.She never complains about anything,see's the world with adorable wonder and says the cutest things when you're out adventuring with her.
I love the mod to have Dogmeat along with other companions. This was a cut feature but intended, similar to previous games, as other followers were comment on Dogmeat's presence
I like dogs, and the idea of traveling with him, but he´s an absolute menace! Trying to sneak with him around is worthless, he just seeks out trouble and brings it back to me!

Sloppy work, here's some missed notes
- Don't need to romance them for their perks
-Codsworth and Danse like when you mod armour or weapons
-Strong dislikes power armour not piper
-You can make human follows change outfits by making them equip new ones
-Preston can be lost as a follower via glitch if you fly to the blimp before talking the castle back
-Followers can have their carrying capacity increased by entering power armour
-Dances unobtainable pre equipped armour counts to his weight limit, so equipping over will cost you
-Having him as a companion post getting his perk causes brotherhood hostility until you part ways again.
- Strong gives you meat
- Siri gives you stim packs
- Decon randomly changes outfits
That's just off the top of my head from my play through ,oh and the synth detective like you being the silver shroud and is all round savage af

Yea it was a bit mean, production quality was right up their but it was sloppy missing details that are readily available. It seams to be a common theme, I still personal like their videos it's just you can't 100% trust them.

You don't need to romance any of them to get the perk, you just need to be at the top level affinity.

I got on the prydwen, went to the armory and stole every fucking thing I could, then fast traveled to sanctuary. The brotherhood was no longer my ally because I robbed them like it was no tomorrow, so when Danse saw me, he opened fire. Needless to say, I had to sweep up his ashes after that fight
Really? I broke into the armory, went into sneak mode, and stole everything and then just sold all of the useless stuff back to them and they didn't seem to notice or care.

MacReady's perk is the best by far. It gives a 95% head shot no matter the range. Even though the perk reads +20% chance at a head shot, that isn't how it works. All other body parts may be 5% or less but head shot is still 95%. I'm sure Bethesda is gonna nerf that in an upcoming patch because it's way OP.

I never romanced Preston, and got the perk from him when I put artillery on the castle. Glad to hear it's the same for the others. Romancing characters makes me uncomfortable lol.

Agreed - They will idolize your character and you just have to make them your best friends and they will give you the perk.
The only couple of reasons why Hancock is my fav companion is because 1:His backstory, 2:His smile (srsly it makes him look like a puppy in my opinion),3: He's 90% laid-back. I wanted to kill Danse when I swapped him and Hancock as companions when he called Senpai a 'freak'

Dogmeat: No ranged attacks, otherwise awesome.
Piper: Annoying. And that smile is just too creepy.

Hancock: One of the least annoying and most sympathetic companions.
Curie: Pleasant voice and adorably naive commentary.
Strong: I refuse to associate with idiots. I pelt him with molotovs every time I see him.
Cait: The most compatible.
Nick: Least annoying so far.
Preston: Haven't tested him. He got his panties in a twist because of the institute massacre, so maybe next playthrough.
X6-88: Boring.
Danse: Not feeling it. Next.
Codsworth: Haven't tested him yet.
MacCready: Only just hired him. Too early to tell.

When I met codsworth i picked my name to be “Wayne” I was so suprised for him to say my name.

You can still side with Bobbi and get Hancock as a companion. He even kind of respects that you sided with her, but you got to go kill her for him.
My top five companions:
1. MacCready (Pretty chill personality and awesome perk with high perception; that, and his backstory made me rather compassionate toward him.)
2. Piper (I pretty much liked her the moment I met her and if you're nice like myself when I played the game, she's pretty easy to romance.)
3. Dogmeat (Loves you unconditionally and doesn't negate the Lone Wanderer perk. 'Nuff said.)
4. Danse (Pretty OP if you give him maxed out X-01 armor and his T-60d Power Armor is pretty badass, too.)
5. Preston (As annoying as he is, his perk is pretty damn useful if you use high power weapons and is EASY to max out his affinity if you take him with you in the Minutemen radiant quests.)
Honorable Mentions: X6-88, Curie and Cait. That's it.
I'm trying to get all the companion perks. looks like I cant get danse, I was close, he left me at the sentinel site, then BOS started blind betrayal,i even saved him, no affinity. when I try to make him a companion again BOS is hostile towards me.
Strong and Curie are my favourites.

I have a Minuteman problem. I need some sort of support group. I've spent weeks playing and haven't even found Nick Valentine yet, because I'm constantly making sure my 20 settlements are thriving, growing, and trouble free... No need to romance Preston though. He thinks I'm a living God.

I love the companions in fallout 4, remember Serana from Skyrim Dawngaurd Dlc? How she was so different from the other companions? She was such a great character. And that's what I feel every companion (except dogmeat) is so great, each one has the depth and conversational interests like Serana, my favorite companion in any bethesda game. If the companion system wasn't in fallout 4 it wouldn't be the same.

Try having Danse with you as a companion, then switching him out for Nick and vice versa, the interaction between them is hilarious!
Valinte is my fav. Hes good for carrying junk has a lotta healt and can take out enemies on his own and also good for distection so that I dont get hit by a bullet

You can still get Hancock as a companion even if you don't side with him in "The Dig" but he'll ask you to do a personal mission first before he'll join you

If you have "Automatron", Ada shoots straight to the top of the list, or any robot companion you make. With a little work, Ada can be packing a regeneration device to keep your health up while you're in her proximity and dual gatling lasers to shred everything in sight! On top of that, she's entirely neutral, so you don't have to worry about saying or doing the wrong thing. Plus, that DLC will also let you customize Curie and Codsworth's robot bodies, making them into whatever you really want them to be offensively, defensively, or in regards to their utility, (like resistance or healing modules.) Once you start building robots, it's hard to look at the human companions again. They'll have more to say and react to, but the robot companions will f%^&iing stomp everything in their way if you build them out right.

I know this is old and a weird thing to add, but you can change Valentines outfit, if you take the outfit he has in his inventory and make him equip it (Though it is the same outfit for you) It actually restores one of his hands (Obv the robot skeleton one) to a normal synth hand.

Can you get all the companion perks in one play through?
Yes you have to make sure to get the faction related companions (Deacon, Danse, X6-88) and get their perks before any story discussions are made

I am playing Fallout 4 in 2023 and man...Preston is so suffocating. He judge me, he boss me around and he give me missions all the day. May map looks like a christmas three with a thousand of locations he want me to go.
My favorite is Curie, i thinknshe has the best bonuses and stuff

Note: if you go for the minutemen ending , then 3 out of the 4 faction specific companions will stay around, as that endings only requires destroying the institute, thid means youll only miss out on x8-66 eveb if you maxed out his affinity
Piper loves it when I get in power armor one time I found a power armor suit and right when I went back to red rocket where all my suits are I reached the max level of affinity
??? Is this still up to date? I've never seen Piper complain about power armor usage before.
Strong hates power armour not piper, also meacready doesn't have a son, Danes doesn't get X-01 power armour, you HAVE to kill all the raiders in the combat zone, strong's a dick, and you don't have to marry any of them to get they're perks. This guy is kind of an idiot, try not to listen to Half the crap he said.

Spoiler: Macreadys son has a disease so you must find the cure at Med-Tek during Macreadys 'long road ahead' mission.

Letting Danse live would have been a compromise, and would have been railroad behavior. If i was gonna be in the brotherhood, i had to go all they way
Just drink tons of alcohol when doing the mission, everything will go as planned, since your charisma will get so high
I love how Bethesda included variety of companions that can be available to defend the player during the adventures on the Commonwealth and also the DLCS like Nuka World, Automatron and Far Harbor.
I also love how each of every companion contacts each perk after maxing affinity with them. MacCready has the best companion perk out of all of the companion perks because his perk allows the player to get +20 headshots in VATS and accuracy.
The best companion in my IMO is Nick Valentine because he has the best writing out of all of the characters in Fallout 4, he is also a relatable companion and plays a huge role in the main story (also the Far Harbor DLC).
When i first saw nick light one up for the first time .. I thought he was a badass character. It suited him so well
You can still have Hancock as a companion even if you side with bobbi, but you have to kill her (you can also take her ~500 caps)

Personally, my favourite companions are Hancock, Nick, and Danse.
I used to always travel with only Hancock and Nick since I honestly liked how friendly they were when you get on their good side. Especially when you gain maximum affinity with them and just see them smile at you.
I've recently started to use Danse more often. At first, I wasn't so sure about using him since I thought he was just a dick and didn't know how to stop being a grouch. But after traveling with him and romancing him, my opinion has changed about him. I never knew that Danse could go from a tough, stoic soldier to an awkward sweetheart once your relationship develops strongly with him. I still cannot get over how he stuttered when I hit the romance option and see those eyebrows shoot up while my character just smirked at him.
I killed X6 during the Bunker Hill quest and it made going to the Institute really weird. Everyone kept saying that X6 was complimenting me for my combat abilities and kept talking about how he talked about me and I kept thinking ‘I put three railroad spikes in his head, I don’t think he can compliment me anymore’. It also made me laugh when the notification that ‘X6 is available as a companion’ came up.
On the bright side I saved the four synths that needed help!

I want that X1 power armor can I get it without being gay with Danse?
You have a high chance of finding its pieces whenever you would encounter power armor in the world (not those belonging to the brotherhood) but you need to be high level
My preferd companion is Curie. I'm really fond of her credulity and being always in a state of surprise.
I love MacCready, because as soon as I see these nice, red letters "E) Steal" I know I can't resist...

a bit misleading, you do not have to romance anyo anyone to get their perk. you can keep things professional and still reach max affinity

My railroad character is a lesbian that has Piper as her girlfriend
You can also acquire Piper as a companion after Reunions when you head back to Diamond City to talk to her with Nick. However she will bug you like Preston does about the Castle whenever you try to talk to her so it's best to just get the interview out of the way.
Curie and Dogmeat are the best companions tbh, they’re both adorable
Piper is my constant companion, she is the most effective one, and the best looking ;)
She is adorable. She is the only one who has a pet name for you. Blue? I just smile whenever she calls me blue

Well so far I have played Fallout 4 for a week, and Dogmeat and Curie are my top two favorite companions. One reason why I like Curie is that her French accent won me over.
You don't have to romance any companions to get their perks. You can choose to be 'best friends'. You can also arm and armor most of them, making them hardier and dealing more damage in combat. If you provide a better weapon you need to provide ammo as they will use it up.

You can save him with high Charisma. But his perk is blocked untill after that mission, so it's a hard one to get.

The difficulty I find with companions is that I started my first game with the Automaton DLC installed, and now I can't justify taking anyone but Ada with me since I started upgrading her. So my progression was Dogmeat - then Preston, then Ada. I hired Macready but sent him off to a settlement. Made friends with Piper but I leave her at her paper. Poor Codsworth never got to leave Sanctuary. Haven't gotten to the point of acquiring any others as companions yet.
